It is truly unfortunate that so often music theory is presented as a mere collection of naming systems and rules. To me, understanding music with the mind is a key ingredient to becoming an effective and inspired artist. In music lessons, I teach not just how to talk about music but the fascinating complexity of how music operates -- the fundamental principles that illuminate the translation of sound into thoughts and emotional expression.

I offer instruction on a range of topics: composition, improvisation, theory, ear training, arranging, piano performance and more. While providing a broad, synergistic foundation in musical skills and understanding, I also encourage students to pursue their unique interests and inspirations. On the first lesson with a new student, I'll always go over the options for potential areas of study and work with the student to develop an appropriate course of study customized to their needs and interests. For information on the other areas of study that I ...

Ryan is a composer, author, pianist, music producer, and teacher. Ryan is the author of a music theory and composition textbook entitled The Theory and Creation of Music. He has won awards for his original music, such as his first place award for Best Original Film Score in the Montgomery County Fil

Karen is a wonderful teacher. Very experienced and patient with a beginner.

Karen is so friendly, sweet, and methodical in teaching style. It is wonderful to be introduced to dulcimer with her and - literally - learn how to fine tune my instrument with her tips and encouragement. She makes me even more excited to tune and play my instrument. I can easily get happily lost simply in the tuning process with my dulcimer as it brings me a lot of joy just to hear the notes come into tune and playing very small, minor amounts of things on my dulcimer as is... it is so nice to have a guide like Karen to help me better to understand and dance with my dulcimer, learn about music and how the dulcimer strings are arranged, and how to hold the hammers! I thought I was excited to learn before... I'm even more happy and excited now and have some clear, down to earth steps to begin to actually really play with my instrument!

I started with Celine for piano, but then we started doing half piano and half singing lessons.

Celine and I went through a piano lessons book. It was very helpful learning how to learn a song. I got used to reading notes and how to practice. I came from being self taught through youtube and playing by ear for around a year or 2, but I never learned the traditional and more classical way. I really learned a lot from that.

Singing was more exciting because I grew at a pretty fast rate. Celine is really knowledgable about the different ways a person can use their voice and selecting out warm ups to help the growth of a specific singing technique. My voice got stronger and more stable. My head voice is more natural. My singing background was just doing it for fun since I was a kid.

Me and Celine both like kpop and korean music so I sang those as well as some English and Japanese songs. So pretty flexible there. She was able to give me really good recommendations for songs to sing based on my voice.

Celine is very helpful and has been very supportive in finding songs that fit my current range but also challenge me!

Christine is a fantastic piano teacher! She made me feel comfortable and at ease with what was my first ever exposure to the piano. I didn't feel nervous or anxious. She gave me a good explanation of the basics and clearly communicated what I needed to know so I could perform the required actions. She gave me excellent feedback, correction, and encouragement. "I am almost seventy years old. When I thought of traveling to the Middle East, I spent a year trying to learn basic Arabic- I bought books, videos, and even an online program. I spent so much money but couldn't learn it well. I thought maybe I just was not able to because of my age or because it was too difficult.

I saw Aaron's page online by chance and decided to give it one last try. Aaron is so skilled in how he teaches- he is creative and clever and humorous. His patience with me increased my confidence and interest in continuing to learn Arabic even after my trip. After three months of lessons with Aaron, I finally have a grasp on the language and feel comfortable traveling. I look forward to my lessons when I return.

Thank you so much Aaron."

"I have been learning french for many years through my school system, and I have never really been confident in the language itself even though I've really liked it. Along with learning the smaller important details about french, I've been learning how to be confident with my speech, and how to sound more like a natural french speaker. Zach is also super kind, and will help you with any french questions you have, in and out of your lessons."
