Winston Salem, NC

About Willy

Willy has been teaching music for more than a decade, carrying on the tradition he learned when his father taught him piano as a youth. He is a multi-instrumentalist with a degree in music from Earlham College in historic Richmond, IN (the birthplace of recorded jazz, and home of 30s era Genette Records).

As a sound technician Willy gained valuable experience working at the world famous Tarry Town Music Hall near Sleepy Hollow, NY, where he worked with top notch touring bands like Blues Traveler, the Indigo Girls, Paul Shaffer, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the late, great Levon Helm. He al
so worked with A-list actors such as Stanley Tucci, James Cahn, Kevin Bacon and Keanu Reeves.

While living in Austin, TX, Willy was a member of the American Federation of Musicians alongside greats like Los Lonely Boys, George Straight, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson.

As a father of four young children, Willy teaches in a family friendly environment. At the SIW events, he has taught elementary students as well as adults all the way up to 86 years old! Willy is a background checked teacher and would love to pass on his knowledge of music to you and your family!

Alanna H.

Greensboro, NC

About Alanna

Alanna has traveled the southeast performing with the Redcoat Marching Band from The University of Georgia, was lead alto in the UNCG Jazz Band, and performed with the UNCG Orchestra in Gershwin’s "An American in Paris"- a rare treat for performing saxophonists. In March 2013, Alanna performed with the UNCG Wind Ensemble as they premiered John Mackey's "Frozen Cathedral," which earned a number 1 position on the iTunes Classical charts.

Alanna recently graduated with a degree in Music Performance (Saxophone) from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro studying with Dr. Steve Stuse
k. Alanna previously attended the University of Georgia and studied Saxophone Performance with Dr. Kenneth Fischer.

Alanna'€™s love for music does not discriminate, and she has enjoyed many performance opportunities outside of the woodwind family. She has played Euphonium in The University of Georgia Pep Band and has played Guitar with the UNCG Old Time Ensemble.

Alanna maintains her creative spirit by visiting with family and friends, reading, yoga, running, and any other hobby that sounds fascinating and not too expensive.

Jason M.

Thomasville, NC

About Jason

I first began teaching when I was in undergraduate school as a music major. I was a teaching assistant for an introduction to music theory class. It was always encouraging for me to see people grow in their understanding of music and to apply that knowledge in a meaningful way. From that point on, I sought for further opportunities to teach others the wonders of music and how it could transform their life in such a meaningful way. This led me to work at a piano store near to the college as a beginner piano instructor and teaching guitar, bass guitar, and piano on my own through private instruc
tion.

I've always saw teaching as an opportunity to share with others what was given to me in a judgment free way. I also know for myself that people learn in different ways and at a different pace. Because of that, I always take each student from where they're at and help them to grow in a way that is most natural for them. This helps the learning process become really enjoyable, which often results in retaining what we learn.

As for me, I began playing guitar at the ripe old age of 13. Later on, I picked up other instruments as well. I currently play for two different bands and take great pride and joy in doing so. I am also a lifelong learner and to continue to grow in my studies of music. It is my belief that as long as we are alive, it is an opportunity to grow. Won't you therefore join with me as we grow together in this journey of understanding.

One of the lasting joys of life is being able to sit down in your living room alone and play your guitar or keyboard. And you can play for the rest of your life. Now that is a bargain. Jason Menagio can help you make that dream come true with his passion for playing and teaching. Once you get that wonderful feeling of accomplishment that accompanies learning to play music, just like a hole in one on the golf course, no one can take it away. I have taught for 50 years and recognize in Jason a unique ability to not only teach the fundamentals, understand the psychology behind it, but also to feel the passion of music. That sets him apart.
