"What's that knob do?" "What happens if I press this button?" Square wave? Pulse wave? FM? ADSR? LFO?...
AUUUUGH!!
If you know absolute zero, or maybe a little about synthesis, here's your chance to learn what all those knobs and blinky lights do. Starting with the most basic concepts (waveforms, filters, sound manipulation, etc.), we'll get you up and running on your shiny new toy.
No dull, lab-coated lectures here! We can go as slow, or as fast as you want, with a bit of dry humor sprinkled about.
Since it's easier to get where you're going if you know where you've been, you'll learn just enough history to hopefully inspire you to search further in your quest for synth enlightenment.

About Doug

Doug has been involved with synthesizers since 1976, his first being a PAiA Gnome kit. Early influences include Tangerine Dream, Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno, David Bowie, and Isao Tomita. Since then, he has steadily worked his way up the synth food chain. He now owns a LOT of analog and digital synths

Hi there and thanks for visiting! I have been playing guitar, singing, writing and producing music for the greater part of my life. My endeavor is to guide you to an understanding of one or many of these facets and give you the tools you need to become your own teacher as you continue down this path.

Below is a brief synopsis about the lessons I teach:

Guitar/Songwriting:
There will be very little music theory. I never needed much of it to write my own music, other than a few basic theories to get around successfully, so it’s not something we’ll spend a whole lot of time on. I have organized and constructed a course book to keep things lively and moving along efficiently. I call it NOTEbOOK. It’s also great refresher material to revisit in the future.

I teach basic guitar with accented professional appeal and rhythmic structure. My intention is to guide you to create your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave ...

About Lorin

I’ve been a writer and musician since I was a teenager, and have been teaching music lessons for over a decade. I began journaling at 15, mostly free-writing and poetry. This was my segway into guitar and songwriting. Over the years, piece by piece, I’ve gathered many angles to my myriad profession

Thank you so much Lorin for the remote classes!! You were amazing and I learned more from you than I did from my in-person teacher here in town. Thanks!!
Ewa
I had a great experience learning song writing with Lorin. I would highly recommend his teaching services to anybody eager to learn music.
Rob
Lorin helped me hone my songwriting skills immensely, by not only teaching but collaborating with me when necessary. It was refreshing to find someone who put his teachings into practical learning, where I could see the outcomes become apparent. He’s a nice dude, and is experienced equally across his fields. He guided me to making intelligent choices for equipment purchases, both instruments and pro audio gear. We first met while he was living in New York, and boy has he traveled since. I think living in so many different states, and being that well journeyed has given him good cultural depth to his work. Check out some of his own collabs with singers and musicians from all over the world...that really says it all.

Esther is a great teacher and I highly recommend her, especially to those who want to improve their fluency and to those (like me) who are just too afraid to start speaking Spanish. "I can't express enough in words how wonderful Mr. Gallo is as a music instructor. He has been teaching both my boys trumpet for ten years now. My older son has achieved Superior Ratings in Solo and Ensemble for 6 years straight, was selected to perform with the All County Jazz Band for 3 years and contributed to MSD High School winning numerous awards in Jazz, Concert, Symphonic and Marching Band. My younger son started his first lessons last year (6th Grade) and achieved Superior Ratings on his first Solo and Ensemble. All of these accomplishments are due to Mr. Gallo's excellent teaching skills and the knowledge of how to get you or your child to reach their full potential. I strongly recommend Mr. Gallo to any parent or student who wants to learn from one of the best."

Krisztina is not only very knowledgeable and sensitive in her teaching, but she knows how to relate concepts so that the student grasps and understands. Since my time with Krizstina, my playing has made notable changes, not only to me, but to others as well (according to them).
