Learning American Sign Language (ASL) is a unique language experience. ASL is a visual language that encompasses the full body; one uses their hands to paint a picture in the air while presenting the story through their facial expressions and body movement. One particularly unique aspect of learning ASL is that a student has many opportunities to interact with native users of the language at Deaf and ASL socials frequently in one's hometown. My teaching method includes various ASL games that make learning fun and easy. Students will learn basic handshapes, then expand their vocabulary through interactive ASL game play. I also strongly encourage my students to attend Deaf socials outside of lesson hours in order to observe and participate in native ASL usage. About me: I am a graduating senior from CSUS majoring in Deaf Studies (ASL). I have studied ASL for over five years, and I've completed ASL 1-5. I have also taken specialized language courses including Linguistics of ASL, classifiers (or depicting verbs), and fingerspelling and numbers. I am currently studying ASL medical terminology. My studies encompass five years of ASL learning experience, 6 months of teaching experience to children and their parents, and one year of volunteer experience as the current President of the ASL Club at Sac State.
