About Sandra
I studied under Mr. Willis Ley at Ley Studio for eighteen years. She was an accompanist for the Heritage School of Dance for twelve years and also played for the School for the Richmond Ballet for One Year. Sandra was trained in contemporary, patriotic and classical music as well as music theory. She has taught children and adults piano both in their homes as well as in her home. She is an accomplished pianist who will give the student a rewarding and fulfilling experience in mastering the keyboard to their fullest potential and play any song for there own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, I would work with the student on learning there favorite song. This would be a goal to set for the student for the first three months. They would be taught to do the scale with their right hand.
They would learn there sharps and flats and the difference between the two key signatures. They would also learn during the first six months some of the basic terms in music theory. I would set goals, but never overwhelm the student, but work with them according to how much they could take in. They would have weekly assignments. If an assignment is not mastered during that time, then we would review it and carry it to the next week. When one assignment is mastered, then the student would work on the next. This would be a step by step processed. My goal for the student the first six months is to get that child or adult to be able to play their chords in their left hand, octaves and fillings in their right hand and know how to work the pedals. They would understand and know the key signatures and what timing they are playing in. The student would also know some of the basic music terms. Please keep in mind that this depends on how much information that the student can process. With some it could take a little bit longer. With others it would take less time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
f/w keyboard ("It's heavy, it was metal inside it!") w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect payment on any music material that I purchase at the Music Store.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Rock, Classical, Patriotic, Standard and Spiritual and also children's music for beginners. I do a wide range of music from the fifties up to today.

***In-Home Availability***
Starting January 2019, I will have an available spot for 1-3 new students (2 or 3 only if they are in one household). A one hour student would be from 7:30pm to 8:30pm and 2-3 students would be from 7:30pm up to 9:00pm.

About Christopher
I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rutgers University in January of 2017, and have over ten years of professional teaching and performing experience. Whether you are just starting out on a horn or have a few years under your belt, I can help you realize your musical potential and show you how rewarding playing a musical instrument can be!

*** Lesson Details ***
The focus of each lesson depends heavily on the level of each student... beginning students can expect a larger portion of the instruction to focus on fundamentals and music reading so as to lay a foundation for further success. For these students I will generally work out of an existing band method as these are more than adequate, and perhaps add a few supplemental materials which in include simple exercises specific to the instrument, scale patterns, and rhythm/musi
c reading examples.

More advanced students can expect to review proper technique and work on appropriate etudes and solo repertoire. I spend a lot of time working on practice technique. Confidence building if necessary. If the student plays in a jazz band we can work on bebop/swing/improvisation as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a stand, tuner, metronome, and video and audio recording devices should we decide to use them.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide teaching materials and can bring a music stand. Student needs working instrument, and should own a tuner, metronome, and music stand. For a tuner/metronome I recommend a Korg TM-50. Nearly anything will do for a stand but I'd avoid a flimsy fold-up stand. I recommend an On-Stage SM7211. Can't go wrong with a Manhasset black stand either.

*** Specialties ***
Classical solo repertoire and audition preparation. Blues and bebop improvisation. Musicality and lyricism. Technique.

Fantastic Experience!

As a colleague of Chris' I can heartily recommend his teaching to any trombonists wishing to hone their skills as musicians. Chris focuses on the individual needs of each student, working to tailor his lessons to meet their specific needs and face their unique challenges. His attention to detail and patience helps each student build a strong foundation in musicality and fantastic brass playing. I recommend him highly as both a superb educator and performer!

Trumpet Lessons for my son

My son is 12 years old, has been playing Trumpet and Flugelhorn for about 5 years, and he needed a private instruction to take his music to the next level. He has made great progress under Chris' guidance, and his easy going manner has made our son feel very comfortable with the lesson environment. He is very talented, and would highly recommend Chris for anyone looking to further their capabilities.

About Dana
Hi. My name is Dana B. I have a passion for teaching students how to read music, understand basic theory and even choose some of your own music without feeling the frustrating pressure that is often associated with music lessons. I teach a foundation of piano method, technique and theory, using classics with a good mix of fun and contemporary music thrown in! I also teach voice and performance.

