I place a heavy emphasis on not only playing music but understanding it. Understanding what you're playing is one of the most important differences between an amateur and a professional musician.
Music is all about relationships and patterns. I teach my students to recognize and identify these relationships and patterns to set them up on the course for musical mastery.

Book NowAs a vocal teacher, I am able to teach my students how to sing in a mix with a relaxed larynx. This allows students to sing many styles of music properly and in a vocally healthy way. Singing through the bridges and expanding the vocal range is also emphasized. We will work on proper vowel placement as well. I teach ear training and can work with students on sight singing and interval training. I encourage my students to learn all styles of singing including classical, rock, pop, broadway and jazz. I've also worked with several singer/songwriters, helping to polish original songs and have even coached them in the studio.
About Molly

Book NowI use a variety of lesson books and curriculum based off a student's age and musical interests. For younger students (ages 7-10), I use books from the Piano Adventure series which provide colorful illustrations and fun games/activities to accompany their piano learning.
For older students (11+), adults, and even advanced younger students looking for an extra challenge, I use the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course series that lead the students through an accelerated learning course and into note reading and being able to play both hands at a comfortable pace.
My main focus and priorities with teaching piano are the following: music reading, musical interests, and a musician's physical and mental/emotional health.

Hi, I’m Britta! I’ve been playing piano since before I can remember. I picked up guitar as a teen. I have been teaching piano lessons since 2016 and guitar since 2018. I approach music lessons with flexibility. The joy of working one-on-one is that we can adjust the lesson to whatever the student brings to the table each time. Practiced a lot? Excellent! Show me what you can do. Having a difficult time with something? Not a problem; let me help. Feeling fatigued? It’s okay; I understand. We’ll take it a tad easier today. I’m sensitive to my students’ needs, and I’m more than happy to make learning an instrument accessible, whatever is going on.
Generally, we start with a warm-up. Then, we proceed to go over the songs the student has been practicing since last time. I provide feedback and coaching. When we’re ready, we move on to new music and assign it for practice. I’m your guide as the music gets progressively more challenging. When time allows, we have several miscellaneous ...

A few weeks ago we discussed how to prepare for a gig, but what if you're stuck on the very first step of getting through the audition? Check out this expert advice from DC-area drum teacher Andrew T., who has experience working as a musician for Princess Cruises: As musicians, most of our gigs stem from informal auditions, which are typically very loose and relaxed. But what happens when you are asked to audition formally for a gig with a large corporation? From 2007 to 2009 I worked …
