    Word Up Kids

Word Up Kids is a creative writing program taught in public and private schools throughout California. I started this company 5 years ago after spending years teaching children Reading & Writing in New York City public schools (since 1993.) I teach a craft of creative writing called Method Writing. I didn't invent it, I adapted it for kids. I've studied with its creator, Jack Grapes, for 10+years. Method Writing is a wonderfully simple way to find your creative voice on paper and tap into your 'inner-genius.' At the end of our courses children create a book of their writing and read in public. Why I Do It I always had a lot to say as a kid, and was full of creative thoughts, but I found it hard to 'get started.' I studied writing & child psychology at Cornell, and I wasted countless hours staying up all night staring at blank screens trying to spit out the words. When I learned Method Writing, it unlocked my thoughts and helped me to become a well-paid professional writer. Now I am on a mission to teach this technique to children and teens. I love working with students, and students love working with me. My enthusiasm, non-judgmental attitude, care, and my skills give them permission to have FUN writing.
