Ivan is a great tutor! He really helped me get a better understanding of music theory and also helped me improve my understanding of playing music on the piano overall. I used to take lessons at Axis Music Academy, which is a really well respected music learning institution. However, my instructor there focused more on getting me through the lessons then making sure I understood what was going on. I choose to continue my lessons with Ivan because I see my music comprehension growing and I feel that he knows exactly how to teach you to make sure you understand what your doing.

Marc M. Livonia, MI

About Marc

I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" but only to be a working, practical musician. I will surely go over the need to read music once the need becomes evident, enlighten you as to ...

Marc is wonderful with my enthusiastic 8 year old son. From our first contact with him, he freely gave advice for beginners as we looked for an instrument and continued to help us with everything we needed to know. He was always encouraging and inclusive with the planned jam sessions. The lessons were the perfect balance of a fun hang-out vibe and focus on technique... and a little gum bribe :)... whatever works! We were very lucky to find such a great teacher.

Such a wonderful experience!

I took lessons with Marc over the summer, and it could not have been a better experience. On top of being an amazing teacher (for someone with no prior skill), he was also very considerate, made the lessons extremely enjoyable, and was really flexible anytime I needed to change plans. I would definitely recommend him to anyone, especially if you are just starting out!!

I am an Orchestra Fellow of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. I received my percussion education first from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Percussion Scholarship Program. I received my Bachelor of Percussion Performance at DePaul School of Music. *** Lesson Details *** I am very fun overall and am looking to teach as much as the student is willing to work to learn. A beginner will learn how to read time signatures, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, play at least a page long snare drum solo and perform a double stroke roll and other rudiments.  *** Travel Equipment *** I would like the student to have a Remo practice pad and stand or comparable, a pair of Vic Firth SD1 Sticks or comparable, a music stand and an inexpensive metronome. *** Specialties *** Orchestral (Snare ...

Joshua genuinely cares about how I'm progressing and learning. The way he has broken down the basics so that I can get a better understanding of the drums is something no other teacher has done. He has an innate feel for what it is that you need to improve. Even after a few lessons , I see a great difference and my approach has changed, for the better. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is excellent!!

My daughter was lucky enough to learn from Joshua when he was an assistant director for the Percussion Scholarship Group in Chicago. Joshua is an amazingly talented musician, and he constantly displayed his passion for teaching and imparting his knowledge to anyone at any time. He has an incredible rapport with young students and has my full recommendation.
