Do you want to build learn basic woodworking, or build shop cabinets, but don't know where to start? I've been doing woodworking for over 30 years and have been designing and building shop cabinets for the last 4 years, and I love to share my learning with others. If you are just starting woodworking and don't know where to begin, I've got some great starter projects for you to work on that require a minimum of skills and tools. Most of my lessons are online via the Takelessons interface, but if you live near Lexington, KY, I'd be glad to teach you in my shop. My specialty is in designing and building shop cabinets quickly and efficiently. If you would like to design and build shop cabinets or custom drawers for a storage space that you would like to better utilize, you've come to the right place! If you or your child would like to learn basic woodworking (esp. during this COVID season), I would be excited to help you. Please send me a message if you have any questions.

Paul is a fantastic teacher. I have minimal woodworking experience and he does a great job of breaking down projects and how best to approach different stages of each project. He has helped me discover which tools best suit my interests as well as shown me a variety of resources to call upon when our lessons have finished. Great guy and a great teacher!
Phoebe
I took this course with no woodworking experience, at all. Paul is a patient yet enthusiastic teacher. During lessons, he breaks down the steps and explains each in a way that makes sense to me. At the same time, his love for the subject comes through. He has limitless energy and will provide guidance during the week when I have questions about the homework. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to use his knowledge and support.

Hasaan is a very patient teacher--which is definitely a requirement for online sewing/pattern making lessons. We worked on my bodice sloper, and he was able to quickly identify the fitting issues I had. He shares best practices, tips, and terminology all throughout the lesson so that you learn as much as possible. Will continue with him.
Lauren Stein
I had a tight time schedule to finish a summer project before I went in for surgery and Hasaan was very sensitive to that. He was able to teach me new skills in pattern making and cutting that made the process easier/ more accurate as well as sewing techniques. I would say my experience with him was very positive and he was always cheerful and and in a great mood and helped me out a lot with my project. I would definitely recommend using him for lessons.

Sewing a Patchwork Quilt: A Project You Can Start Today

You may have rolled your eyes as soon as you saw this title of this post because it is 2021 and sewing a patchwork quilt is not even on your radar. You may also have immediately relegated this project to your retirement years, when you imagine that you will have endless amounts of time to learn to make a quilt. 6 Tips For Improving Your Chess Game

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …

Sewing at Home: 3 Easy Sewing Projects for Children

The energy that my first time sewing students bring to the very first class is wonderful. They are so excited about the creative possibilities that learning to sew will bring them. Often this excitement is tempered by the fear of using a sewing machine. I start by encouraging them to do some easy sewing projects for children, so they can get comfortable with using a sewing machine. It is also a great way to learn some very basic sewing skills. The following projects are quite simple, quick and u …
