Hi! My name is Joanna (I also go by Jojo). I am based between Europe and USA. I am a classical guitarist and a fashion model. I have studied classical guitar in Roosevelt University with Denis Azabagic and have been taught in many masterclasses by great musicians such as Sergio Assad. After my studies, I have developed a great interest in exploring the world outside of classical guitar and picked up other genres as well as other types of guitars. I have written various instrumentals and I have been experimenting with different tunings on the guitar. I was previously a member of a jam band and I'm currently working on various projects with other musicians. 

One of the things that I remember during my time in conservatory was how many students felt lost, especially after graduating. In a way, I have experienced something like this myself. Often times, many very well trained musicians with a ton of knowledge end up feeling disconnect with themselves. Despite being able to play pieces beautifully, they sometimes don't have the confidence to improvise or write something of their own. After getting over that kind of a barrier myself, I felt very inspired to start teaching. One of my biggest goals is to teach students in a way where they will be able to play well, but also write their own songs and feel comfortable exploring if they want to. :)

I have a Bachelor's degree in Classical guitar performance from Roosevelt University where I have studied under Classical Guitarist Denis Azabagic. I have a great knowledge of the instrument and I also know music theory. However, what I would like to do differently than most classically trained teachers and classical musicians is to be able to provide my students with the skill to be able to learn to play anything they would like from the heart, rather than simply hiding behind theory and a piece of sheet music. 

My courses will help students explore all technical possibilities based on the classical guitar that they will be able to transfer to other types of guitars, as well as the ability to break down a song/piece of music to truly understand how it works and how to play it. 

Rather than focusing on creating a great classical guitarist, I want to help develop a well rounded musician that would be able to play anything they like by ear, write their own songs, and have good technique. 

Learning music and learning guitar should be fun, which means that lessons should be different from student to student to fit their interest and needs, that's why I accept all levels and styles.

I definitely enjoyed the lesson as Joanna is providing for what I am looking for in a guitar lesson.

I had a Great time. It was a very informative and Pleasant experience.

It's now been over a month of weekly lessons with Joanna and I can very much see my progression with the pieces we have been working on together. Joanna is an amazing teacher who has tons of patience, gives clear instructions and possesses the positive attitude, energy and music theory knowledge to help me learn and gain confidence in playing the classical guitar. Initially I wasn't sure about online lessons being as adequate as in-person classes, but now I know I can become a great classical guitarist even through online classes since I've found the right instructor. Practising and taking these lessons has been so much fun and incredibly rewarding so far. I've just purchased a new group of lessons for the next couple of months and I look forward to our hour together each week! Thanks so much Joanna!
