About Mark
Most recently, Mark's drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror.'

In addition to being a full-time working drummer, Mark is guiding veteran and up & coming drummers with their musical careers both privately and at Nevada Music Academy (March 2014 to present).

Mark is currently accepting serious-minded adult students for in-home or online lessons. Drum set students are required to have access to a drum set; snare drum students are required to have a snare drum or practice pad.

*****BACKGROUND*****

With inspiration from a music-infused household, Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, shortly after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a few short years he was performing with various school bands (stage, jazz, orchestra, marching) and o
riginal rock bands formed with musicians from the local music scene.

Mark studied classical and rudimental snare drum performance at the Murray Spivack School for Snare Drum and funk, jazz, rock and Latin drumming under the tutelage of Irv Kluger, Chuck Silverman and Richie “Gajate” Garcia.

Mark’s first big break came in 1986 when he toured with the legendary Hollywood based hard-rock band Masque, which included the famous circuit clubs in Los Angeles supporting such artists as Warrant and Poison. Shortly after, Mark spent two years performing and recording with MTV favorites D.R. Starr and the M.D.’s, securing his place as one of Los Angeles’ “go to” drummers.

Drum lessons with Mark are informative, results-driven and loud at times! “Together, you and I will develop an ‘Individualized Learning Program’ designed just for you,” says Mark. “We’ll work at your level and at your pace – and we’ll have fun doing it!” Mark has been working successfully with students as young as 5 years of age. Beginning students will be playing basic drum beats during their first lesson and playing along to songs within several lessons. Experienced students will further develop reading chops, grooves, fills and rudiments.

To date, Mark has recorded and performed with numerous rock acts and is active in the local music scene. In addition, Mark is a two-time Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame inductee.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

About Mark
I NOW TEACH ONLINE LESSONS. I teach according to your individual needs. I only teach in my own studio. I do not travel anymore. I also have time to teach lessons every other week. You may inquire to me about my availability to teach every other week on Saturdays. I help you become successful on piano, violin, cello, viola, bass, guitar, or bass guitar. I help you learn the instrument and learn to read music with my own ideas using fun worksheets and songs you really like to learn how to play. I fill your voids with activities such as practice techniques, sub-lessons, and ear training. I guide you toward proper posture, tone development, and the ability to keep a steady beat. I help you develop your musical independence by tweaking lessons to help you succeed. I help you have fun learning to read music for your instrument using my materia
ls. I believe talent is not a factor in learning. Mastering an instrument is the result of effective instruction and step by step guidance toward foundations and skills. I love to teach private lessons because I believe in spreading the word to make the great gift of playing music available to many. It is an inherited right and gift to enjoy a lifetime of personal satisfaction from playing a musical instrument. I love to help students build confidence and make progress. I help them problem solve by going through problems with them. I teach "how to think" and how to become a life long learner of the instrument. I love the challenge of finding ways to help students become successful at every step of the way. I am excited and enthused to be apart of student progress. I am influenced by many 20th Century performers including Van Cliburn, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Yudi Menuhin, Issac Stern, Dave Brubeck, and Horowitz among others. I am passionate in my teaching about providing an effective solution to my student's needs. I am pleased to announce my teaching has awarded a cello student a spot at Del Sol music high school for the 2017-2018 school year. this student of mine passed an audition January of 2017 as a result of my teaching. The student worked very hard and followed my instruction very well. Congratulations!! I am also pleased to announce two of my cello students have both passed auditions to play in the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra starting in September 2017 and September 2018. They both auditioned during May 2017 and May 2018. Congratulations to both of you!!! I also had a violin student who passed auditions for LVA (Las Vegas Academy) a couple of years ago. I have no connection to these organizations. These students all worked hard and followed my instruction. I can help you learn as well. Recently with the development of "octave" strings, if you have been split between learning violin, viola, or cello; these strings installed on a violin or viola make the instrument sound like a cello. It is really something. They are tuned an octave below, so they sound very low. A lot of cello music will have to be transcribed for owners of these instruments installed with "octave" strings. Videos can be found on YOU TUBE of these instruments played. They are ordinary violins or violas strung up with thicker strings to sound an octave below.

I am a professional educator who works with both children and adults, and has the patience to help them. I am a performer who has over 30 years of public experience in solo playing as well as ensemble work. I have performed at Nordstrom for nine years, and performed at many private functions. I have performed classical as well as jazz music as part as my performance experience. I have taught private lessons for well over 17 years. I'm sorry, as of Summer 2016 I do not travel to student locations. I teach at my studio as well as online. If you are among the many parents who home-school your children, you should consider music lessons for them. There are many benefits of home-schooling, but unfortunately students miss out on specials. Practicing an instrument can make up for that and also teach critical learning habits and personal skills toward learning in general.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in personalizing your approach to the strangeness of the instrument. You need to learn much about posture, and proper tone production within the first year. Method books are not "how to" books. You need a teacher to guide you toward becoming familiar with the instrument. You also need to learn how to listen to the sounds you make as you play. To develop "musical independence" you need to become musically literate, develop tone production skills, and internalize a steady beat. Rhythm and tone are basic concepts that must be mastered to maximize pleasure in playing your instrument. Learning how to problem solve is another skill I teach so you can help yourself toward progress.
I believe in using the instrument in daily activities such as playing "Happy Birthday" at family get together. Christmas Songs or Hanukkah Songs can bring much joy during December family parties.
A musician in the house brings much joy during holidays and celebrations; and the families are brought closer together. Memories are created and last forever. Playing an instrument is exciting and expresses what can not be said using words. I believe in teaching students based on their strengths, and building upon them. I am excited to help you learn!!

