About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

About Jason N.
¡Hola! ¡Bienvenido! Hello and Welcome!

my name's Jason and I love Spanish and Latin America.

I'm currently a doctoral student. I majored in Spanish at University of California, Davis, lived in Mexico for 3 years where I completed a Master's degree in Counseling, studied Spanish Literature and Psychology at the University of Costa Rica for 7 months and have traveled around a few other Latin American Countries.

My goal is to tailor the lessons to what best helps you learn. I can do conversation classes and academic ones too. I have a lot of material and activities to facilitate fun learning. My command of the language is almost native. I prefer to work with those who really want to learn, just so we both use our time wisely. I work best with those who already have a base in Spanish but want to prefect their knowledge of proverbs
, sayings, jokes, cultural aspects of Spanish, grammar, vocabulary, conjugation, listening and overall language skills. That said, I can work with anyone at any level of Spanish, and have experiences with students from ages 5 to 67.

Jason inspired me to have a break-through with my Spanish. As a nurse with many Hispanic patients, after only 3 classes with Jason, I successfully triage'd a patient using almost all Spanish. I was pretty stoked about the whole thing. It was a really good confidence boost to not only use it and be understood by the lady, but I understood her too. Not every little word, mind you, but I was able to pick out a lot of the context and figure out what was going on. Working with Jason makes me feel like I'm opening up a whole new avenue in my practice, even after 15 years of repetition. I have Jason to thank for this and it's just boosted me towards learning more.

Jason is a quality Spanish teacher. Not only does he have a native command of the language (as verified by my Latino co-worker), but Jason is also a skilled language instructor. Two attributes of Jason that I particularly value are his attention to detail and the way he highlights language patterns to facilitate learning. It is evident that Jason has a huge passion for teaching Spanish.

Jason was extremely helpful in teaching. We went over many topics and he had a strong command on all. Not only does he know the language inside and out, but he also makes it fun. I can have basic conversations in Spanish now because of him. I also appreciate Spanish-speaking culture more too.

About Yann
Bonjour!

My love of teaching comes from my love of learning.

As a graduate from La Sorbonne University, I know that hard work and dedication can pay-off.

As a private tutor for the past 5 years, I've had the pleasure of helping dozens of students realize their own potential and see their grades and scores improve.

I specialize in teaching French for success in School as well as study abroad.

Whether we are working on High School French exam or are going to France for business, my goal is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed.

I assign challenging homework after every lesson, and provide periodic assessments and progress reports.

To ensure that students have a quiet and comfortable study space in which to work with me, I meet at the students home,a library or my own home where I teach private lessons
.

I hold myself to a high standard. For that reason, I often ask for feedback, and I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not completely satisfied with my tutoring. I also offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss the student's goals and put together a plan to help the student achieve them.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Wow, where to begin? I am a person that lives in a place where there is not a sufficient amount of French language teachers (for reasonable prices). Also, I have a very busy schedule and am not able to spend the time commuting to meet up with a tutor as often as I'd like to learn (2-3 three day(s) a week with Yann IS possible).

When I first discovered Yann on takelessons.com, I noticed that he had no reviews. However, I really liked what I read of his profile's pedagogical method. I took a gamble and purchased (20) two-hour sessions. Today, I just finished my 12th lesson with Yann. I can say that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. In the past, I have taken French beginner lessons, have purchased language software such as 'Fluenz', et cetera. Working with Yann has been the best way for me to learn. The pace of learning is perfect.

Why is Yann such an effective teacher? Despite having a low rate, Yann obviously has a tremendous amount of effective/passionate teaching experience. When you take a lesson with Yann, you will discover this on day one. Additionally, he is super patient with me and does an excellent job at describing French grammar. Yann has very high expectations and pushes me to succeed in acquiring the necessary knowledge in order to progress and make sense of the necessary knowledge in relationship to the next lessons. Without question, I would recommend Yann to anyone wanting to seriously learn the language. My intuition tells me that he would be a fantastic teacher for all ages and language levels of the French language. Merci Yann! Vous êtes un exemple fantastique.

Tania is being a great tutor. My interest is to brush up my French after 10 years w/o any practice - focused on conversation. I am really appreciating the classes with her. She brings the right balance correcting what is needed but with encouragement and positiveness to keep you confident and engaged.

I highly recommend anyone who is either a beginner, or any level of French to use Tania as a tutor. I started to learn French at a very basic level and currently I feel very comfortable with the basics of the language. What I like the most about my lessons with Tania is that French is used throughout the duration of the lesson, which really helps one to be submerged into the language.

Tania has been working with me on my level. I have learned a lot and she has also refreshed my memory of what I had learned a few years back. Her classes are very practical. There is tons of conversation and grammar. I am able to apply what I learn right away. My comprehension has improved a lot as well. One of my favorite things is that she is a native speaker so I learn a more practical French with common day-to-day expressions, with many things I won't get from book. Very recommended!

About Kazumasa
I am a Japanese national and have been living in the United States since 2001.
I studied at Shizuoka University in Japan and my major was education. My courses focused on international culture and the classes prepared me to teach the Japanese language and culture to foreigners.
I am currently teaching more than 20 classes a week including classes at a language school and private tutoring, So far, through the many years of being a tutor, l taught and am still currently teaching Americans, British, Chinese, Koreans, Philippinos and others, ranging from elementary students to retirees privately and tutored them in various aspects of Japanese depending on their individual needs through English instruction.
The thing I love most about tutoring is seeing the face and eyes of a student that has been having a difficult time with a lesson, w
hen he/she finally grasps what I have been trying to teach them. Another favorite thing about tutoring is watching the evolution of a student over time and knowing that I am solely responsible for that progression.
I am very thorough and patient when it comes to tutoring my students. I will go to any length to make sure that whatever it is that I am teaching them will be absorbed by them resulting in their betterment, thereby building a sound foundation from which to build.
Let's start broadening your Japanese conversation by talking about what interests you the most right now! Please feel free to contact me to help you achieve your goals!
