Carlos Vicenty is excellent!

I have been working with Carlos for about two months. I am an advanced player mostly self taught. I needed someone to give me new challenges and Carlos was just the ticket! In only a few lessons, he tied together many old concepts and gave me new ways to look at them. I always look forward to my lesson with Carlos.

About Shellora

I am currently an undergrad at FIU and am an AmeriCorps member with City Year at Homestead Senior High, where I work in a 9th grade Algebra 1 class as well as after-school tutoring for grades 9-12 in various subjects. I have had experience with students of all ages. I love spending time with students and helping them to learn new things. The subjects I have experience in includes writing, reading comprehension, math, (up to college level pre-calculus/trigonometry), life sciences, and social sciences, and history. I also give beginning to intermediate piano lessons.

Previously, I volunteered
as a mentor and tutor at an elementary school, where I assisted students with homework, as well as reading and math skills. I volunteered as a classroom assistant in an ESOL class at a high school where I helped students better their English oral and writing skills, as well as tutoring for any class where they needed help understanding the subject such as history, English, and biology. I also worked in a 10th grade biology class where I assisted students with classwork and was able to create and teach lesson plans. I was a private tutor to college students assisting with research, paper planning, and proofreading as well as math up to trigonometry/pre-calculus, social studies, and biology. In addition, I have taken classes in a program where I was able to create lesson plans for life science classes and teach them to students in 5th grade science, 7th grade life science, and 10th grade biology classes. I also volunteered as a computer aide for the library adult services for 4 years, where I helped people with computer basics, the internet, and document creation. I am a very dependable and trustworthy person, and I love having fun with students.

Sherrine M.

Miami, FL

About Sherrine

Sherrine M. was born and raised on a small pear and walnut farm in Kelseyville, California. Her mother began giving her piano lessons at the age of five, and by fifth grade Sherrine was participating in the school band playing key bass. She heard a jazz choir for the first time at a high school band concert and immediately fell in love with the beautiful harmonies of vocal jazz. She then auditioned and participated in the Kelseyville High School jazz choir for four years, as well as played key bass (and later trombone) in both the jazz band and concert band. Upon graduation, Sherrine decid
ed to continue her study of music with Kerry Marsh and Julia Dollison at CSU Sacramento.

She completed her Bachelor'™s degree in Jazz Studies at Sacramento State and graduated cum laude in the spring of 2009. During her education at CSU Sacramento, she was in the vocal ensemble, "Jazz Singers," that won the Student DownBeat Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocal Group in the College Division in 2008. She also won the "œOutstanding Collegiate Vocalist Award"at the Reno Jazz Festival in 2008. She was a teaching assistant and student director for the vocal ensemble "Vox 2" for two semesters, and loved it so much she decided to continue her education in graduate school.

In the Spring of 2011 Sherrine completed her Master's degree in Jazz Studies at CSU Long Beach. During her time there she sung in the flagship vocal jazz ensemble, "Pacific Standard Time," under the direction of Christine Guter, which won the 2011 Monterey Next Generation Festival, as well as the Student DownBeat Award for Outstanding Vocal Jazz Group in the College Division in 2011. She has also had the honor of directing the second vocal ensemble, "Jazz and Tonic"for two consecutive years.

Currently, Sherrine has the honor of maintaining a TA position at the University of Miami while pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Studio Music and Jazz under the mentorship of Dr. Kate Reid. During her time there, she has participated in the 2014 JEN Convention in Texas, and won three DownBeat awards as an ensemble member. She is also involved in an after-school music outreach program called GOGO (Guitars Over Guns) at North Miami Middle School which promotes music in at-risk areas. Sherrine is also working as a professional musician in the Miami area.
