Crocheting

I have been crocheting for almost 20 years, my mother taught me when I was a child, as early as 8 years old. At the time, it was a skill that I never expected to become so important in my life! Starting with basic stitches then later progressing to reading and writing my own patterns. I have taught myself multiple stitches and techniques for completing anything from clothing, to hand bags, to throw pillows. I have found that nothing is impossible when it comes to crochet. I would love to teach you what I have learned and taught myself and help build your confidence and skill set for crocheting. Whether you are a beginner who needs to learn how to chain or an intermediate who wants to learn a particular technique, I am here for you!

Want to learn to crochet but unsure how to get started? I'll provide the yarn, hook, and knowledge. You just come ready to learn! I provide a fun hands on experience full of affirming encouragement. There is no "can't" in my class. With over 20 years of experience there is no question I can't answer and no snag I can't help you figure out.

My daughter started as a complete convince has been taking lesson for several mos now. Not only is she learning lots of new cool skills and creating lots of great projects, she is excited to see Ms. Laraya for her weekly sessions. She is a wonderful, competent and patient teacher. We are so happy to have found her and highly recommend!

Laraya has been an amazing instructor! My 10 yr old daughter enjoys her teaching style and Laraya has a great temperament for working with kids. 

My lesson with Laraya was so much fun! I appreciated that my time with her was organized as a 'choose your own journey' and really focused on the areas of crochet that I wanted to improve upon and know more about. Welcome to my best practices series. In this series we will learn a number of crochet tricks and techniques that will make your completed projects look more professional. This best practice teaches you how to create a straight seam when crocheting in rounds off of a flat circle foundation. This trick is useful for any project that you work in rounds, but more specifically for handbags, hats and baskets. 

Best Practices: Straight Seam

Here we learn how to complete a flat circle in crochet. This technique uses the magic circle, chains, half double crochets, and slip stitches to complete. This is a very useful trick for projects like basket and bag bottoms, hat foundations, place mats etc. 

Crochet Flat Circle 

Here we learn the classic cable knit stitch. A perfect addition to sweaters, blankets, hats etc. The stitch utilizes different versions of the front post double crochet to accomplish this unique and beautiful texture.

Here we learn a simple yet extremely useful technique that will take your crochet clothes to the next level. It is also useful as an edging for blankets and various other projects.
