Eric B.

Port Orange, FL

About Eric

Music isn't just a career choice: it is a way of life. I have been playing music since I was a toddler; everything I have learned about life has been through music. I believe that self-expression is important to being confident with yourself. I look forward to sharing my passion for music and teaching with any students who are ready to learn!

I have over a decade of performance experience and have played along the East Coast with several bands. Some venues I have performed at recently include The Plaza Theatre in Orlando; Backbooth in Downtown Orlando; The Crowbar in Tampa; The Bandshel
l and The Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. Some groups I play with are Run Rhino, The Mighty St. John's, The Children of Stone, and MPG (Mobile Performance Group). I am a versatile musician who primarily performs and instructs on Drums, Bass, and Guitar (acoustic and electric). I teach nearly all styles of music, including classical, jazz, funk, and rock. I have graduated from Stetson University with degrees in Digital Arts, Music, and Business.

I am also an accomplished computer musician and sound engineer. I am fluent in a range of professional software programs which includes Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Amadeus Pro, Cubase, and MaxMSP. I have done sound for large national touring acts such as Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and Matt Costa.

I feel that nothing is impossible. Great results aren't given, they are earned, and I know how to set goals to reach those results. This is a virtue I like to share with students. My dedication to music has helped me accomplish much at a young age.

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons accommodate the unique needs of the student. My lessons don't merely teach you musical theories: I will teach you how to express yourself through your instrument as you learn those theories. You will gain technical knowledge and the tools to experience your musical potential. Lessons with me are the perfect extra-curricular activity for your child, or a great experience for you. A large part of my curriculum is more than learning how to play a few cover songs. The lessons are also about becoming more confident with yourself as a person and developing character along the way. You will learn about the discipline, patience, and dedication that it takes to stand out among professionals, not just as a musician, but as a strong individual. Music is a part of that. What you play becomes an extension of yourself. Young or old, everyone has something to share with the world through music.

In a given lesson, you can expect half of it to be about the basics of your instrument and the literature for reading music. The other half is about how you can apply these principles in a unique way that relates to yourself. However, the lesson is all about the student. If the student wants to learn in different ways that is never a problem. All I ask is that you're eager to learn! Everybody has different musical tastes and different learning styles. That is what makes every musician unique and every lesson exciting.

I enjoy teaching people of all ages 5 and up and have experience teaching groups or individuals. From beginner or experienced, hobbyist or professional, every person has a place in the wonderful world of music!

*** Studio Equipment ***

We think Eric is great teacher too! I have been bringing my 6 year old son for drum lessons for several weeks and he has been great with him. I was amazed after the first lesson that he already had my son reading music. The progress they make in 30 minutes is amazing! Thanks Eric :)

Lela G.

Deland, FL

About Lela

QUALIFICATIONS:
MUSIC AND EDUCATION:
I am 24 years old and have recently finished school for my degree in Music Therapy and recently completed my 900 hour (6 month) internship at a behavioral health hospital.
I have been musically involved for eleven years, gaining experience from many avenues including band, private lessons, and musical gigs. I taught music theory and ear training at an after school music and arts business for 1.5 years and worked with a variety of students ranging from 6 years old to twenty years old. As a music therapist, I am required to be proficient on my main instru
ment (flute) plus on guitar and piano. I am also required to be proficient in the creation and implementation of goals and objectives, people skills, and to have an empathetic, understanding, and positive approach in all I do. I believe these skills contribute greatly to the effectiveness of my teaching. I am also qualified and willing to teach adaptive lessons for students with all types of disabilities.

PSYCHOLOGY:
I have a minor in psychology and have always been interested in the subject which has lead me to much research of my own. I have completed a practicum at a behavioral health hospital and an internship at another behavioral health hospital. I have taken multiple psychology classes- a few being abnormal psychology, clinical and counseling psychology, and brain and behavior. I will also soon be pursuing a masters in mental health counseling.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Education experience: I taught music theory for 1.5 years in Tallahassee, Florida. I am currently a certified substitute teacher in Volusia county Florida for elementary through high school and I teach flute sectionals at a local middle school. I am also a teachers aide in two kindergarten classrooms. This job requires me to teach students individually and in small groups. I also do music groups with the kindergarteners once a week. Prior to this I have been a regular dividend in a kindergarten classroom for a semester, have lead flute choir and flute sectionals, and have volunteered often in an elementary art classroom.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My teaching style is organized yet laid-back. I am sympathetic and positive in my approach. I am understanding of your busy schedules so am very flexible if you need to reschedule or move around your lesson time!
I have access to lesson books/textbooks and can make suggestions for you based on your needs and desires. If you are a beginning piano student you will need to purchase your own book. (It's about $6.00 on Amazon.)
Our first lessons will be based around assessing your strengths and weaknesses. From there I will create a schedule customized to your specific needs. Your input is important to me as I am always willing to be flexible based on your personal needs and preferences.
Learning is FUN so I will make sure you are enjoying the lessons as well as getting the most out of them that you can!

Over the years now I've been proud to see my students achieve their personal music goals. I have, with great success, taught many students varying from those who couldn't tell you what a tuning peg is, all the way up to those trying to perfect Eddie Van Halen's harmonic fills. I am an extremely patient teacher with the knowledge needed to teach most styles of guitar playing.

Justin is an excellent teacher to 13 year old, Christopher! He is patient with him and keeps the lessons moving and enjoyable. He challenges Christopher with new songs and skills with increasing levels of difficulty and keeps him moving forward. I would recommend Justin to any parent looking to get their child interested in the guitar and anyone looking to progress from the basics to the intermediary and advanced levels! His teaching skills are superb.

As an added bonus: Justin is a joy to work with and has been flexible with our crazy schedule when we need to move lessons around!

Justin has been teaching my 14 yr old son guitar for the last month. He has such an easiness to his personality that he has quickly developed a great connection with my son. His love for music is genuine and I can tell it is spreading to my son. He is encouraging and friendly but still maintains reasonable expectations for commitment and practice. I couldn't be happier with Justin. I would totally recommend him.

Desirae S.

Sanford, FL

About Desirae

My passion for music was awakened when I first began receiving classical piano lessons at age five. My love of music and passion for teaching continuously grew as I achieved my BM in Music Education at PBA, after which, I enjoyed two years of teaching pre-k-middle school music, elementary choir, and percussion ensemble while also giving private piano and voice lessons. Although I loved teaching music to typical students, I began to realize that the need for music education went much deeper, and I decided to continue my path in education by obtaining a M.Ed.in ESE at UCF. Now my greatest desir
e has become to share with students with and without disabilities, the musical passion that I have been so fortunate to experience, while facilitating their growth and development not only musically, but physically, socially, emotionally, and academically as well.
