There is a potential in every person to be truly great at any one thing. All it takes is hard work and honest determination, with determination being the most important. Because where determination comes, hard work follows naturally.
I hope to inspire my students to really love making music and being creative with their instruments. I can give my students all the information in the world and tips on how to improve at violin playing, but in the end it will not matter if the student has no desire to improve. And that is why I love to teach- inspiring students to love what they do!

Ear training is the first, and most important skill a musician needs. I have been learning and studying ear training my whole life, and it is a huge part of my life as a musician. From singing, to recognizing pitches, to writing out melodies I hear, to improvising - the basis of all of this is ear training. I strive to help students develop these skills as well.

As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.
He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.
He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor."
