Sewing

I learned to sew in Vacation Bible School at my church when I was in 7th grade. I made my first pair of overalls and was on top of the world.  That began my love of sewing and all things crafty. Today I love working as a special education teacher. But my first love is teaching beginner and intermediate level sewing to kids and adults. I have two children (1 in college and 1 in 10th grade) and when I'm not working or sewing I help my husband at his sports training facility.

My Studio teaches children how to use math skills to sew.  All of our "leveled" projects are connected to national learning standards and offer a wide range of opportunities for all ability levels for kids 10 years old and up. Our local classes use a children's sewing curriculum, while our online classes use commercial patterns. Students learn hand and machine sewing, sewing vocabulary and techniques, and various equipment and safety usage. We host a small, friendly, relaxed setting which is what I find allows children to have the courage to explore, make mistakes, and discover their talents.

My Studio isn't just for kids! I welcome adults who are looking to learn to sew or enhance their current skills. Whether you are looking to create something to wear or something to beautify your home, we can teach you how to bring your ideas to reality. Our online and live classes utilize commercial patterns, sewing machines, and a variety of supplies based on projects being completed. We guide you every step of the way from selecting materials to recommending supplies. The only question you need to answer now is: SEW what"s next?

This introductory class will teach students 3 fundamental  stitches for hand sewing a variety of projects. The back stitch, whip stitch, and running stitch are some of the most popular stitches used by many makers. Students will use needles, threads, scissors, pins, a piece of felt, scrap fabric pieces, and their imagination to make a simple coaster.

Membership in the Guild gives you an opportunity to experience your love of any type of home sewing with others who share your interest.

This children's sewing curriculum in used in our local classes and is used for our "young designer" program. This 12 month curriculum culminates with a 'student showcase" and awards luncheon.

I have worked with a variety of churches and local kids groups to offer mobile arts and crafts activities and sewing lessons to small and mid sized groups. I select age appropriate projects based on the organizations goals and themes. Each student is given the opportunity to individualize their creations while learning basic sewing skills.

As a sewing instructor, I aim to give beginner and intermediate students the time, attention, and encouragement needed to complete their projects so that they have the best experience possible. My goal is to teach you at your individual pace and level so you are comfortable with your sewing materials and equipment. You will be introduced to the sewing supplies needed at your instructional level such as commercial patterns, sewing kits, sewing machines, and more.

Online students receive a introductory call to discuss project goals and materials needed prior to class.

Felicia is an great teacher. Her training room has everything you need and more. When I first started class, she greeted me with a smile that made me feel comfortable. Her knowledge and experience of sewing is remarkable. Great teacher and great class, if you dont take her class, you are missing out on a true talent.

The Instructor was excellent, knowledgeable, professional, friendly & acccomodating. Felicia went so far as to provide s crucial piece of equipment I was missing.

my instructor Felicia was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, patient & extremely helpful. I learned so much in the half hour class. She was able to improvise when I was missing an important component to my machine.  She truly is a genius. I scheduled another session at the conclusion of my 1st class, but find I must cancel due to physical problems. I am disabled with severe arthritis & her class is on the 3 rd floor. She carried my machine up for me & I made it up the stairs but when I got home later that evening  my knees were so swollen I had to ice them & take pain medication. I know I cannot do that again & will let my instructor know it is not het fault.

I enrolled my 11-year old daughter in Felicia's Saturday sewing class. Because the lesson is some distance from our house, I stuck around and observed the lessons. Felicia is unfailingly patient, kind and unhurried. She does not jump in and take over if something goes wrong; she teaches the child to cut, measure, stitch, etc. and expects the child to master and complete the task alone. Her classes are fun and my daughter has taken a real interest in sewing.
