This was my first private lesson with Dr. Daniel, most importantly he made me feel very comfortable and I wasn't afraid to sing notes in front of him. Dr.Daniel took the time to gather my history and take notes about what I said. Dr. Daniel was very thorough for our first visit, even though I had only booked my first class to be 30 minutes. I look forward to taking more lessons with him and am excited for our next lesson! Thank you so much!

About Debbie
Introduction:

Debbie is available for lessons in her home studio in Potterstone Village, Pittsboro. Music is a lifelong gift that Debbie is so excited to share with you and help you accomplish all your musical dreams and goals. She especially loves to work with children and adults with ADD and ADHD because she knows personally how music can positively impact and benefit the brain of one diagnosed with those conditions. In fact, ADD and ADHD are conditions that are viewed as a benefit when learning music, and strengthens your ability to learn and play an instrument. And conversely, learning a musical instrument actually increases your ability to focus and concentrate, translating to all other areas of your life as well.

Debbie has been playing guitar, ukulele, and clarinet for over years 30 and has been giving private lessons since
1997. Debbie teaches children and adults from beginner to intermediate levels. She especially enjoys teaching parents who want to learn just a few basic chords on guitar and ukulele to give them the ability to create a fun and engaging musical experience that they can share with their children. Getting started is really easy and lots of fun in the process!

Debbie enjoys a variety of musical genres including, but not limited to; classical, jazz, folk, rock, pop, and children's music.

So, if you are looking to change your life or the life of your child, give them the gift of music by scheduling a lesson with Debbie right now. If you do not see a time on her schedule that is convenient for you, please contact her and she will make every effort to work with you to get you scheduled for a time that works best for you.

Experience:

Debbie attended Suffolk College in Selden, New York, where she earned her degree in music performance as a clarinet and voice major. She continued her musical training in music performance at the prestigious Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College in Flushing, Queens, NY, where admittance is by audition only, also majoring in clarinet and voice. In addition to learning about musical performance, she also received vigorous training in music theory, sight reading, dictation, and ear training. All these skills are paramount to succeeding as an exceptional musician and musical instructor.

Although Debbie was trained as a classical clarinetist and vocalist, she was also a member of the guitar ensemble and played clarinet and alto sax in the jazz band, giving her experience in other genres of music as well beyond classical.

After graduating college, Debbie spent a few years playing her clarinet and alto sax in the orchestra for numerous musicals in theaters around the New York area. In addition, she also sang and played acoustic guitar during college with her band in local establishments around Long Island.

Most recently, before the birth of her children, Debbie was active in the musical program of her church in Cary, NC, where she sang in the choir, played clarinet in the chamber orchestra for special musical events, and played guitar and ukulele, and sang for the children's Sunday school. Activities she looks forward to returning to in the near future.

Currently, Debbie plays mostly for her own pleasure, and plays guitar and ukulele on a regular basis for her Wife and two young children, engaging them in fun singing and dancing musical time. "Music is a staple in our home and I hope to help you make it a staple in your home as well. Music truly brings people and families together!"

"Music is life. That is why our hearts have beats." ~ Cecily Morgan

Incredibly knowledgeable in physical techniques required for guitar; He is a master of all the subjective hands-on knowledge you can't learn from a video or a book, like individual hand/wrist placement, strength building, muscle memory, string bending. His curriculum is excellent for developing the raw ability to play as desired.

We initially did lessons in person then transitioned to Skype once I moved away. I found no difference between in-person or Skype.

Before I became a student under my teacher, I thought that my previous teacher was good. However, looking back, my first teacher (Not Robert Grant), was horrible. The one distinct difference between many of the casual guitar teachers and Robert is that he has a great curriculum for teaching kids and adults the proper techniques, different styles, and practices for playing the guitar. I remember on the first lesson, he immediately commented my wrong form for my picking hand. Since then he has assisted me in correcting bad technique, pursuing my strengths and passions, and expanding my knowledge in music theory, both specific for guitar and for music in general. His curriculum is equal if not better than many college courses for music(classical, jazz, etc. courses). I have been with him for 3-4 years now and I find myself greatly improved from when I first started. I would recommend going to Robert if you want to seriously learn how to play the guitar with a brilliantly structured course.