I only teach in my own studio and online. I do not travel anymore.

You can advance quickly if you are taught to listen to yourself and follow my instruction. I will guide you every step of the way to understand how music making works. Music lessons are fun and enjoyable. I am pleased to guide you through your learning every step of the way. My students in Las Vegas have had much success with my teaching and guidance. I will succeed where others fail. You will reap the benefits of my professional instruction. I bring a wealth of teaching experience, teacher training, and professional playing experience to every lesson. Most music store studio instructors have very little or no teacher training. Playing experience does not make one a helpful teacher. Failure to learn "how to" teach along with not earning any teaching credentials will not make a satisfying music instructor.

I have taken several lessons with Mark and I think he is an outstanding cello and music teacher. Mark has a substantial knowledge of cello, music and other instruments and his method of teaching is so great that it has make me feel that even with the crazy busy life that I have I can tackle the cello and I will have a good measure of success at my own pace in the future. He is incredibly patient, encouraging and good natured while totally engaged in getting you further in learning music and the cello in this case. He has sent information every week of relevant material to be covered in the next class which is very helpful and he adapts very well to your own style, whether you want to start playing right away or you prefer more emphasis in music notation, etc. He makes himself easily available to answer any questions or to discuss changes in schedule and to top It off he is a really nice person. I would recommend Mark heartily and enthusiastically to anyone who wants to learn cello of any musical instrument he teaches.

Cyndi's training began at age 8 where she studied classical piano for 6 years. By age 15, she and her brother released their first independent single which did reasonably well locally. By age 19, while studying music at Ohio University, she along with her brother won "Right On" magazine's nationwide talent search and were offered two major recording contracts. She decided to sign with Philadelphia International Records under the auspices of Grammy Award winning producer, Thom Bell (who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). She also studied vocal production under legendary Grammy Award winning producer, Hal Davis (Jackson five fame). Cyndi was taught proper vocal technique by vocal trainer to the stars, Seth Riggs and continued her private studies learning the vocal techniques of the great Alan Linquist. Her teaching style has subsequently morphed into a combination of all these great inspirational instructors.

As a teacher, Cyndi is kind, patient and extremely enthusiastic when it comes to instructing her students. Her students always see her as their friend and one who they know will bring out the best in them and desires that they grow to their fullest potential.

I received my degree from the University of Utah in instrumental music education. Along with specialized training in band and orchestra instruments, I also offer lessons in guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica in playing and performance. When a student has a song they want to learn, I focus lessons around the requested song. I also have an extensive library of songs that I utilize. My music methodology is built around a song book that also has a CD attached. This has proven to be a lot of fun for all my students. It makes practice time more fun as they "play along" with the CD.

*** Lesson Details ***
With folk instruments I start by teaching the student basic chords and basic chord sequences.
In the beginning I stress the proper hand position and I spend some time perfecting the best finger position. This eliminates a lot of pr
oblems that will come up later. For the first songs I teach them songs that use those same chords and chord sequences. Soon after that I teach them how to read music. This is vital to being able to play lead on any folk instrument. As the student progresses he or she is exposed to many different styles of music I also will teach several different picking and strumming patterns. .The student is also taught about more advanced chord progressions and music theory that can be used in any situation.

For brass instruments I teach techniques in developing breath control and embouchure development. Attention to these details will eliminate problems that could come up in the future. The student will learn how to read music from the start. As the student develops these basic techniques I begin working on tone development and breath support. As the student progresses he or she will be exposed to many different musical styles.
During the past two years I have been working for the Clark County School District as a Para Pro. I help students that need extra help to be more successful on their instrument.
I specialize in teaching the lower brass family. That is the Tuba, Trombone and the Baritone. I also train new teachers in the lower brass family if the new teachers has no experience when they first start out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room: Instruments, bookshelves, open space, additional seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can rent a guitar/banjo.
I can provide an amplifier.
I can provide PA and analog recording equipment.

