Students will have the opportunity to learn to play music by composers such as Mozart and Bach. Jean is a wonderful person, but I just don't see the passion that it takes to teach and play music.

David K.

Worcester, MA

About David

My teaching philosophy is rooted in a desire to help students channel their inner creativity and artistic passion through their voice. My first priority is to create an atmosphere in which students can explore, create, fail, and succeed without fear of judgment. From there, I give students the technique and musical guidance needed to achieve their artistic goals. I believe that music is a serious business that requires immense technique and rigorous dedication, but I believe great technique can be achieved through love and joy, and not just fear.

Prior to moving to Worcester in 2016, I perf
ormed and taught extensively in Philadelphia. I taught voice classes and private lessons at Temple Univ. from 2012-2016. I taught voice majors as well as non-music majors. I served as a teaching artist with Opera Philadelphia from 2014-2016. We focused on bringing opera to Philly public K-12 classrooms. I am currently working on my doctorate in Vocal Performance.

I had so much fun during every lesson I had with David, and I could not wait for the next one every time! He is a very patient person, and he made sure that I felt comfortable. The lessons were half technique and half working on a specific piece of music. He adapted the lessons to my level and helped me choose songs that made me want to keep singing!

I improved so much over the past year, and I learned a lot from David about my posture, the best way to breathe, and how to sing more musically. I really wish all music teachers were like him! You must take a lesson with him – you won’t be disappointed!

I took singing lessons with David for a little over a year. My progress has skyrocketed since I began with him. He is kind, patient, understanding, and passionate. We usually began with a few warm up drills, scales, fundamentals exercises, and technique, with each exercise adjusted to fit my ability and skill level, usually with a clever analogy so I could comprehend. He is a great teacher and any student would be lucky to learn from him.

Mia R.

Norfolk, MA

About Mia

I am a professional singer and actress with opera and musical theater credits. Singing is my passion! I love to sing, and I LOVE to teach others to sing! The human voice is the most natural instrument of all, and helping others to bring out the beauty of the natural instrument that lies within them is something to which I am very devoted. I like to make students feel comfortable and at ease in lessons, and you will find that I am very warm and friendly!

Every student is unique, with their own strengths, their own areas for improvement, and their own preference for certain styles of sing
ing. I can help you find what style makes your heart sing!

I have a broad range of credits, including the Broadway National Tour of Fiddler On The Roof with Theodore Bikel (Tzeitel understudy), and Off-Broadway in Fiorello (Marie) and The Rose Tattoo (Flora). Among my many regional credits are Oliver at the Chiswick Park Theater in Sudbury, MA (Nancy), Camelot with Noel Harrison at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, MA (Nimue/Guinevere understudy), and Is There Life After High School with Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Sharon Lawrence at the Burt Reynolds Theater in Jupiter, FL. I currently hold the post of Soloist at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Needham, and am a Guest Soloist for The Mother Church in Boston. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and have received additional training with many renowned pedagogues, including mezzo-soprano Sondra Kelly, and coaches Arlene Shrut from the Juilliard School, Michelle Alexander with Boston Lyric Opera, and Roger Malouf with the Metropolitan Opera.

Stan M.

Coventry, RI

About Stan

Hi! I am a private music instructor offering lessons both in-studio and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music (Summa cum Laude) and I have over 34 years' full-time experience as an instructor.. I also have nearly decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages, as well as on television, radio, and recording studios. Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.

**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****

My teaching
style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and great results. I don't work with “one-size-fits-all” methods. Each lesson is customized to make the most of each student's own unique abilities, limitations, preferences, and interests. Whether students prefer, or do better, with traditional materials, playing/singing along with their favorite recordings, jamming with me, or anything in between, I am more than happy to accommodate and bring out each student’s best!

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on Beatles One ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.

**** MY STUDIO ****

My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummer going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.

**** STYLES / GENRES ****

I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.

My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, film/television, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged.

**** MY STUDENTS ****

Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.

Do you have a song or two in your heart. Contact me today and I will help you reach your musical goals no matter what they may be!

I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano and now I am thoroughly enjoying taking lessons from Stan. He's a very patient instructor who fills me with confidence. I look forward to my lesson every week and the time spent there just flies by so fast. Stan is very interesting and gives me a lot of information to help me understand music historically and in practice. He tailors his lesson to me. A great teacher! Thanks Stan!

For many beginners, the D chord will be one of the first ukulele chords you learn how to play.