I've been playing guitar for 28 years and Robert has done more to advance my playing in the last 5 months than anything else I've done over that time. Whether online or in person, Robert has a great mix of laid back attitude with a task-master's approach; he encourages his students to have fun with the guitar, but to take it and their work with it seriously. In a really short time, I've picked up a wealth of music theory and my technique has improved dramatically. Most importantly, I'm having more fun playing than I have in years. I can't recommend Robert highly enough.

My name is Ted D. and I have been teaching private lessons in both guitar and voice for over a decade. I began playing guitar at age eleven and continued into college, where I majored in guitar performance. While in college I began studying voice seriously, adding a vocal performance major to my degree. I moved to New York City for additional vocal training, and sang leading roles in many opera productions in the NY/NJ area.

I currently serve as Director of Music and Worship at HOPE Presbyterian Church in North Raleigh, and my performance experience ranges from playing and singing in rock bands and as a solo acoustic act to performing in opera houses and concert halls with symphony orchestras. Whether teaching guitar or voice, I focus on developing proper and efficient technique with my students that enables them to perform in a wide r

“If you can sing opera you can sing anything.” This is something I learned while taking vocal lessons with Ted Dougherty. Many voice teachers aim to silo you into one style of singing but that is not the case with Ted. He will help you build your voice to be the strongest it can be while encouraging you to practice and sing the types of music you are passionate about. Ted is an extremely talented musician who not only has the knowledge to teach you new techniques, but also has the ability to demonstrate those techniques. I started voice lessons with him when I was 12 years old and only ended my lessons with him when I went away to college years later. I truly believe, were it not for my lessons with Ted, I would not have the quality voice I have today. If I lived anywhere near Raleigh, NC, nothing would be able to stop me from going for voice lessons with Ted as often as possible.

If you are a singer, do yourself a favor and get lessons with Ted! I took voice lessons with him for two years it's been quite the game changer. I've been a singer since I was 6 and have had a lot of different vocal training and Ted's lessons were unlike any other. I never expected the techniques. They are designed to make you re-conceptualize how to make the sound until your voice is in the right place. The first few months of lessons were unlearning and really strange because it seemed like he was telling me to make ugly sounds most of the time. Later I realized how foundational and fundamental these practices are for a strong and healthy voice. If you stick with it, and practice regularly on your own, you will be able to do what you thought was not possible with your voice. Like perform Queen of the Night, or Defying Gravity, or Carry Underwood. It's been amazing to transform my voice so drastically, and I would never have gotten there without these lessons.

About Roddy
I began playing Clarinet in middle school band. I quickly discovered that music was what I wanted to do with my life. Through years of hard work, I began to make that dream a reality. I studied Clarinet Performance with Robert Chesebro at Furman University where I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Performance. I began teaching at this time and loved every minute of it. From there I went to LSU for graduate school and studied with Robert DiLutis.

I joined the US Army as a Clarinet player and spent 4 years performing with the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Band and Chorus.

I love teaching and I love making music. I've had many different experiences that I believe contribute to my teaching style in positive ways. My only goal in teaching is the success of my students. If you learn anything new from me then I consider that a s
uccess.

Let's make music together!

Roddy is a super clarinet instructor. Our son was seeking audition prep and building confidence in his technique. Roddy was always on time, polite and encouraging. He is a great communicator with children. He provided helpful guidance on the use of complementary tools such as a metronome. He recommended adjustments on the instrument which provided optimal play and made it easier for our son to achieve his goals. We would highly recommend Roddy as a Clarinet teacher without reservation.
