Introductions to basic guitar playing skills and development of the necessary skills to propel you toward becoming the guitar player you have always dreamed of being.

About Barry
I have over 30 years of experience teaching voice, working with choral groups, voice students as well as classroom music instruction. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Music Education as well as a Masters degree in music from an accredited school of music and have been performing both as a soloist and in vocal performance groups since I was a teenager. I bring to the vocal/music studio all of this experience as well as a heart to pass along this experience to others that desire to share the song that is in their heart. If it is your desire to sing, play the keyboard or guitar, please get in touch with me!

When a student gets started with me , wherever their interest lies, I work to discover where they are on their musical journey, discuss some goals they would like to set for themselves and put a teaching and lear
ning plan into motion.

For vocalists my primary goal is to assist anyone who is looking to improve the tonal quality and strength of their singing or speaking voice while reducing vocal tension and voice fatigue.

I facilitate singers of any level, age or style who seek to improve breath support, diction, range, tone quality, and ease of singing. This is achieved through a variety of singing exercises, fun vocal drills and creative singing games that we do in lesson time and with instruction on what to do at home.

For individuals seeking to develop basic musical understandings in theory, keyboard skills and guitar, I endeavor to start with were they are and take them to where they desire to be as a musician; opening up doors of music understanding and performance skills that help them on their musical journey.

Mostly I teach beginning and intermediate leaves. I teach a wide variety of music styles which adds greatly to the overall experience. I teach each student how to chord and how to read music. If the student would like to play by ear I can do that also. I teach many different styles of music. I supply a great method book if the student needs one. I use a song book that has a play-along CD with it. All the students love this type of method.

About Bruce
I received my degree from the University of Utah in instrumental music education. Along with specialized training in band and orchestra instruments, I also offer lessons in guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica in playing and performance. When a student has a song they want to learn, I focus lessons around the requested song. I also have an extensive library of songs that I utilize. My music methodology is built around a song book that also has a CD attached. This has proven to be a lot of fun for all my students. It makes practice time more fun as they "play along" with the CD.

*** Lesson Details ***
With folk instruments I start by teaching the student basic chords and basic chord sequences.
In the beginning I stress the proper hand position and I spend some time perfecting the best finger position. This eliminates a lot of pr
oblems that will come up later. For the first songs I teach them songs that use those same chords and chord sequences. Soon after that I teach them how to read music. This is vital to being able to play lead on any folk instrument. As the student progresses he or she is exposed to many different styles of music I also will teach several different picking and strumming patterns. .The student is also taught about more advanced chord progressions and music theory that can be used in any situation.

For brass instruments I teach techniques in developing breath control and embouchure development. Attention to these details will eliminate problems that could come up in the future. The student will learn how to read music from the start. As the student develops these basic techniques I begin working on tone development and breath support. As the student progresses he or she will be exposed to many different musical styles.
During the past two years I have been working for the Clark County School District as a Para Pro. I help students that need extra help to be more successful on their instrument.
I specialize in teaching the lower brass family. That is the Tuba, Trombone and the Baritone. I also train new teachers in the lower brass family if the new teachers has no experience when they first start out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room: Instruments, bookshelves, open space, additional seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can rent a guitar/banjo.
I can provide an amplifier.
I can provide PA and analog recording equipment.

*** Specialties ***

I specialize in providing a great foundation for learning the instrument. Too many students, new to the guitar, get frustrated and quit after just a few lessons, because it falls short of their expectations and they find they are not progressing. I make certain to keep the enthusiasm intact through the entire learning process by making sure the student is actually playing the instrument. I like to think of my method as "Fast Track to Playing Guitar"; my goal is to keep the student's interest in the instrument at a sustained level while they are grasping the fundamentals. Because I teach Voice as well, and have made a living accompanying myself on the guitar, I can combine those attributes for my students, if they desire to accompany themselves while singing. I find that many of my students really enjoy that option, and I have uncovered many a student who had never thought of themselves as a vocalist, singing and playing with astounding results... My success rate of having my students ...

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Be assured that all the technology I need to fulfill the educational needs of my students is but a step away!!

Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. Highly recommend!

I'm great with teaching you how to find the right chords by ear. We can learn notes as well as you should know both ways to learn songs.

