I am a practicing personal trainer and strength coach as well as teacher at various community colleges (I teach a college credit personal training certification class). NASM has pioneered evidence-based health and fitness solutions that optimize physical performance and allow individuals to achieve a variety of fitness activity goals.

Top Trainer

This certification covers the science of human movement and how to correct incorrect movement through identifying over and under active muscles.

Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)

This is a performance specific certification. The certification covers nutrition, exercise programming, design, and science. The exam is 2 parts, each 2 hours long in a proctored setting.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

This PN certification was specific to nutrition and coaching nutrition.

The classes are taught at local community colleges and have a lecture component and a hands on component. I teach both of these. The lecture component covers the science of exercise, physiology, and energetics (nutrition).
The hands on component is taught in the fitness center or gym. We cover how to conduct fitness assessments, what they mean and how to use that information to write a program. Exercise and form are also taught as well as how to work with special populations (such as children, elderly, knee issues, etc)