I was formally trained in piano for over 10 years by a teacher from the National Guild of Piano Teachers and I have been playing for more than 30 years. I have extensive professional and volunteer experience teaching children/youth of all ages. Time slots are available both after school hours and during the school day for home-schoolers.

I would love to share my knowledge and enthusiasm about music with you and your child!

I have been playing the piano and the trombone since childhood. Growing up in a musical family, music has always played a big part in my life. I was active in school bands in addition to taking private lessons throughout grade school. In high school I was a member of Tri-M (a musical honor society), qualified for district band through audition, and was ranked in the top 10% of trombone players in the state of Virginia. Throughout my education I developed a working knowledge of brass instruments, music theory, a variety of playing styles, and much more.

After high school, I pursued and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, while continuing my musical career, playing in bands offered by the school as well as in the Richmond area. I am currently active with the ACCA Temple Shiners in their German band
, The Sauerkrauts, 100% of whose proceeds go to benefit children in Shriner-owned hospitals.

I have been giving private lessons since 2006, and have a deep passion for musical education. I feel learning to play an instrument enriches life in a way few other things can.

About Nathan
I'm a lead vocalist, guitarist, and pianist that has toured in a professional pop punk band and recorded albums. I've been a worship leader at a large church for 5+ years. I currently lead the worship ministry at my church, where I coordinate a large worship team of various instruments.

I play acoustic and electric guitar, and I'm very eager to pass on what I know to students! I've been teaching on a more casual level for years, but I'm new to teaching music professionally. If you're looking for a flexible, honest, and encouraging teacher who has experience playing some of the largest clubs in the country, recording albums with industry professionals, leading worship at large churches, and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, I might be the teacher for you!

About Seamus
Hi! My name is Seamus. I've been a musician and guitarist for over a decade now and am on my last semester of studying music and classical guitar at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Within the past few years, I've had the opportunity of studying with many talented and experienced professors and instructors of classical guitar, notably John Patykula at VCU. I've earned the rank of concertmaster of the guitar ensemble and have performed with the group and solo on many occasions within my time at school. Outside of my studies, I have performed classical guitar for weddings, business conventions, parties, etc. and have an extensive repertoire that has helped me cater to different kinds of events. I pride myself on my classical guitar technique and have been through many masterclasses and lessons to perfect each intricacy.

As well as
classical guitar, I also play electric guitar in two local progressive metal bands, Retrosphere and Epiphany. Both bands incorporate technical and difficult guitar parts and have grown to incorporate extensive composition, theoretical elements, and self-production. I've had the opportunity of performing at local venues like Strange Matter, Capital Ale House, Gallery5, and others.

As a teacher, I aim to individualize lesson plans and want all of my students to reach their goals with the guitar and in music. With this, I do try to incorporate as many elements of music as necessary in teaching. This can include anything such as ear training, sight reading, music theory, and technique. Of course, things are flexible and in the end, I just want you to find what you love with the instrument and have fun!

I’m Nate and I’ve been teaching self-doubters for 8 years.

Learning guitar takes effort, but about as much effort as skipping intros on Netflix. It’s not rocket science. You don’t need to be a prodigy. And you certainly do not need a musical background.

What you need is a good teacher and at least 1% of a positive attitude.

In 8 years of private teaching, I have met many students and musicians who never believe they could get past the basics.

I will take you from “I suck” to “Well that wasn’t so hard.”

I believe in the power of music and in you!

Guitar is the most amazing instrument to me. I got really lucky because someone gave me an electric when i was 12 and I just played it. I didn't even know they had to be tuned at first! Once I started playing with people I learned so much so fast. I also went to school for recording and am able to use Preamp features to increase the quality that you hear while we are playing together. I use loops to demonstrate ideas and also to keep time while we jam together. I promise you within a few lessons we will be making sweet music together. If you want to know theory and all the other mysterious interesting corners of music we will get there. It is all about playing and having fun. I look forward to hearing from you.

Why Are There Different Violin Sizes, and Why Does it Matter?
One of the main concerns that violin students and their parents typically have is purchasing the right-sized violin. Obviously you can't give a five-year-old a full-size violin and expect him or her to be able to handle the instrument. And once kids are in their teenage years, trying to keep up with growth spurts can be extremely difficult, especially considering how much violins cost. Even adults can run into problems when selecting the right size. Fortunately, after a little research, selectin
