About Mark
Most recently, Mark's drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror.'

In addition to being a full-time working drummer, Mark is guiding veteran and up & coming drummers with their musical careers both privately and at Nevada Music Academy (March 2014 to present).

Mark is currently accepting serious-minded adult students for in-home or online lessons. Drum set students are required to have access to a drum set; snare drum students are required to have a snare drum or practice pad.

*****BACKGROUND*****

With inspiration from a music-infused household, Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, shortly after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a few short years he was performing with various school bands (stage, jazz, orchestra, marching) and o
riginal rock bands formed with musicians from the local music scene.

Mark studied classical and rudimental snare drum performance at the Murray Spivack School for Snare Drum and funk, jazz, rock and Latin drumming under the tutelage of Irv Kluger, Chuck Silverman and Richie “Gajate” Garcia.

Mark’s first big break came in 1986 when he toured with the legendary Hollywood based hard-rock band Masque, which included the famous circuit clubs in Los Angeles supporting such artists as Warrant and Poison. Shortly after, Mark spent two years performing and recording with MTV favorites D.R. Starr and the M.D.’s, securing his place as one of Los Angeles’ “go to” drummers.

Drum lessons with Mark are informative, results-driven and loud at times! “Together, you and I will develop an ‘Individualized Learning Program’ designed just for you,” says Mark. “We’ll work at your level and at your pace – and we’ll have fun doing it!” Mark has been working successfully with students as young as 5 years of age. Beginning students will be playing basic drum beats during their first lesson and playing along to songs within several lessons. Experienced students will further develop reading chops, grooves, fills and rudiments.

To date, Mark has recorded and performed with numerous rock acts and is active in the local music scene. In addition, Mark is a two-time Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame inductee.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

About Michelle
I am a 22 yr old student at the College of Southern Nevada who is currently working toward a degree in music; while still making time to play in a band. I was in High School When I bought my first guitar and developed a passion for music. For me music opened the door to a new lifestyle and ultimately led me to begin teaching and sharing music with others. I have taught a variety of ages, ranging from children to adults. For beginner guitarists, I believe there can be just as much joy and fun as there can be practice. I strive to make everything simple while important skills are learned. I am a patient and committed teacher who can show you these skills that will help to make you a well-rounded musician.

***Lesson Details***
Each lesson will consist of a unique and personalized curriculum to fit the student’s needs. This will be done a
t a pace that allows for confidence to be built and a complete understanding of the material. Each student is taught the basic skills of guitar so that they can become an independent and self-sufficient musician with a strong fundamental foundation. Crucial skills such as reading music, scales, various chords, and more will be taught in each lesson. Each lesson will be just as enjoyable as it is informative. After all, “pleasure in a job puts perfection in the work”. That is why I ask each Student to bring a song or piece that he/she enjoys working on. Overtime, all the skills learned will allow students to play with confidence!

***Studio Equipment***
Students will be provided all handouts and paper material. Books, guitars, and amps are available to use during each lesson. Over time it is recommended that you work on acquiring your own equipment as well.

Michelle is here to teach me what I need to learn and not just what I want to learn like to learn. Some teachers just want to make a quick buck and show me a song without basics...it slowed me down even more. So I am very happy to have chosen a female and a knowledgeable one with lots of patience.

About Chau
My name is Chau and I am a transplant from Australia who has resided in Las Vegas for the last 10 years. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Western Sydney and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, majoring in vocal performance and music technology. I am a wife to the best husband and a mother to three fabulous girls. I've been teaching voice for over 15 years and have loved every minute of it because I truly care about my craft and more importantly, my students and their creative goals. I was a Music Specialist at Merryhill School in Las Vegas, teaching K-8th Grade, until I became pregnant with my middle child. I've also worked in church worship teams for the past 15 years, both in Australia (Sydney and Brisbane) and Las Vegas, Nevada. My faith dictates the way I live my life and as a young child, my dad taught me to alwa
ys strive for excellence in all that I do. This mentality has undoubtedly motivated my teaching career. My students can count on a teacher who is prepared and creative in developing a learning experience that will exponentially €œgrow€ them in their creative field.
I inherited my love for singing from my Mum -- as a child I watched her perform and wished that I could one day do the same. At the age of 15, after auditioning, I was selected to be a part of the New South Wales Senior (High School) State Choir and as a result, I toured the USA in 1999 representing the Australian Embassy in the United States. This was around the same time that I caught €œthe bug€ and decided to pursue music as a career. I then went on to study music, first briefly at the Music Conservatorium in Sydney and then finishing my Bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Western Sydney. I was first classically trained vocally and with that background, moved onto more contemporary vocal styles. After marrying my husband, I moved to Las Vegas and began to study Counseling/Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Music and Counseling, to me, made the perfect marriage as I love music and love people equally. Needless to say, teaching music and helping people has made my life very fulfilling.

I will provide students with the necessary materials needed for instruction for e.g. Books, CDs, DVDs...etc

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in vocal techniques, and diaphragm/breathing techniques.
As far as style or genre are concerned, I use both, my experience in classical voice training and contemporary voice training, to keep my students engaged in their craft. I listen well to my student's needs and meet them where they are at, ensuring that I meet their creative goals and not my own.

