Theresa is most excellent. There's no question that she knows music and is an accomplished musician, but the real trick is being able to share that talent with a saugsage-fingered doob such as myself. And make it seem a reasonable proposition, something you could do. She has an innate style of instruction that is at once comforting and challenging, setting the bar ever higher while giving enough encouragement that you want to do better. My highest recommendation.

I have enjoyed teaching children to play the piano and organ for over 50 years. I use classical methods, and I have also developed my own method for instructing that makes it easier for children to learn to play quickly, through the incorporation of color into the instruction method.
(It even works for adults)

I have found that by making it easy to pick up the basics of playing quickly, students learn to enjoy making music - even before they learn the science of music notation or musical theory.

By teaching children to love making music while learning how to truly play the piano, it keeps them interested, makes them happy, and they even look forward to their piano lessons.

All learning happens more quickly and at a deeper level when students enjoy the subject matter and truly want to learn, rather than simply by rote and repetition.

About Leigh

I am a lifelong educator, church musician and choral director who has been teaching children the love of music for over 50 years. One of my piano and organ students even grew up to be the town organist for the city of Sydney Australia, and plays in the Sydney Opera House. I especially enjoy teachi

This is my first time taking any kind of vocal lessons so I was very nervous. Joseph made me feel very comfortable and really works on what I want to improve on. He is encouraging and very supportive of my ambitious singing goals. I just purchased another month's worth of lessons. Would definitely recommend.

I encourage all of my singers to learn music that they love, while also expanding their knowledge of other musical styles. I train all of my singers to be well rounded musicians capable of reading music, sight singing, and performing in a wide variety of styles. Catherine is a calm, kind but no nonsense teacher. She has a passion to help her students grow. She has enabled me to hear my music in a way I never could before. She has also taught me a great deal about staying on the beat which is the foundation to truly expressing any piece of music and essential to playing with other musicians. In addition she is very good at helping students understand the basic techniques of piping. Her many years as a professional solo piper and playing in bands give her a deep reservoir for students to tap into. I give her my highest recommendation.

I am former music major and long time amateur trombonist and was looking for someone to help bring my playing (back) up to the next level. Bill has been amazing at being able to spot areas for improvement and clearly provide several suggestions and approaches to correct them. Very pleased and highly recommend!

Bill is a stand-up guy. My 11-yr-old beginner daughter is happy with her lessons so far and he interacts with me in a friendly and polite manner. He is respectful of our time and does what he says he's going to do. Can't ask for much more. We are looking forward to a summer of trombone lessons with him.

"Ahmad is a master guitar teacher. Every lesson I feel like he's sharing the shortcuts to playing how I want.

I've been playing guitar and keyboards for many years, so I've been somewhat cautious about approaching a professional instructor to help me "get serious" about the guitar. Like other players, I've run into overly pedantic instructors who take every player back to the beginning and teach the "right" way to play the instrument, but also the loose instructors who have no structure and can't deeply answer theory or technique questions.

Ahmad has managed to build a rigorous teaching methodology while still being fun and really engaged in what the student wants to learn. He's has compiled drawers and drawers full of prepared exercises and explanations, but he's looking to help me find the most helpful topics to work on rather than disregard what I already know.

I have a great time learning with Ahmad, because he knows an amazing amount about music, the guitar, performance, and recording. I throw questions about him about frets, intonation, tuning, chord naming, pick angle, string gauges, fingering, chord voicing. He's consistently humble about his knowledge, and then tells me everything I could want to know on the subject. When I ask about players I like, he's completely familiar with how those players play. It seems like half the time he's had my favorite players as his own instructors.

Best of all, Ahmad really loves music. He's genuinely thrilled at my improvement, and is very respectful of what I already know and how I already play. I've been playing the guitar for a long time, but Ahmad got me excited about making music."

"Miss Fawn (as we call her) has consistently shown professionalism, enthusiasm, and patience in teaching our boys how to play the piano. Each week she goes above and beyond in keeping their attention and helping them learn in a calm, fun and entertaining manner. We enjoy her kind-hearted spirit as she shows them new techniques and insists on them perfecting the ones they've previously learned. Miss Fawn constantly leads by examples with high, yet attainable expectations that push our boys to the next level. Before Ivan was my teacher I didn’t really have an interest in piano but as he came along he helped me develop a urge to be better in piano. Ivan also has patience with kids and helps them learn how to get the right notes and memorize the songs effectively. Ivan didn’t just teach me how to memorize songs he taught me how to read the notes and be able to play the piano without memorizing notes on a sheet of paper. He is a great mentor and a better person"

The Truth About the Vocal Fry "Epidemic"

How bad is "vocal fry," anyway? As a singer, should you be concerned about this new vocal trend, heard in artists such as Britney Spears? In this guest post by Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R., listen to a vocal fry example and learn the truth behind the fuss...   I was recently listening to This American Life (a popular radio show and podcast), and the hosts started talking about vocal fry. As a voice professional, I immediately started paying rapt attention. Within a few minutes, …
