About Kathryn
From the moment Kat was tall enough to reach the keys she made so much noise on her family's piano that they eventually bought a kid-sized version to keep in her room. When Kat turned 7 her family got her the best present ever; lessons with an amazing piano teacher.

Kat also began to study flute several years later and soon realized that music was the life for her. She majored in music in both high school and college graduating with a BA in Music from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin.

Kat has a very diverse career in music. From a full time private music teacher to the Musical Director of a Burning Man Opera, to the Section Leader for a Youth Orchestra, to the keyboard player in a Theatrical Heavy Metal Band, Kat is always thrilled to stretch her wings and try new things.

I teach Tuesdays
and Wednesdays in San Francisco, and the rest of the week in the Santa Cruz area!

PLEASE NOTE - because I commute into SF to teach I do not offer in-home lessons. I teach at a lovely studio in the inner sunset!

I have a ridiculous sense of humor. I believe in stickers, high fives, and celebratory fist-bumps. And yes, that goes for the adults as well.

I always looked forward to my lessons because they were so fun, even if I knew I hadn't practiced enough. That is exactly what I try to create for every student I work with.

Besides the humor, I customize lesson plans to fit you. Not just the types of music you want to learn, but HOW you learn. My number one goal is that you completely understand what you are learning. I don't mind in the least if I need to explain a new lesson 10 different ways-€“ we will work together until you really get it! Understanding what you're doing makes it so much more fun.

Have a favorite song stuck in your head, but the sheet music is still too hard? No problem. I'm happy to write the song out for you at your own level. I want you to enjoy yourself, and if that means Lady GaGa then I'm happy to oblige. I will probably stick Mozart in when you're not looking just to make sure you're learning a lot of different things, but that's what teachers are for.

Of course we cover fundamentals and start with the basics. I typically incorporate music theory and ear training with your lessons as well . In 6 months on piano, with regular practice, you will be comfortably reading music and playing songs you enjoy with both hands AT THE SAME TIME! (Gasp!) On flute in 6 months you will also be able to read music comfortably, will no longer feel like you are about to drop the flute at any given moment, will have a solid range of notes and have a solid feeling of control while you play.

I look forward to sharing music with you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
piano, seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
My number one goal is comprehension -to make sure that all of my students really understand what they are doing. I work very hard to ensure an atmosphere where all of my students - no matter their age - can feel comfortable to say "I don't understand".

My first lesson with Kathryn was fantastic. As an adult student, I was a bit embarrassed by knowing absolutely nothing about piano, and Kathryn would have none of it! She was wonderfully disarming, positive, and really knew how to structure the lesson so that I'd walk out motivated. I'm thrilled to continue lessons with her on the piano.

About Michelle
I am Certified Beginning Piano teacher as well as an intermediate level teacher. I studied piano at Cerritos College of Norwalk, CA with an emphasis in piano and completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a focus in percussion from CSU Long Beach. I currently teach private and classroom lessons for piano. I have consistently taught piano since 2002 to students ages 5 and above.

I have traveled the world to perform and teach music. I have been to Brazil to study samba and its many different styles through the World Percussion Program of CSU Long Beach in 2006 and 2007. In 2012, I traveled to Colombia and Venezuela to perform with the band of Terratour- a humanitarian group. My close friend and I performed his inspirational and encouraging music- he on guitar and lead vocals and I on piano. We collaborated with local musici
ans in local venues throughout both countries. I have always admired traveling and performing live, and Terratour was the best opportunity to do so.

From my profile pictures and videos, you may have notice I'm a Carpenters fan. Yes, I am! I sing, play piano and drums. The Carpenters are my musical inspirations and that's exactly how I perform- with passion and tender, love, and care. I was once the other musical half of a Carpenters tribute band, Close To You. My friend and I learned many of the Carpenters tunes and collaborated with vocals, piano, steel drums, drums and other percussion. We have disbanded, but even before forming the band, I was always singing and playing drums/piano simultaneously on my own and still continue to.

I am available for online, in-home, or in-studio lessons. If you want to develop your talent, I can do that with you. You have all the ability and power to learn and be great- I'm just going to guide you all the way to your goal.

Please notify me of the special need prior to booking lessons so I can accommodate.

About Samuel
After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2010 with degrees in Music and History, I spent several years touring and recording with artists on the East Coast, teaching as many as 20 private lessons a week, and studying tabla (Indian hand drums) to keep my own musical education alive and moving forward. I have a passion for music of all kinds, and specifically for drums and percussion. As a result of the diversity of my tastes, I have an eclectic performance background. Over the past decade I have performed with rock and metal bands, jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, various independent singers and songwriters, musical theater productions, African drum ensembles, and even a contemporary dance company. I am excited to be living in Santa Cruz and continuing my own education as a PhD student in Music at UCSC!

Sam has been teaching our son Sam for a year now. He is an enthusiastic, focused and motivating instructor. What our son loves about Sam is that he is teaching him to play drums through the music that our son loves and relates to. This makes it that much more "fun" to learn.

Sam is always on time, very communicative, professional, passionate about drums and great with kids! We highly recommend Sam as an instructor.

Sam is wonderful drum instructor. He is very friendly and my teen son feels very comfortable around him. They worked for several months on drums and Sam even took time to listen to my son's DJ music production. Sam gave him his opinion and suggestions for improvements. We are very happy with how fast my son began to play drums only after the start of a few lessons. We highly recommend him!!!

My name's Natalie, and I'm a voice and flute teacher! I studied Vocal Performance and Flute Performance at the University of California Santa Cruz, and got my Masters of Music in Vocal Arts at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.

I specialize in classical voice and opera, though I believe a good vocal technical foundation is applicable to all musical styles. I also teach music theory, for those just getting into music, and for those who would appreciate a refresher. Since I studied both flute and voice, I am especially well trained in breath management and alignment. The breath is the most important thing in both flute and voice. It's what sends our sound out into the world!

I have spent a good part of my life sharing my love of music and the piano with students. I believe the Suzuki approach is the most natural way to learn music. You are never too old, and rarely too young to benefit from this method, which focuses on a nurturing and musically stimulating environment.

My specialty in Suzuki lessons offers a parent opportunity to learn about music and watch the child grown in poise, confidence and talent through the study of piano. Parent, teacher and child work together, sharing a delight in music and a respect for everyone's role and abilities. Students and families will be part of a larger music community through my membership in MTNA, NMTA and SAA. Register today so we can start working together.

Doing online Suzuki piano lessons with Pamela has been fantastic--so much better than I had imagined it could be. Pamela is very kind, encouraging, and inspiring as she interacts with my children. The online lessons have worked just fine, really I do feel like we get almost the exact same quality as we would if the lessons were in-person. I really wanted a Suzuki teacher, as I am committed to the method, but the nearest teacher is a 45 minute drive for us, so having lessons online has been a perfect fit for our family.
