MUSIC (see fitness below): Shannon has numerous years experience teaching all skill levels on woodwinds, and beginning-intermediate piano & classical strings, using various approaches to best suit the students learning style, personality and needs.

Shannon is an active musician, who has been featured as a soloist, and in the flute and woodwind sections with various orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera orchestras and musical theatre within the United States, Italy, and Mexico. She is presently Principal Flute of the Baytown Symphony, Director of the Da Capo Chamber Ensembles, and is a substitute musician with the Orquesta Sinfnica
de Monterrey, Symphony of Southeast Texas, and Opera in the Heights.

Shannon has been a faculty member at various colleges, is currently Adjunct Professor of Music at Brazosport College, and also has an active private studio, Leigh Studios. She is the College Music Society South-Central Regional President; and is an Advisory Board member for the Houston Flute Club.

Shannon received her Masters of Music degree in Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She also studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and received her B.A. degree in Performance, and B.S. degree in Music-Business from Winona State University, and has studied with world-renowned instructors.

Shannon has received grants for her work, from the Minnesota State Arts Board, American Federation of Musicians, Rome Festival Orchestra, and the Winona Music Guild, and was the 1997 recipient of the Vivian Menees Nelson Music Award.

Shannon is also a sponsored triathlete and trainer/coach/race director, and gives workshops on the importance of healthy living, nutrition and exercise for musicians. She is a board member for The Lake Charles Triathletes. And she is a strong advocate for music, health, and triathlon. I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). This is a 'Team Effort'; I give the guidance and tools. You practice, utilize learn these tools, and off we go! The sky is the limit!

I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Sa

I recommend Jenna to all levels of learners!

I knew nothing about playing the guitar before my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable right away and was able to help me learn quickly. She also helped me with my singing at the same time. She let me pick the music I was interested in and gave me tips on how to learn at home too. She is also very nice and patient.

I have been a band director in public schools for over 40 years. My bands have won over 50 1st place awards in music competitions. I have been playing keyboard professionally since the age of 14. My philosophy when it comes to doing anything with music is that it should be fun! Whether you're practicing a piece, playing with a band, writing something new, or even learning music theory, music is primarily about enjoying yourself and the others around you.

The best way to ensure that you enjoy yourself is to learn what you want to learn and play what you want to play. In addition to a standard curriculum, I want you to tell me what kind of music you're interested in and what kind of pieces you want to play! Do you love classic rock? Do you love pop? Blues? Jazz? Folk tunes? Opera? Or maybe you're a fan of the classical masters? Whatever the case may be, my number one goal is to make sure you're having fun while you develop your new talents.

I'm comfortable teaching students as young as 7 years of age, although I can teach even younger if they are especially well-behaved.

I really like working with Chris a lot for several reasons. First he is a very kind & enthusiastic teacher who is always very cheerful and always brings his best to the lessons. As an adult student, I'm not very confident about myself. He has helped to bring that confidence back. He was able to help me tackle the speed problem for a piece of music that I was having trouble with for a long time. And with just a few words of advice, he was able to help me fix the problem right away. Chris is truly a fantastic teacher! I'm glad to be his student.

I took piano lessons for a year when I was around 9 years old and because my instructor, who was my Dad, was a terrible teacher I hated it.

I am now over 70 years young and have been taking piano lessons from Christopher Cohen for two years. He has excellent teaching skills and is just a wonderful teacher and person. He is patient with me (a slower learner) and encourages me to choose special pieces I want to include in my lessons.

Because of Christopher excellent teaching skills I am now enjoying the piano and eagerly looking forward to each session. Even my dog appreciates the piano and she never misses any of our lessons.

I have always known I have had some kind of voice. I started doing lessons with Peter for not only vocals but also guitar. He has helped me explore the different ranges my voice can actually hit and how to add more emotion into a song. In one lesson just today, he made a song that i perfomed which sounded okay in the beginning of the lesson sound 10x better and to the very best of my ability by the end of the lesson. Every lesson is alot of help! He is great at understanding how to work with people whether it is vocally or trying to learn to play guitar - he uses great techniques for understanding and will work at the perfect pace appropriate for the student. He makes learning guitar and singing very fun. Highly reccomended!

I am Peter's father, so obviously this review will be a little biased. And, I have never taken a lesson from Peter, as I am not a musician and do not play an instrument. BUT, I can say this: Peter is hard-working, conscientious, and devoted to his profession. He is passionate about music and about teaching, and genuinely cares about each student. AND, he knows how to make learning fun! (Evidently he inherited that trait from his mom, who teaches English and Spanish). So, hire Peter! He's the best!

I found Peter to be very intelligent and very knowledgeable. Peter was great in not only classical styles of playing but also jazz which really kept me engaged! I especially liked the way he taught music theory alongside some of the standard learning points like scales and such. Overall I had a delightful experience with this teacher. If Peter ever moves back to my area I would love to take lessons with him again!

I have twenty-five years of Piano playing experience and have taught Piano privately for the past six years. I have studied in private lessons for over ten years, with different teachers. (I have also performed extensively in the past as an Electric Guitarist for jazz, big-band, funk and metal bands.)

My passion for teaching Piano led me on a 2-year long apprenticeship as a Piano Technician. The experiences from rebuilding and tuning real-life Pianos in a real-life shop were unforgettable, and still greatly assist me as a teacher of the Instrument today.

As a teacher of music (violin, voice, and choral) and a Classical singer, and colleague of Brent, I think the most important aspect of teaching is to take a personal approach with each student to see what "fits." Every student learns differently, and Brent recognizes that. He puts a tremendous amount of thought and creativity into the development of his students. Too many teachers today have a "cookie cutter" approach to teaching, and in my own experience, this turns students away from working on music later in their lives. Brent has the opposite approach, he is committed to developing the skills and love for Classical music simultaneously in the student, which has a more long-lasting affect on their schoolwork, concentration, character, and social life.

David is a very skilled drummer and a very enthusiastic teacher. In lessons, he seems to like to split time between practicing rudiments and learning to play different rhythms on the set. He is also exceptionally patient and supportive with my 9-year-old, highly distractible daughter. David is very positive, pointing out things that are going well and interesting rhythms that they discover. I am really glad we found David--he is an excellent teacher and I love watching my daughter learn so much about music!

My approach to music theory is that it should be learned by doing - being told what an Italian Sixth chord doesn't do you much good if you can't apply it in your own music. To that end, we'll spend time on close listening, sight-singing, dictation, rhythm games, etc., and minimal time with textbooks.

I am a composer, guitarist, arranger, engraver, and songwriter located in Brooklyn. I completed an M.M. in Composition at the Yale School of Music in 2014, and have taught extensively for the past eight years in a variety of settings. I currently teach guitar at Saint David's School in Manhattan, and taught private composition lessons and TA'd electronic music courses at Yale. I've also taught guitar and musicianship in public elementary and high schools in San Francisco and New Haven, as well as several music schools and my own private guitar studio.

My goal is to help students understanding the foundations of music. We will study everything from basic key signatures and chord progressions, to understanding how to apply that knowledge to pieces of music.

About Sophie
Sophie has been teaching piano lessons both privately and in a group setting since the summer of 2009. She is available to teach you either online, or at your home.

Sophie received her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Composition from the Manhattan School of Music in 2012, with a minor in Piano. Sophie is currently pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter.

Sophie looks forward to helping you reach your musical goals and understands that the approach to teaching is different for every student. With her classical background as well as jazz influences, Sophie looks forward to working hard with you while having fun. Some lesson topics might include: learning how to play a song YOU love, learning fun chord progressions, and understanding how to get better at playing piano.
