Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.

Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. Teaching Philosophy -

My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment.
Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.

I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.

I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.

I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.

HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.

I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.

I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.

I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.

-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.

-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.

-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed

-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.

Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

Em's studio is family owned cafe with studio in finished basement with an office, recording equipment, and teaching space for acting and guitar.

Azuri is a fun teacher!

I love working with Azuri. He is patient and encourages me. Everytime I have a lesson he says something that opens my eyes. It usually just takes that one meaningful statement he says throughout the lesson for the time there to be worth it all. Moreover, he is a great teacher! It's very fun learning from him.

While attending the University of Southern California, where I received my M.F.A., I worked as a writing tutor in the USC Writing Center and also taught Classical Greek Mythology. After graduation, I taught Verbal, Writing and Literature SAT classes and worked as a private tutor in a variety of subjects.

I later taught for five years at the New York Film Academy in Universal City, CA, where I taught a variety of Critical Studies classes to various levels of students, some in certificate programs and others working towards their M.F.A.

As a former English and Spanish double major, I have always enjoyed teaching at various levels. Most of my other work these days involves the writing and editing of short stories, screenplays and novels.

Paul was my favorite teacher at the New York Film Academy.
Unlike most of the teachers, Mr. Paul put a lot of effort and creativity into planning his classes, which made them both stimulating and fun for us.
I also loved the fact that Mr. Paul always respected our opinions, and never made us feel stupid when we didn’t understand something. He was always very encouraging and willing to keep explaining until we got it.

I highly recommend him to anyone interested in extra lessons. He is definitely worth it!

Meet Gabrielle:

Musical History:

As a professional singer formerly signed to Sony Records and Cherrylane Publishing she has a few songwriting credits in movies, television, albums and video games. After starring in a reality show, releasing an album, touring with some of music's biggest names, walking the red carpet, and performing at the Billboard awards, she returned home to really find her sound after her music group disbanded.

Gabrielle has a deep passion for music and for teaching people how to excel in their musical gift. She also has an excellent ability to compose music and helped me with composing a melody for a song I had written. Gabrielle used to be apart of a musical group where many of her vocal skills and talents were showcased. My greatest passion is teaching. I love to help people learn and grow. My teaching style is always personalized to the learning style of my students, with a focus on helping them to experience lots of those epiphany/discovery moments (when the lightbulb goes on and knowledge becomes understanding) that deepen their own appetite to learn.

Although I have a degree from M.I.T., I’m far from your typical M.I.T. grad. I’ve been a news anchor, a radio disc jockey, a missionary, a pastor, a corporate trainer, a consultant, an executive officer, and a business entrepreneur. I would love to share as many of my experiences as can help you in your particular subject of interest.

Regarding Speech and Public Speaking, I've been a public speaker, teacher, and presenter to groups of three to three thousand for over twenty years, and have coach
ed students from five to sixty-five in how to confidently connect with people in a broad range of contexts, from very private to frighteningly public. But my lessons are about much more than saying the right things in front of people. Life is about relationships and all relationships start (and sadly often fail) with communication. Being a great conversationalist, story teller, or compelling public speaker is all about connecting with your audience, whether with one or one thousand. My goal is to help you learn to confidently listen, express yourself, and connect at a heart level. In our times together you'll learn things like:

• Organizing your thoughts in a way that resonates with your listeners
• Actively engaging with people and not just transferring information
• Turning fear and timidity into powerful tools for connecting
• Cultivating approachability and confidence with your audience

Regarding Math, some people are naturally good at math and some are like deer in the headlights. Studying Physics, Engineering, and Architecture at M.I.T. meant learning and doing *lots* of math. I find the greatest delight helping those who aren’t naturally good at math learn to appreciate and conquer it in the context of their regular, day to day lives. My greatest accomplishment in this respect has been teaching one of my daughters who hates math to embrace it as a wonderful, dependable, and mysterious, faith-building part of life. My approach is to make math real, that is, to connect math to life so that not just how to do it, but why doing it, is valuable and makes sense.

Regarding Art, I began drawing in three dimensions at the age of two (it was a stuffed panda bear doll if you must know). I am a keenly visual person, and began winning awards in art in elementary school, and eventually went on to become student artist of the year in New York state while a sophomore in high school. That same year I had a show in a gallery in Manhattan. The following year I made my own short animated film and was hired by a private academy to do all their creative print marketing. My approach to teaching art is similar to my approach to teaching communication. Sometimes art is about telling a story. Often it can be about making a point (even if that point is just about beauty or dysfunction, or beauty in dysfunction). But whatever its purpose, art is *always* about seeing, with more than your eyes. The best forms of art capture and captivate all of who we are and how we perceive, whether we’re talking pencil sketches or making movies. While I teach lots of different styles, techniques, and media (including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oil painting, graphic design, and print forms, among others), this fundamental how you perceive approach to the creative process is what I strive to teach when I teach art.

Regarding the Bible, I have been an exhaustive student and teacher of the Bible for 32 years and would welcome the opportunity to help you either learn it, teach it, or both (which is what often happens). Nothing that I have taught in my life is as important as the truths and life lessons I have learned and taught from its pages. It is scary and funny and crazy and tender (among many things) but most of all it is more than what most of us have heard (especially in church), and it will change us if we let it. Our studies would include language, history, culture, geography, and even science, combined with lots of thought provoking questions, and creative insight. We won’t shy away from the difficult topics that often cause doubt or division, but we will certainly avoid the canned, off-the-shelf answers that do more harm than good in helping people digest this book. This is not a safe class. If you already think you have a pretty good handle on the Bible, then this class is probably not for you. But if, like me, something about the profession and practice of Christianity around you seems terribly off, or missing, then this may be exactly what you’re looking for. Expect that much of what you thought or believed (but perhaps never really read or studied) will likely be challenged. This is not an academic study, but rather an upfront and personal interaction with The Truth.

