Music is my eudemonia, as well as, my asylum. I have come to personally know and enamor its therapeutic benefits. It has inspired me to develop personally and academically. I have a bachelors in music and a masters in music therapy from Florida State University. I have experience teaching all ages and find unique and innovative ways to speak the language of you, to help you meet your desired goals as a developing musician. During my undergraduate year I proudly served as the following leadership positions in my 80 plus concert choir as the President, Vice President, soprano section and assistant section leader. I am also a sister of the cherish sisterhood Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity inc. Music is my life, I have no doubts that together we can create majesty to the beautiful art of music!

*** Lesson Details ***
My s
tudents can expect to have fun while still incorporating discipline. All students will learn different styles and techniques from various styles of music to expand their musical talents and knowledge. Even if your focus is classical music, you can still expect to learn some jazz, pop, etc. Students can also expect to work on breathing exercises, diction, basic piano, basic guitar, sight reading, ear training, proper singing techniques as well as the anatomy of the throat. After a few months students will see tremendous improvements in the areas mentioned above as well as gain more confidence, individuality, creativity, adoration for the art and be able to execute their vocal instrument efficiently and beautifully!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have voice books for soprano singers, a piano, and a guitar. I require students to provide their own voice books (if I require them for your particular session), a notebook, and a recording device.

About Lorena
Ciao! I am a native Italian living in the USA for several years now.
My background is in foreign languages and I love traveling and meeting new people. I studied English and French in Italy before spending two years in England working and studying to perfectionate English where I also learned conversational Spanish.
Once in the USA I started working in the information technology field for a company that had a branch in Italy. I had to assist, translate and teach different materials in Italian and I also did some freelancing tutoring.
I have three children and I also speak and teach Italian to them only. It has been fun to see them being comfortable in speaking Italian when we go to Italy. I try to travel to Italy at least once a year.

My other passion is cooking and baking. I was lucky that I grow up with both my parents
as excellent cooks. We had a vegetable garden, fruit trees and livestocks so most of the ingredients were fresh. I started cooking a lot when I moved to USA as I missed the Italian dishes very much and I realized my only connection to my country was via the food.

I also have a love for fashion! Growing up in Italy means being surrounded by beauty everywhere.. the marvelous architecture and art, the language and music, the beautiful landscapes, the fruits of nature and the fashion! I believe because of this most Italians develop a sense of style. When I moved here I realized how much harder was to find unique clothes and accessories so I enjoy the challenge to put together outfits with what I have available.

Lorna was great baking with my 12 year old grandson. He was awaiting hip surgery so the class was a great distraction for him and the end product a beautiful chocolate cake to take home was a fun reward.
Lorna was very well prepared, had all the ingredients and tools laid out, let my grandson do much of the work measuring, mixing etc and even had baked a similar cake the night before so there would be a cool cake to frost and decorate.

After you have experienced a cooking lesson with Lorena you will feel like you have visited Venice Italy.
Her birth place. Lorena will share simple, healthy recipes you will use for a lifetime. I learned so much from her and I'm already a glorified chef. Her signature dishes with all the Venetian secrets can be revealed in her kitchen or yours. She's a very good listener and will adapt to what your family likes to eat. After 15 years working in high-tech I had enough of the constant stress, demanding work and long hours scrunched at my desk trying to solve other peoples issues. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do next so I started taking classes in anything that sounded interesting. I took my first cooking class at the local community college and loved the way it made me feel. It wasn't until I took my first baking class in this degree program that I knew I was home. After graduating with a hospitality management degree, I transferred to Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island to earn a degree in Pastry Arts

My first job was with the Rhode Island Hospital. This hospital had received great recognition for the quality of food the kitchen produced. The director wanted to create a pastry program to expand the selections even more. Thus starte
d my career.

Coming back to the bay area, I wanted a more autonomous position, so I went into business for my self; first with a whole sale bakery which morphed into a catering business. I did this for 12 years, and loved it. All this time I was teaching community baking classes, adult education baking and pastry classes, and teaching part time at Mission College in Santa Clara.

I was then asked by Mission Valley ROP program to create a culinary/pastry program from scratch. It was a real challenge, but I found I really like challenges. From there I went to work for Whole Foods as a Pastry Chef.

After a few years of working for WFM I started teaching at the Art Institute in San Francisco. From there I went to Le Cordon Bleu, Also in San Francisco.

In the middle of all this I got married to a wonderful man.

The Cordon Bleu closed in September of 2016. Which brings me to the present. I am passionate about teaching baking and pastry, and hope to create a program which will allow students to understand baking, not to just follow recipes. My goal is to flame the creativity, and passion in my student, and fuel the desire to keep learning.

We hired Stephanie to do baking classes for my 11 year old daughter and could not be more pleased!! I came home yesterday to not only delicious pastries, but a brightness and pride on my daughter's face that is rare for her. Seeing her shine and develop her passion is priceless! I love to cook but not only cook I love to cook from scratch I like to make as much as possible. I can cook various styles of food from vegan to a roasting pig over a fire. I know that the wrong diet can make people depressed and the right one can make people blissfully happy.

I started by cooking with my mother and learning dishes from my grandmothers. when old enough I started working in kitchens with very talented cooks and eventually chefs. I then started to not only run but design and build kitchens.

I then found out I had heart disease and stopped cooking for a while. But when I started cooking again it was with a renewed vigor for cooking and with a focus to get away from chemicals. I eat food and learning how to cook from scratch as much as possible I don't have the issues I used to have with food.
