Getting Inspired to Learn French in Nashville
If you’re looking to take French lessons in Nashville, be sure to immerse yourself in hearing and reading the language - and learning about the French culture will help, too! Here are some local resources and events that will help you make the most of your French Lessons in Nashville.
- Alliance Française de Nashville (http://www.afnashville.org/index.aspx) The Alliance Française de Nashville is dedicated to increasing Nashville's appreciation and knowledge of the French language and culture. In addition to providing French language classes, they also host monthly cultural events. Some of these events include a “Cercle de Conversation”, which happens Saturday mornings and is open to all levels of French speakers. It gives everyone an opportunity to practice French in a supportive and welcoming environment. Additionally, Cercle de Lecture groups meet once a month to discuss a French book, Ciné-Club screens French movies, and Jeux de Société is French game night which gives you a chance to practice your French while having fun (and snacks!).
The Alliance Française de Nashville also hosts annual events such as Immersion Day, a French culture photo contest, and an annual Bastille Day celebration. Contact them for membership information and with any questions.

The Belcourt (http://www.belcourt.org/) The Belcourt is Nashville's nonprofit cinema, which strives to bring the best foreign, independent and classic films to Nashville. Open since 1925 (back when movies were silent), the Belcourt is now a great place to go see French films, attend musical events, and sit in on interviews with filmmakers and other experts in the film industry. While not everything at the Belcourt is devoted to French culture, there are many French events every year. Check their website or give them a call for details.

Belmont University (http://www.belmont.edu/languages/french.html) If you’re looking to supplement what you’re learning during your private French lessons in Nashville, consider registering for group classes at Belmont University. The university has an awesome language department, which includes majors and minors in French. Courses start at the elementary level and go all the way to advanced level courses. These courses are also enhanced by courses on the history of French language, civilization and literature. There's even a study abroad course and summer immersion courses. If you don't want to register as a formal student, you can also apply as a non-degree seeking student and only take courses in which you're interested.