First off, I am absolutely terrible at all things math related.
As in, two plus two equals five, sort of bad. Okay, maybe not that bad, but still... ;-) Mark helped make math easy and understandable for me, in a way that textbooks or even lectures (regardless of how "good" they might be) can't. Many people have head knowledge, and are labeled as a teacher because of their textbook understanding, but the real test for a good teacher is how to transfer that head knowledge to another person in an easy, understandable and fun way. Mark does all that and I believe more in everything he teaches. He has mastered how to reach every person on the level they're at and explain not only what they are trying to learn, but also the "why" behind it.

He is not just a one trick pony either. I've heard him speak on many occasions, and each time, regardless of what he's speaking about he sounds deeply passionate and thoughtful.

I also enjoy acting, (not necessarily as a career, but I have done a few productions here and there) and often times a character I will be representing will need an accent to distinguish it. Mark can pick up just about any accent and guide you into mastering it. The longest it has taken me to learn at least the basics of an accent under his guidance, has been two days. Now that doesn't mean everyone will have a perfectly mastered accent in that same time, but it does say something about his abilities as a teacher.

All this to say, I believe one of the best qualities of a truly great teacher is the ability to be a student, and be humble enough to learn themselves. I think the proof of this quality is very evident in Mark's varied abilities, and I would highly recommend him to many.

Mark​ has been my instructor for ​many years in a variety of subjects. He has a gift for helping people to not just have head knowledge, but practical, every day, what he would call heart knowledge. ​He is more than a teacher and his influence on who I am is greater than the lessons he taught me. It is important to him that one sees the big picture, even if it isn't always what we'd like it to be. He is passionate about ​using the talents God has given him to serve others. He explores the Scriptures diligently, as well as very thoroughly. It is more than a gift but I believe it is a huge purpose of his life to help others come to a more full knowledge of God and the relationship He desires to have with us.


I have also taken lessons from him in all of the other subjects he teaches and have found the same fundamental principles of his instruction methods/style to hold true. He loves to help people to really understand what they are learning in an applicable way. He knows how to adapt to his students' needs for optimal learning and growth. From visuals to stories and examples he always finds a way to make each lesson not only memorable but fun. I would highly recommend him as an instructor in any one of the lessons he offers.

I first met Mark over 20 years ago when he was a missionary in eastern Europe. We worked together on the mission field and I had opportunity to see first hand that he is indeed a man of many talents. Though Mark's primary job overseas was to teach and preach the Bible, I quickly realized that I had never before come across an individual with such talent and gifts in such a wide range of subjects. Mark is a true Renaissance man. Though he studied astrophysics at one of the world's most prestigious universities, namely MIT, he is also an incredibly gifted artist. He can paint, draw and write beautiful poetry just as easily as he can preach and teach powerfully and persuasively. He breaks any subject down into digestible parts, making it easy to understand. He is fun to listen to and learn from as he shares lots of stories and anecdotes that bring to life whatever subject he is teaching. And it never ceases to amaze me that he is equally gifted in math, which is my weakest subject and one I have greatly feared and avoided for the better part of my life. Yet when explaining any mathematical problem, he makes it seem so easy and doable. Mark is extremely intelligent and a quick learner and is able to master whatever subjects interest him. But it is his ability and passion to transfer his knowledge and skills to others in a fun and memorable way that is his greatest gift.

I am an artist, graduated from the Pennsylvania academy(PAFA) with a Bachelor in Fine art. My interest and concentration is in both Painting and Drafting. Moe is a good instructor, he has a lot of experience with teaching basics and intermediate topics in the fine arts. Not only is he familiar with traditional painting and techniques, but his practice itself is very innovative in inspiring you how to harness your own skills and seeing artmaking in your own way.

I believe that teaching technique is the first step teaching a student how to paint. By beginning with how to mix colors apply paint and basic drawing skills, this gives a student the opportunity to eventually paint all that their heart desires!

Of course, this will take patience practice and lots of guidance, however, I am here to provide support and inspiration and help you build confidence in your own abilities as you develop and grow.

As I demonstrate for my students different techniques that I employ in oil or acrylic painting (such as drybrush, wet-in-wet, blending, hard & soft and lost & found edges and so on,I have each student practice the technique on small work boards. It may help students to label the technique as they move along so that they can help remember when they look back at their sample board.

Our first session
is also spent getting to know our paint supplies, such as brushes, paint colors and palettes. Students also make a small color chart for future reference and to try out color mixing and learn about values.

Next, we make a painting! I usually choose a landscape image, and have a line drawing for them to transfer to their paper. We work together, step by step, to create fairly identical paintings. This gives me a chance to observe their technique and offer suggestions in a situation that I control. It is remarkable how different each painting will still turn out to be.

Between sessions, I do like to give homework for those who want to work at home, – usually just a reminder to practice the techniques—and I tell them to have fun with their paint and brushes. For others, painting once a week under my guidance is enough. We just want to have fun, learn, explore and paint!
