I began my violin and piano studies at the age of 6. I am fortunate enough to have had very many great teachers in my life. Since I have received so many different perspectives of teaching in my studies, I have seen firsthand several teaching methods. This molded me into not only a good player, but a good teacher as well. I love what I do and Music is my life.
I have been teaching privately for more than 10 years now. I have been professionally trained to teach all levels of violin playing. I also teach piano for beginner and intermediate levels.

While teaching, I never stopped learning. I received my Bachelor's Degree in violin performance from Kennesaw State University School of Music in Atlanta, GA. During my studies at Kennesaw State I have performed as concertmaster of KSU Symphony Orchestra for 3 years. In January 2011 I tra
veled to China as the concertmaster of KSU Symphony Orchestra for a three-concert tour that included a performance at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. In 2012 I moved to Chicago to pursue my Graduate Degree in Violin Performance at DePaul University School of Music. I served as the concertmaster of DePaul University Symphony Orchestra and was very lucky to learn from some great world-class musicians and professors. I never stopped teaching, even while being in school I had 20+ students I was teaching full time. I love to teach because it gives me great joy to share my passion with other people.

*** Lesson Details ***
I conduct my lessons in a friendly and non-stressful way. I am a very patient and enthusiastic person. If the student has a willingness to learn, I make sure that I do everything to capitalize on that and help them to reach their highest potential.
I structure my lessons to be very organized so we do not lose any time. I always give 100% of my energy in every lesson. I try to make the lesson interesting so it never gets boring for the student by teaching technical aspects and fundamentals as well as exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music.
I require all of my students to practice at home. Practice is essential in making music. If the student does not practice he or she is not going to learn as fast and it will take a while to improve in their playing.
I do not teach all of my students the same way. I try to find different approaches for every student in order to accommodate their level of playing and their needs. I believe that there is no one perfect method to teach a student. I usually combine traditional and Suzuki methods. I construct the lesson based on what student needs to work on to improve as well as what student wants to learn. I always talk to the student to make sure that we have set the same goals, because I believe that it is important to be on the same page with the student.
I also do not have any age limits for my students. I believe that children of a very young age are very observant and open minded. I can start teaching a child as early as 4 years old. I also believe that it is never too late to start learning to play an instrument.

***Cancellation policy***
I understand that emergencies happen. Please be kind enough to contact me as soon as you know that you won't be able to make it to the lesson so we can reschedule or cancel without you being charged for it.
If you cancel your lesson less than an hour before its scheduled time, the lesson will be counted as attended. If the lesson is canceled at least an hour before its scheduled time, it will be rescheduled or cancelled without it being counted as attended.

*** Lesson Details ***
Instructor teaches both drums and guitar, depending on the student. This is unique because if you're studying drums, the teacher plays along on guitar. If you're studying guitar,the teacher can play along on the drums. In this way you learn to play in a band rather than just learning to play an instrument. Most importantly, it's fun!The focus for new students is to quickly teach them to perform in a band. For beginning guitarists, this means learning power chords, simple songs, and 2 scales, eventually progressing to more advanced songs and techniques. Most beginning drum students start by learning basic rock beats, and songs, eventually progressing to advanced fills, techniques and styles. Lessons are geared to the individual student's interests and abilities as well. For instance, percussion students sometimes focus on marching percussion techniques, jazz band skills, etc.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Ludwig s/l series drums, and Zildjian cymbals. Fender stratocaster electric guitar, Carvin all tube amp and Peavy trans-tube amp. Seagull acoustic guitar, handmade in Canada.  

*** Travel Equipment ***
Instructor provides drum-sticks, mallets, a practice pad, and/or guitar and amp if applicable. If student is taking drum/percussion lessons, they need to have their own snare drum and /or drum-set and sticks. For guitar lessons, they need to have their own guitar and picks.

"Brad started teaching our 11 year old son the guitar about 2 years ago. He offers reasonable rates and flexible scheduling. Our son was enthusiastic about music but discouraged after taking piano lessons and feeling like it was a chore. Within 3 months of taking guitar lessons with Brad, he had learned the power cords and could play over 5 songs by ear. Brad s method of teaching emphasizes learning the basics and immediately applying it to playing music a young student recognizes and can grasp. Brad does very well with my 8 year old who hashould a very short attention span. He I'd more than accommodating coming to our place for his first lesson and showing him how to put his drum set together.

