About Me

I fully enjoy teaching music and theater to others and spreading the art of performance, reaching out to all generations. I believe in customizing every lesson to be unique for my students in a way that will serve their individual needs. I teach with patience and encouragement and believe that students prosper and improve much more from a positive experience. My lessons are intended to be fun and influential in a positive light that can lead to a rewarding career, hobby, or just for personal enjoyment!

Every since I was a little girl, I have been devoted to the arts. When I began college, I knew that music was my path. As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer at churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to perform and study music because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

About Me

My expansive breadth of interests has led me through years of experience in the arts and natural sciences. I'm a voice instructor, math tutor, and biology teacher. Now, I'm pursuing a career in opera and vocal performance.

I have extensively studied vocal performance and opera for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have been in many operas and musical theater productions. I am currently performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat at the Booth Tarkington Theatre. I was a finalist in the MasterWorks Festival concerto competition. I have studied other vocal genres, such as jazz and pop. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. I use the appoggio technique of breathing and believe all singing should be produced in a way that does not damage the vocal folds.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique form day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I teach an open throat technique called appoggio. It is the technique opera singers use, but can be applied to any music style. This technique allows the singer to sing with their entire voice using a relaxed larynx. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

Lessons will primarily begin with an introduction to the mathematical concept, followed by examples to demonstrate how the concept is used and then finally questions will be assigned for students to attempt in order to make sure they have grasped the material. At the end of each session, the students will have more questions to practice on their own seeing as the key to succeeding in mathematics is to practice.

About Me

Perseverance has always been one of my many strengths as a person and educator. My interest in teaching and education began over forty years ago. I started tutoring in my eighth grade of school and have recently retired from teaching math in the Nye County School District.
After my tutoring experience in eighth grade, my interests in teaching continued in high school and I took a course that allowed me to teach small groups and individuals called the communications lab. In college, I continued my interests in teaching by attending Oregon College of Education, the number one ranked college for teacher education in the country at that time. I spent a lot of my spare time tutoring individuals and taking classes like the Math Anxiety course, which allowed me to help run the math lab in the mathematics department at Oregon College of Education at certain scheduled times.
For the past thirty years I taught basic math through calculus at Tonopah High School. I have consistently prepared my students to succeed in college as well as in their careers. A large percentage of my students have passed their high school proficiency tests and many of my students have scored very well on their ACT exams. I would like to attribute this to making myself available to my students before and after school, as well as during my preparation period. I also try to keep an open line of communication with stake holders on my student’s success.

About Me

I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end).

While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math!

I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five years (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.
