I am a 22 year old senior music media major (emphasis in trombone) at the illustrious Norfolk State University. I study with the tuba player for the Virginia symphony and had a few lessons with one of their trombonists. I have been playing trombone since 2010, started off on trumpet before then. I play for 2 bands currently, Hot Gumbo Brass Band which is a New Orleans second line band and Infinite Flava which is an r&b group. At Norfolk state I have been in the jazz band, jazz combo, marching band (assistant section leader 2018 and head section leader 2019 for the trombone section), and symphonic band. I am well rounded in all facets of music. From classical all the way to the old tailgate trombone days. I have learned a lot from my mentors and think I am more than capable of getting my students on the right track. I prefer to teach beginner and intermediate, one of the hardest things to teach beginners is the pedagogy, how to make music instead of just playing the right notes. I have

Cara has been a fantastic voice instructor. I started out as a complete newbie with no formal singing experience. After a couple of months working with Cara, I have improved dramatically. I would recommend her highly if you are looking to find your voice or improve your singing.

This is Cara. I’m responding to the two negative reviews. One student simply did not understand the dangers of singing falsetto ALL the time. I do teach falsetto. I actually even send videos out with particular exercises with falsetto attachment. As the one reviewer mentioned, they had a personal grudge against me and apologized. The other student, didn’t understand that I don’t teach beginners falsetto right away before basic technique is established. Thank you for the positive reviews! Unfortunately, I cannot respond to these comments directly.

I wrote the review below because I was mad at her for personal reasons... Shes actually a great teacher. Sorry Cara

Another great session! Starting to get the basics of diaphragmatic singing. Also, starting to work on a song and its so great to get immediate feedback on what's not working and addressing that with some vocal exercises.

Sheila has been working with my daughter for the past three years and I am very happy with the result. She is very patient and works well with children. I believe that if it wasn't for her my daughter might have lost interest in piano as children do with many things, however she rather looks forward to her sessions and seeing Sheila.