Chau has been a great instructor for me. When I was searching for a vocal coach, I took into consideration not only their credentials and experience but their ego or lack there of. Chau has fulfilled all my expectations that I wanted from a vocal coach. She really cares about her craft, her students and their progress. She's down-to-earth and is a positive energy to be around.

Chau has been a great match for me. She tells me how it is. She knows when to give me encouragement and when to kick me in the butt. She's strict in a good way. She notices little details and teaches me how to develop my own vocal awareness so I can start to notice mistakes myself when I practice on my own. She demonstrates special techniques that have been instrumental to my progress. I am thankful for her support and expertise, and for being a part of my journey to make my dream come true to learn to sing at last. ^_^

Even if you're a total beginner or experienced singer, you're in great hands!! ^_^

She's motivated and really works towards getting you to your goal. I really appreciate all she does for her students :)

About Richard
I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love.

Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Professional, and find great reward in sharing my experience and knowledge with my students.

When the "aha" light goes on, it's truly a wonderful moment for me, and encourages me to drive my students to build towards more of those moments as students, and then ultimately, for themselves as they learn to grow for themselves.

About Michael
I moved to Las Vegas in August to pursue a doctorate of music in guitar performance. I'm also teaching at UNLV part time, and want to expand my teaching into the local community. I've been teaching for many years now, at universities, music stores and private in-home lessons like I'm offering on this site.

I aim to give my students the skills to pursue whatever they would like on the guitar. I'm a professional classical guitarist, but I got my start playing rock and roll and am comfortable teaching a variety of genres if the student wants to learn a specific style. I feel I am a great teacher for total beginners as well, I make sure the student has a rounded approach and avoids developing bad habits.

I met fellow classical guitarist, Michael, a few years back. I remembered him for his fun personality, stellar performance, and friendliness. Now that he is my classmate, I've gotten to know him better as a person and guitar player. I can say he is same in personality and friendliness as when I met him a few years ago, and his performances ROCK!

I sat in on every lesson Michael gave my daughter, who had not studied guitar before. He uses the time effectively, balancing sight reading, repertoire development, music theory (which he presents in very practical and immediately useful ways), and at all times instilling the technique necessary to sustain rapid progress. My daughter really enjoyed studying with him, and I really enjoyed watching her go from a blank slate to a guitarist you want to listen to. I completely and unreservedly endorse this teacher.

Rob Cournoyer. Where to begin... I was 17 years old when I had started taking lessons from Rob. It was my senior year of high school and after hitting a wall after years of being self-taught, began studying at Hoffman's Music in Houma (my hometown) with a man named Troy Percle. After awhile, Troy told me that if I wanted to go to Berklee, I should look up this guy, who had just begun teaching in Houma. So, I did and from lesson number one, I learned so much. New concepts, new methods, new ideas. But also, Rob was gracious enough to share his worldly experiences with me, a teenager with dreams of grandeur, and through his teaching, helped me to be prepared for the reality that comes with being a working musician. It is work, it will be hard. But it is what you love. Like Tony Williams once said,"We play because we must." Rob is the embodiment of that statement. Long story short, Rob helped me prepare an audition piece for my Berklee scholarship audition and sure enough, they offered me a substantial amount of money to attend their school, which I had been dreaming of going to since I was 12 years old. He helped a big dream of mine come true. I studied with him until I moved out of Houma and up to Boston. Today, I am a working drummer in Nashville and can honestly say that one of the true highlights of my education, was having Rob as a teacher. Not only of drumming, but of life. You would be doing yourself a tremendous service to have Rob Cournoyer be your teacher. Thank you, Rob. I am happy to be able to call him a former teacher and a present friend.

Rob, has been instructing our 11 year old son for the past couple of years. He is easily the best music instructor I have seen. His passion for music and drums keeps our son excited about his lessons. He teaches in a fun but organized approach that does not overwhelm our son. Our son's improvement after every lesson is very noticeable. I recommend Rob unconditionally. Our son also highly recommends Rob.

Rob has been teaching drums to my 14 year old son for about 2 years. He is an incredible teacher and it is amazing how far along my son has come since he started working with him. Rob has a friendly and easy going personality that allows kids to feel comfortable with him. My son has been playing drums for about 5 years and since he started with Rob his drumming ability has gone to a whole new level. Rob has taught my son many different styles including rock, blues, jazz, samba and so much more. Rob is a very talented drummer, a great teacher and just an all around great guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking for lessons.

I’ve been an active musician for over 40 years. I performed in rock bands from middle school through high school until I started my training at Berklee. After graduating with a degree in composition, I resumed touring with rock and pop bands until my early thirties. For the next ten years I taught privately and released 5 recordings of art music that received enthusiastic reviews both in the USA and in Europe. Three of these recordings were electronic and microtonal in nature, and two were solo piano recordings. Also during this time I became a certified teacher in the State of Connecticut.

After this phase of my life, I took a position as head of the music department at Proctor Academy in Andover, NH. I ran every aspect of the department for 5 years before leaving to focus on my studies in film score music. After completing an 18-month
course with Music for the Media (London) I opened a studio in New Hampshire at the granite Media Center and scored 15 TV episodes and 7 films before moving to Los Angeles for additional opportunities. I’m currently living in Las Vegas, still playing and composing, and still loving the music!
