Eryn J.

Cameron, NC

About Eryn

Hello! My name is Eryn J., and I have been playing the lever harp professionally since 2005, and teaching beginner harp lessons since 2009. In my lessons I like to focus on playing technique and encouragement, and I offers lessons in sight reading, playing by ear, and harp with vocal accompaniment.

You might be surprised at the variety of music harp has to offer; i.e. my top three favorite songs to play on the harp are "Canon in D," "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley, and "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica! I can hold the lesson at my home office in Cameron, or I can drive to the student. A ren
tal harp is available.

*** Lesson Details ***
Out of all the instruments I have played over the years (including piano, guitar, and violin), I have by far enjoyed playing the harp. It is the easiest and most forgiving instrument to play, whether you are a beginning learner with no prior training, or a seasoned musician.

I start out my students on playing technique, holding the harp, posture, etc. Once the basics are solidified, we move on to a much more fun stage: reading music and/or playing by ear, whichever the student prefers. Lessons can range from 30-60 minutes, depending on student attention span, the pace at which they are learning the basics, etc. Each student is going to have their own pace, varying prior musical knowledge, etc, and I prioritize each person's individuality and learning style.

*** Specialties ***
Celtic harp, classical harp, folk harp, rock harp, reading sheet music for beginners, playing by ear, playing by chords, playing with vocals.

Harp Lessons

Eryn has brought my daughter's love of the harp, appreciation of the harp and ability to play the harp to a whole new level. We had two years of Suzuki previously. I don't know what she does, but she has the ability to challenge, yet engage my child into playing the harp with enthusiasm.

Sylvia M.

Falcon, NC

About Sylvia

I like what Plato said, "I would teach children Music, Physics and Philosophy but most of all Music because with Music and all the Arts, you are teaching them the patterns that are the key to learning everything."

*** Lesson Details ***
I use the Alfred books. I try to keep lessons fun. I work to keep a student interested and bonded with the process so that boredom never sets in. One of my strengths as a teacher is inspiring students to reach for their best as well as conveying to them that their best is expected. I instill in them that achieving excellence is very attainable. Students und
erstand that they are valued. Personally, I have had some incredible teachers that taught me lessons on going the distance. Learning to play the piano is a lot about going the distance. I'm thankful my teachers didn't give up on me so I now know how to go the distance and not give up on my students either.