My daughter has taken four lessons so far and Brad has her playing very well already. He will even play along on the guitar which gives her the feeling of playing in a band. She is having a good time and looks forward to more lessons.

Great Drum Instructor

Brad is currently working with me as a drum instructor. I had been working with another instructor for about 2 yrs when I realized it was time for change. Brad was a perfect fit when we met. Brad works with me once a week for anywhere from 1/2 to 1 hr depending on my needs. He has been so encouraging and supportive of everything I want to learn as well as what he feels I need to learn. My skills are improving everyday with the techniques he uses which fit me very well. I am very blessed to have him as my new drum instructor. He is very good at adapting to where you are and moving forward from there. I would recommend Brad to anyone who is ready to learn the drums no matter at what level you are currently playing.

Mary is a Tony nominated writer, actress, and teacher whose Broadway credits include Martha Jefferson in "1776" and Grace Farrell in "Annie". She was a starring soloist In Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" at the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Opera and toured as featured vocal with Michel LeGand in concerts including Carnegie Hall. Off Broadway credits include her own musical, "Cradle Song". She studied voice with the great Sue Seton and later with opera star and tenor coach at the Metropolitan Opera, Felix Knight. She teaches a combination of both their legendary techniques. As an actor, she studied acting with Sanford Meisner in NYC, the Rheinhardt Seminar in Vienna, Austria and has been teaching and directing beginning, intermediate and professionsl singers and actors for over fifteen years. y Rock", Gilmore Girls", "Law and Order" and others. *** Lesson Details ***
In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

Mary is a lively, voluble person with enormous experience particularly in musical theater who enjoys working with students.
Initially and as the student moves along, Mary assesses talent and abilities and then continues to periodically reassess the learning in a manner that never ceases to amaze me. I have been working with Mary for six months and found her evaluations of my strengths and what I need to work on to be spot on every time.
What I esteem most is Mary's technical acumen, the techniques she learned from her teachers and mentors and her experience as a performer. Her keen ear and eye immediately pick out every nuance being sung that needs work. She answers questions about where "to go" in throat, mouth, tongue, torso, etc., demonstrating how to correctly produce the sounds, tones, and supported breathing in question. Voice teachers, of course, are supposed to do this. Mary does this superbly.
If you are seeking a teacher who knows her technique, especially in musical theater, I highly recommend Mary.

Hi Mary,
In my opinion, our session last night wasn't productive. My opinion is, you weren't really interested in teaching me. Out of the 60 minute session. I only did about 3 to 5 minutes of exercises. You spent 55 minutes talking about your past and present students, professional actors you know, show business, acting techniques and your accomplishments. You did talk about about the script that i would read and the emotion behind it, but that lead into more about your students and professional actors you know. it took you 30 minutes in your office to find that script, (which should have been done a head of time) then we went downstairs and another 25 minutes of talking before i could read it to you.

Towards the end when i finally spoke up about so much time being passed and nothing being done. You said you needed to see my personality so you can know where to start with me. That made no sense to me, how are you seeing my personality if you are the one mostly talking about your accomplishments and who you know and what you've done?
Why not pick a point and start there and see what my weak and strong points are? You also asked me the same questions you asked me on the phone, have you ever taken lessons before, why do you want to act, what do you do for work which to me just consumed more time.

What i found surprising and discouraging was when you asked me why would I take acting classes up here when there are some of the best acting schools in the world just an hour away in New York City? I wish you had said that to me over the phone before our meeting, I would reconsider taking lessons from you and just spend the extra money and go down to the city. If i were an instructor i would be grateful for anyone who sacrificed their time and money to come see me, and never ask why they chose me when there is better not that far away. With that said I have decided to cancel my remaining lessons with you please do not bill me any further.

By 8 years old, I began training as an opera singer and have merged my love of classical vocals with the therapeutic harp. I graduated from the International Harp Therapy Program as a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and have completed an internship at Apreva Hospice. I have experience playing therapeutic harp music at over 30 different facilities around San Diego, such
as Narzerath House, Bay View, Bella Vista, Monte Vista Village, and La Mesa Health Care Center, as well as making In-Home visits. I also have experience playing therapeutic music at over 20 facilities in Oahu, Hawaii, where I currently reside. These include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities! I also have experience playing for the actively dying for hospice and consider it an honor to be of musical assistance for people in transition.