About Jeff
Like many of my friends in high school not knowing what direction to take in life, I chose to take a business career path instead of one of a starving artist. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Cal State Fullerton, a Masters from UC Irvine, and have had much success working for several Fortune 500 companies. However, my love of music always surfaces. And now that I have the resources and ability to spend more time having fun and enjoying life, I choose to spend some of this time teaching and helping students find a love for music.

Music has always been an important part of my life. I've had piano lessons since 6 yrs of age and been the lead tenor in many show choir and vocal performing groups. Since 2005, I've been learning the guitar from many local Las Vegas artists ranging from lounge bands at Caesars Palace to orchestra players for t
he Cirque du Soleil.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a kid, I enjoyed playing piano but I felt that my piano lessons were more of a chore than a hobby, a routine of playing songs I did not particularly like. I make lessons fun by having my students choose the music/genre that they want to play. When they learn songs that they like, students are more engaged and interested. And because they are enjoying themselves, they develop their musical talents more quickly.

My lessons are fun but also challenging. I take you out of your comfort zone by recording lessons from time to time so that you’ll know what you sound like. I feel that the best music comes out when you play from the heart. I teach fundamentals and theory, but I encourage creativity. Each artist is unique and my job is to bring out that individual music style and give you a foundation to grow on.

From a business perspective, I’m organized, punctual, friendly, informative and easy to learn from.

Try me!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have contacts who can provide a full range of recording equipment and provide coaching assistance while recording in the studio. Your end product will be of higher quality for a lower price. We're professionals!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a guitar but would expect the student to have one or get one. I'll loan you one until you get one and I can provide some tips on where to shop.

*** Specialties ***
I enjoy R&B and jazz but can teach any style

ACADEMICS
I started out on take lessons as a music instructor, but I also teach a wide variety of academics. I do have an MBA so I can coach you well and help you ace those exams. Like my music lessons, practice makes perfect. So you'll need to study and "earn" those A+ grades.

I perform six nights a week in Las Vegas and have used what I have learned through performance to inspire countless students.

After our first lesson, I will then develop a plan, including exercises, songs, and a sample practice schedule that will get you where you want to be if you put in the time and effort!

Lessons will be typically broken into sections of harmony, technique and tune learning. Although, this is flexible, depending on the student.

I understand that every student learns differently and has different interests.

Having taught hundreds of students, all from different backgrounds and age ranges, I have the experience and ability to custom-tailor lessons to your needs.

About Nick
About Nick:

He is a full-time professional musician who has taught hundreds of students how to play. You can see him play six nights a week at The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino, performing guitar duties in the new hit show: World's Greatest Rock Show!

Nick has also transcribed over a dozen books for the Hal Leonard Publishing Co.

He has spent time as a private guitar and bass instructor at an accredited Conservatory of Music, two music stores, three private schools, as well as in his own private studio before relocating to Las Vegas to pursue more playing opportunities!

His playing experience includes, but is not limited to: original funk/rock/fusion groups, jazz ensembles, metal bands, improv bands, and various cover/tribute bands.

His performance experience has found him entertaining on large festival stages throughout t
he midwest, as well as intimate club and casino gigs, private parties, corporate events and weddings.

Nick has been teaching private lessons and masterclasses since 2004. He has a extensive experience teaching all styles of electric and acoustic guitar, including extended range instruments. Additionally, he teaches bass, improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and advanced techniques.

During your lessons you will work on anything from absolute basics, your favorite songs, reading notes, music theory and ear training to technique, improvisation, composition and anything in-between! And you will be learning in ways that are fun to play, sound good and can be applied immediately to your current playing!

Stop waiting! It's time to begin or extend your guitar knowledge and get you achieving that sound you're looking for!

Although an occasional book may be recommended, and any book you already have can be used, all other lesson materials will be provided (sheet music, charts, scale info, jam tracks, etc.) by your instructor!

I do not teach guitar for readers or cover artists. If you want to learn how to find your own style and build on what is unique and valuable in what you play, I can help you.

I typically can't offer much to an already advanced player as they've already acquired and embedded habits I will train less experienced players to either avoid or incorporate from a creative rather than copy-cat methodology.

