Kyle K.

Cleveland, OH

About Kyle

I love music! To me, it's a way of life. From listening to playing to writing and of course teaching. I grew up with music at school and home. My dad was a piano player and teacher so music has been a part of my life since day one and I want to share what I have learned. Everyone has a unique musical talent and I enjoy helping them find it. I believe that anyone can be an excellent musician. Playing an instrument should be a fun and creative adventure. Whether it's strumming at home, playing out in the clubs, or writing the next big hit, I will do my best to get you there!

My musica
l life began when I was in 5th grade and my dad bought me a saxophone, which I played for over 10 years. I quickly learned how fast I could improve if I simply kept playing. When I hit my teen years I fell in love with rock music and mowed enough lawns to buy my first guitar. I jammed and wrote songs with many other musicians and several bands. We played countless shows and released a few albums. Now I write music for TV, Film, Video Games, and other media outlets and I'm having a blast!

I started teaching 7 years ago and found that it is one of my favorite things to do. Helping others grow into great musicians is rewarding and fun. I've learned that from grade school to retirement, each student is a unique and special individual. My lessons reflect that fact so that we can reach all your goals together. *My personal goal is to get my students to understand and write music that will stay with them and encourage them to continue.

All lessons take place in my fully operational Digital Recording Studio and dedicated lesson room. Gaining real world playing experience through technology is a definite advantage over traditional lessons. This also allows us to capture ideas when songwriting and provides a unique practice experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
Everyone is different, and every lesson should be suited to fit the individual.

Depending on the type of lessons (guitar, bass, music production, theory) the style teaching will be very different. It's all about YOUR goals and needs. I will get you to where you want to go!

Each student is going to receive lessons based on their preferences of genre and style of music they desire to play. I expect my students to practice regularly and have a good time as their abilities and knowledge grow. By working together, we can focus on goals and problem solving to get you to the next level of play. Most importantly, we are going to have a blast while we learn to play music!

Imagine looking back years down the line, listening to something you wrote and hearing the improvements and your own personal music history. That's what writing and recording as you learn is all about.

*We'll start slow and build your knowledge base with each lesson.
*You can expect to understand what you are playing AND be able to Write Your Own Songs.
*You will be given everything you'll need to succeed.

I have several reference books, videos, and charts; plus I can show you smart phone apps and websites that will help you learn and practice! We will learn songs, write songs, and record songs. I provide jam tracks for all my students to play along too and offer to record their own music for the same purpose. We also keep a running journal that we use each week. This allows the student to look back, see improvement and be encouraged to continue!

Within 6 months you can expect to understand how songs are built (including chords and scales), be able to play several, and feel comfortable with trying your own skills as a songwriter or guitar player.

Let's start playing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Comfortable and fully operational Digital Recording home studio & music room w/ recording capabilities, computer, keyboard, amps, books, videos, various guitars and bass, tons of music to listen to and study, FREE Wifi and seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not travel. My studio is the #1 advantage for learning!

*** Specialties ***
*Instruments: Rock, Blues, Metal, Indy, Folk and Acoustic styles.
*Production: Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Programming.
*General Music: Theory, Songwriting, Producing.

I personalize all my lessons for the students needs and interests. I use several different reference materials including: The Ultimate First Guitar Book, The Guitar Handbook, Shredding Guitar, Guitar Solo Strategies, and more. All my students learn theory and how to use it in song play and songwriting. I have them write short songs, record them, and finally use those songs to jam out their scales and use theory.

George F. H.

Cleveland, OH

About George F.

IMPORTANT - REGARDING MY AVAILABILITY PLEASE NOTE:

The availability listed on the calendar is NOT my FULL availability. Because I am a full-time teacher AND performer, my schedule flexes throughout the year and the hours listed are a limited window of what I may actually have for you. I am very flexible and try to accommodate everyone. Depending on the time of year, I usually have night hours on two days a week and teach on many Saturday mornings / afternoons as well. Click on the 'Ask George F. A Question' button on the right if you have any questions about availability and/or be sure to
ask your TakeLessons rep about the schedule as you go option when you set up lessons for the first time so we can find a time that works for both of our schedules!

I've been playing and singing music professionally for about 20 years. As a family man and father of two, I also I earn my living and support my family with music. I have a very student-driven teaching style, work with students of all ages, with focus on helping the student achieve his or her individual goals, small or large. I try to keep the lessons fun but focused at the same time.

I bring a balanced and personalized teaching style to my lessons, based on a well rounded education and wide range of real-world life experience. I have a B.A. in Liberal Arts and have performance experience on many different fronts, from local rock cover bands to Top 40, from acoustic soloist to fronting a nationally touring Metallica tribute.

I come from a musical family - my father is also a pro musician. The biggest thing I've learned as a teacher of guitar, bass and voice is teaching the instrument has only made me a bigger student. The learning process never ends and that is one of the great things about music.

No matter where you are with the instrument - a beginner picking it up for the first time, or a seasoned pro of 10 years that just needs help "putting it together," I believe I can help you to get wherever you want to go.

Regarding availability - make sure to inquire if you don't see a time open that suits you - I am flexible. I perform 4-6 times a week and teach full time. Flex lessons tend to work very well.

Eric was great. He is obviously very knowledgeable but he is also easy to talk to and seemed to quickly understand what I knew and what I didn't. A good communicator and his set up for the lessons was very comfortable and easy to find. One hour lesson flew by!

After my first lesson I can see Eric is ready , willing and quite capable of taking on the challenge to work with me as an adult beginner on the instrument. He took the time to really get a good idea of where my skill level currently is and gave clear instruction on exercises to use in order to build from there. Furthermore, he gives a clear picture of the path the instruction will follow in order to get to the level of playing that I want to achieve.
Eric's personality combined with the spacious home studio setting provides a comfortable atmosphere of learning without distractions.
Not only do I feel Eric will be a good instructor for me but, I will also be scheduling my daughter for lessons with him to learn her third instrument, the guitar. So yes, I do recommend him for lessons!

Barbara D.

Twinsburg, OH

About Barbara

Learning to play a musical instrument is a skill that has been proven to improve brain activity. It is one of the only activities to engage both sides of the brain. Students who learn a musical instrument show improvement in their ability to pay attention and understand what is being taught in their academic classes. Most students retain this advantage even if they do not continue to play into adulthood.

Music is fun! It also can express your feelings in ways words cannot. I don't just teach you how to play your instrument, I will teach you to have a love for your music, and from that,
you will find that it is a lot of fun! After all, you do "play" your instrument!

In addition to the violin, viola and theory lessons described below, I am also available to coach ensembles. Any combination of string instruments you are working with, I will work with your group to improve your cohesiveness and your musical style.