I began teaching acoustic guitar and voice lessons in 1984, also offering harmonium and tabla lessons a few years later. Some of my students have approached music mainly for personal enjoyment and deepening their self-identity, while others have used the skills they learned in their careers.

I've found that in order to be a successful teacher, I must be patient and compassionate, and try to always put myself in the shoes of a learner. I feel my greatest teaching strengths come from listening to my students, as well as drawing from my experience as a singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist.

I'm grateful for my exposure to the music of different cultures, especially the fascinating polyrhythms of traditional African drumming and the deeply moving melodies of Indian Classical music. I had the good fortune to study these disciplines int
ensively with Master Teachers during my time at Dartmouth College, at Wesleyan University, and through independent studies in India. My teacher training at Pacific Oaks College further deepened my appreciation of cultural diversity as well as my sensitivity to different learning styles.

This experience has enriched my own compositions, as well as my ability to connect with learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to help guide people in developing a personal style free from artificial boundaries of genre.

Currently, I'm working on recording an album of original songs based on the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz and other mystics.

He has had the privilege of taking lessons, attending master classes, and performing with some of the world’s best tubists including Jim Self, Roger Bobo, Norm Pearson, Jeff Anderson, and John Van Houten. He studied primarily with freelance trombonist Amy Bowers, of USC.

David's past teaching experiences include giving masterclasses, private lessons, and coaching small to large ensembles at a high school level. As a former drum major, David led/conducted his band frequently, preparing them for performances and com
petitions. He has a great amount of experience in audition preparation/success, as it is his most specialized subject. During his high school years between 2010-2014, David took over 15 live auditions on the tuba, earning himself a 100% success rate. He landed spots in ensembles all across California including Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, All-State Orchestra (both CODA and CBDA), All-State Winds, All-Southern Winds, and many more. During his summers, David attended Idyllwild Arts, where he landed the first chair spot two summers in a row by live audition, and won the orchestra spot by recorded audition during his final summer. Because of his dedication and strong preparation, David won a spot in every college he applied to including Juilliard, University of Southern California, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Colorado Boulder, and California State University Long Beach.

Though he is a full time student and member of the Juilliard Orchestra, David also has had many performance opportunities outside of school. In 2014, he performed the Vaughan-Williams Tuba Concerto with the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and since then, he has had the pleasure of performing with the Brooklyn Symphony, Mannes College, Weill-Cornell, Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, and the Altino Brothers at Carnegie Hall.

David's brass quintet, Apex Brass, regularly performs in prestigious venues all across New York, including Alice Tully Hall, New York Supreme Court, Morgan Library, and various museums. In the summer of 2017, the quintet took off to Japan, where they competed in the 9th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Shortly after, Apex was invited to Tianjin, China, where they performed at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Juilliard-Tianjin campus, and gave a recital at the Tianjin Conservatory.

David is a truly superb teacher! I was in a bit of a unique situation where I had to learn tuba for a specific performance. Never having played tuba before, (or any brass instrument, for that matter) I was a bit worried. I took some lessons from David, and within two weeks, I got my chops together. David's instruction gave me the confidence and abilities that I needed to perform in a rather high pressure setting. Highly recommended.

Dan is a really insightful instructor. He really knows Ableton in-and-out with his eyes closed. He also has a good ear and is able to help you get the sound that you want. He gives really good feedback on projects that you might be working on. He is really well-versed in all aspects of music production - not only in sound design and mixing but also in songwriting and also can talk about difficult topics like inspiration and creativity in a unique way. If you're serious about music production, I would certainly recommend taking lessons with Dan.

About CLAIRE
I am a cellist who has been playing for almost 20 years of my life. I graduated from UC Irvine in 2014, and have had extensive experience as a soloist, in orchestra, and in chamber music. I competed as a soloist and with my piano trio and loved to play gigs with my quartet at different venues. I am currently assistant principal of the IVC Symphony Orchestra.

Learning classical music can be hard, and I have first-hand experience in feeling the frustrations and pressure of not improving. I believe the teacher makes a huge impact on whether the student continues to persevere through the struggles or gives up and loses their interest in the instrument. My experience studying under private music teachers for both cello and piano gives me a unique perspective on what works and what doesn't. I like to get to know the student and set goals toget
her so I know that we are on the same page on what we are hoping to achieve. My students can expect to not only improve week by week but also increase their love for the cello.