Students will be taught "Expressive Practicing", a technique emphasizing skills earned through inspired playing. This is a highly individualized method based on the students instinctive capabilities such as having an natural "ear". Fundamentals are taught as applied through a run-before-you-walk set of exercises and structured improvisation techniques.

About Richard
I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love.

Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Professional, and find great reward in sharing my experience and knowledge with my students.

When the "aha" light goes on, it's truly a wonderful moment for me, and encourages me to drive my students to build towards more of those moments as students, and then ultimately, for themselves as they learn to grow for themselves.

Playing and teaching the guitar is my life's biggest passion. I began playing guitar in highschool in a rock band, and fell in love with the instrument. Since then I decided to major in music, became obsessed with classical guitar, and now I'm teaching classical guitar at UNLV while pursuing a doctorate of music there.

I teach all styles though, and I aim to help my students reach whatever goals with music they may have. I also have a good knowledge of music theory, something that's helpful in all musical endeavors. I'm also very good for beginners, as I can ensure no technical bad habits are developed.

About Michael
I moved to Las Vegas in August to pursue a doctorate of music in guitar performance. I'm also teaching at UNLV part time, and want to expand my teaching into the local community. I've been teaching for many years now, at universities, music stores and private in-home lessons like I'm offering on this site.

I aim to give my students the skills to pursue whatever they would like on the guitar. I'm a professional classical guitarist, but I got my start playing rock and roll and am comfortable teaching a variety of genres if the student wants to learn a specific style. I feel I am a great teacher for total beginners as well, I make sure the student has a rounded approach and avoids developing bad habits.

About J. Pablo
Pablo possesses a natural talent for music and is also academically accomplished. I believe Pablo was prepared for each lesson and his compassion for this subject was very high.
I've had a couple different private teachers prior to Pablo, but Pablo was the only teacher that excelled at improvisation and had a more methodical approach to musical performance. The first few lessons consisted of learning theory and how the music scales are related to each other. As the lessons evolve, we use that knowledge to start improvising. Even though I play guitar as hobby, Pablo gives me the motivation to get better as a guitar player. I hold him in the highest regard, and I would rate Pablo as an excellent teacher.

Based upon his knowledge and ability to play guitar, I believe he would be one of the best teachers to take lessons from.

Sincerely,

Al

To potential Guitar students and parents.
Pablo is the guitar teacher for my son. He makes learning very enjoyable. He teaches in such a comfortable way that you don't realize you are studying. He teaches all the basics and theory with the song of your choice. He has a very pleasant and patient personality. He gives the students confidence with lots of praise and affirmation. He loves music and guitar and he passes that on to his students. I highly recommend this talented teacher. June B.

Pablo is a fantastic teacher who helped me push through the barriers taking me from a beginning guitarist to intermediate and beyond. He teaches in a very clear and direct style, touching on all the things that makes someone a well rounded guitar player, chords, leads, improvising, theory, tempo and creativity.

My lessons with Pablo weren't just guitar lessons, but music lessons, as he broke down music theory and how it relates to writing your own song, or improvising with a group. He does this in a way that's practical for guitarists, with mental shortcuts and tip that can only come from a seasoned guitarist / songwriter / all around good dude. Clyde B.

My guitar lessons and classes are taught by a certified Musicians Institute graduate. I've had close to 10 years experience teaching lessons with kids and adults aged 5 and up. I've coordinated a number of after school guitar programs for kids in the past and still run a Y-Kids guitar program at the YMCA. I teach based on what the students want to learn to play while also covering music theory so you're enjoying while you learn!! I have had a lot of experience not only teaching but playing in bands, doing studio guitar sessions, playing gigs, and just working in the music industry.

About Kevin
Hello, my name is Kevin Balzano. I'm a Musicians Institute graduate class of 2010. Since graduating I've spent the last 7+ years teaching lessons and also coordinating after school guitar programs for companies such as Family Focus, Children's Choice, and I still run a Y-Kids guitar program for the YMCA of Southern Nevada. I've had lots of studio experience, session guitar work, and of course still play in bands that do gigs. I teach based on what musical style students want to learn while also implying music theory to help strengthen their knowledge.. I love teaching and playing music and it definitely shows in my lessons. I can cover all music styles from classical to shred metal and all ability levels from beginning to advanced. I'm always excited to get new students and hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
