Rob S.

Camarillo, CA

About Rob

Originally from Chicago, I attended Chicago Musical College for 2 years before moving to Calif. and receiving my B.A. in music from Cal. State Northridge. I also have an M.A. in Education from there. I have been a band director in public schools for over 40 years. My bands have won over 50 1st place awards in music competitions. I have been playing keyboard professionally since the age of 14. I truly enjoy working with both kids and adults on a one on one basis, and provide a relaxed and friendly, yet goal-oriented experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
In each lesson, students will work on te
chnique, music theory, and learn pieces (both from the method book and from supplementary material). I choose material for each student to use based on age, ability, and interest. I don't use a "one size fits all" curriculum. Although lessons are relaxed, I do expect students to do their part and work on the assigned materials at home. In addition,I enjoy playing along with students as soon as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Room: upright piano, chair, sports memorabilia, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide instrument (except piano) and music (which I would select)

*** Specialties ***
Can teach any school band instrument and keyboard

So kind and patient. My son is an expert at veering off course and Rob just kept him right back in the music lane. Brought him to the basics and my son loved the lesson! Thank you Rob!

I am coming right along in my lessons, making progress every week. It's due to Rob's approach, he's very easy to sit with and very easy going. He does a recital twice a year and I was very impressed with the rapport he has with his students and his program. Although I was very nervous about performing, it was the best thing I have done.

I took lessons with Steven for almost a year and I must say working with him has truly been a blast. I emailed Steven originally looking for help with my theory skills as well as both my acoustic and electric guitar playing and I have without a doubt gotten a hundred times better at all of the above. I have never been able to play a guitar solo before working with him and thought it would be months until I could even begin to think about that but right away he showed me the ropes and got me going. I was totally discouraged about my skill level because I’ve been wanting to major in music in college but started playing late in the game. However, Steven was nothing but encouraging through not only teaching me crucial musical skills but also sharing invaluable stories from when he was in music school leaving me nothing but inspired. Its often intimidating to meet a private instructor for the first time (I’ve met plenty of bad ones) but Steven is one of the nicest guys in the world and I can’t wait to continue lessons with him again once I have the time. Be sure to check out the Rivera Sunnarborg Duo live they are absolutely breathtaking! Have fun taking lessons and get ready for some nerdy music theory jokes!

Steve has given my son and daughter guitar lessons for years. They always look forward to seeing him and learning new music. He not only teaches them a great foundation in guitar he also teaches them whatever songs interest them. If my daughter wants to learn a piece from some obscure artist Steve finds the music and writes the music for her. He then helps her learn to play what she loves. We couldn't ask for a better teacher.

Jaclyn U.

Sherman Oaks, CA

About Jaclyn

I am passionate about guiding each student to explore his singing voice and full artistic expression in both Contemporary Commercial Music and Classical repertoire. Emphasis is placed on functional somatic voice work, and healthy vocal technique through successful breath support, effective vowel modification, and increased self-awareness and freedom in the body. I also incorporate Yoga principles of body awareness, breath training, as well as Andover Education and Alexander technique principles into my comprehensive vocal training style, as I believe kinesthetic body awareness is integral to
successful singing. In addition, I delight in engaging each student’s imagination and musicality so that they may express the composer’s intentions with their own authentic voice.