At age nine I began piano and clarinet lessons and continued my music studies throughout high school and into college. I played in numerous solo and ensemble festivals, honor bands, piano recitals, adjudicated piano and soloist competitions, scholarship competitions and numerous concerts. I learned at a very young age that enthusiasm and creativity expressed by my teachers played an integral role in my motivation to succeed. My experience playing in band, orchestra, ensembles and as a soloist, gives me an enhanced ability to convey lessons in harmony either played between hands or in duets/ensembles.
Because I also have a strong background in ballet and ballroom dance, I utilize these talents to reinforce time signature and rhythm lessons. It's amazing to see how my students transfer the rhythm from their feet to their fingertips accurat
ely. This method also helps them visualize and interpret the music in a more satisfying manner.
Music is the centrifugal force in my life which I joyfully extend to my family and students. I am the proud mother of four children who grew up in a musical home; three of them are proficient, award-winning pianists. My students are also award-winning competitors in the Lisa Fiorenza Junior Piano Competition, Las Vegas, NV.
I have enjoyed teaching piano students ranging in age from 3 to 80 years old. Let's Make A Joyful Noise Together!

About Chau
My name is Chau and I am a transplant from Australia who has resided in Las Vegas for the last 15 years. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Western Sydney and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, majoring in vocal performance and music technology. I am a wife to my husband and a mother to our four children. I've been teaching voice for over 18 years and have loved every minute of it because I truly care about my craft and more importantly, my students and their creative goals. I was a Music Specialist at Merryhill School in Las Vegas, teaching K-8th Grade, until I became pregnant with my second child. I've also worked in church worship teams for the past 20 years, both in Australia (Sydney and Brisbane) and Las Vegas, Nevada. My faith dictates the way I live my life and as a young child, my dad taught me to always strive
for excellence in all that I do. This mentality has undoubtedly motivated my teaching career. My students can count on a teacher who is prepared and creative in developing a learning experience that will exponentially €œgrow€ them in their creative field.
I inherited my love for singing from my Mum -- as a child I watched her perform and wished that I could one day do the same. At the age of 16, after auditioning, I was selected to be a part of the New South Wales Senior (High School) State Choir and as a result, I toured the USA in 1999 representing the Australian Embassy in the United States. This was around the same time that I caught €œthe bug€ and decided to pursue music as a career. I then went on to study music, first briefly at the Music Conservatorium in Sydney and then finishing my Bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Western Sydney. I was first classically trained vocally and with that background, moved onto more contemporary vocal styles. After marrying my husband, I moved to Las Vegas and began to study Counseling/Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Music and Counseling, to me, made the perfect marriage as I love music and love people equally. Needless to say, teaching music and helping people has made my life very fulfilling.

I have taken lessons from Cindy for two years now. She is great with getting rid of my bad habbits and wrong techniques that my previous teacher did not care to correct. I appreciate her patience and effort very much. I noticed all her other students play very well in recital as well. I only wish I had her as my piano teacher many years earlier.

About Nick:

He is a full-time professional musician who has taught hundreds of students how to play. You can see him play five nights a week at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas!

Nick has also transcribed over a dozen books for the Hal Leonard Publishing Co.

He has spent time as a private guitar and bass instructor at an accredited Conservatory of Music, two music stores, three private schools, as well as in his own private studio before relocating to Las Vegas to pursue more playing opportunities!

His playing experience includes, but is not limited to: original funk/rock/fusion groups, jazz ensembles, metal bands, improv bands, and various cover/tribute bands.

His performance experience has found him entertaining on large festival stages throughout the midwest, as well as intimate club and casino gigs, private
parties, corporate events and weddings.

Nick has been teaching private lessons and masterclasses since 2004. He has a extensive experience teaching all styles of electric and acoustic guitar, including extended range instruments. Additionally, he teaches bass, improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and advanced techniques.

During your lessons you will work on anything from absolute basics, your favorite songs, reading notes, music theory and ear training to technique, improvisation, composition and anything in-between! And you will be learning in ways that are fun to play, sound good and can be applied immediately to your current playing!

Stop waiting! It's time to begin or extend your guitar knowledge and get you achieving that sound you're looking for!

Although an occasional book may be recommended, and any book you already have can be used, all other lesson materials will be provided (sheet music, charts, scale info, jam tracks, etc.) by your instructor!

About Akiko
Hello! I have been playing the piano ever since I was 6 year's old, and have been teaching piano over 15 years. I began teaching piano when I was working on my Bachelor's Degree in Music and also taught vocal music at a local elementary school. After receiving a B.A. and a teaching license, I have taught vocal music at elementary schools and choir at both middle and high schools. Because of this extensive teaching experience at schools, I am good with young children and teens.

Even as a pianist, I strongly believe that ear training and solfege singing play a big role in learning to play piano. In addition to teaching playing technique and artistry, my lessons include music theory, ear training, sight-reading and solfege singing. I specialize in classical music.

I homeschool my daughter, so I am available during the day to especi
ally teach homeschool children and their families. I am fun, organized, very patient, and I am an excellent teacher. I can't wait to hear from you!

After only a couple months with Ms Graves, my two teen-aged daughters are successfully playing the piano by actually reading the music! Ms. Graves guides the music choices based on the studen’s interest and the relatively quick success motivates the girls to practice on their own. We couldn’t be happier with our choice in piano instructors. Ms. Graves is encouraging and patient.
