I continued my studies at Wheaton College, MA, and graduated with a B.A. in Music. Throughout college, I directed and conducted vocal and instrumental groups of various genres, and also began teaching.
Since graduating in 2008, I've taught hundreds of students voice, guitar, piano, music theory, and audio engineering.
During the day, I am a Network Engineer and enjoy playing ice hockey!
*** Lesson Details ***
I first ask the student, as well as the parents, to agree on a set goal. Then, I develop a 'mini-curriculum' tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses. I structure each lesson the same way
My student's would say that my lessons are motivational and packed with energy. I always follow up with parents to discuss progress, and the student's mandatory log book helps to keep everyone informed of what is expected each week.
*** Instruments/Equipment ***
I provide only equipment that I will personally use for the lesson (books, audio, and instrument). I do not provide instruments, electronic equipment (i.e. amps, cords, keyboards, speakers, computer, etc), books, or sheet music. I expect my students to have or purchase all the materials they will need.

My teaching methods fall into these four categories: (D.A.D.E.)
• Discovery- Gathering relevant and resourceful information of voice functionality.
• Application- Putting technical skills to use and knowledge of when to use them.
• Development- Process learning- Changes cause/effects and as a result, progress, production, and promise. “Trust the process.”
• Execute- To bring forth, carry out, and perform!
Process teaching and learning is a specific teaching style that not only empowers the students to feel confident about their craft, it also gives the students useful skills that can be applied to REAL "time-life" scenarios. This reinforcement confirms that the students have indeed learned what they've hired me for and more.

My interest in the Hispanic language, its apparatus, style/approach, and culture as it pertains to the ever growing population and bilingualism around the Americas. My desire is to engage the students in the discovery and appreciation of the lingual- romantic tongues.

Public Speaking: Like that of the other subjects, my primary focus is to give you fundamental skills of interpretation. There are seven interpretation techniques that are used to empower and influence not only the speaker, but even your audience. The seven interpretative techniques can be applied to these six types of speeches: Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, Persuasive, Informative, and Social groups. You will also learn stage presence, and effective leadership skills. By the end of this course, you’ll not only have the confidence, you’ll have the command and compassion to lead.

I am aware the Italian has one of the most complex grammars, but I also know that speaking and reading and watching Italian movies, soccer game or Television News makes automatic to learn the basic rules useful for a good conversation. We can use a really simple grammar book to support with the basic rules up to more advanced grammar books if we may need.
My tutoring approach is focus on student's weaknesses and strengths: use the seconds to correct the firsts. What it is important is to work on what you really like (movie, politics, receipts, actors, history, vacations, ...) and I promise it works. I already experienced this approach with a lot of students and friends who want to speak Italian and know Italy ...waiting for a great vacation "nel Bel Paese".
I try to be flexible with time and I offer makeup classes in case of 24 hours cancellation. I have an quite full equipped office at home but I am available to travel if it is more convenient for the students.

I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience throughout the D.C. area, at Alliance Francaise, Berlitz, In Lingua, etc. I have been tutoring consultants and employees from major international organizations for the past 10 years as well as young children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds.

In addition to her official position as UUG Youth Director, Kate was instrumental behind the scenes with the adult programming and community building, contributing to the steering committee with valuable ideas, input, and efforts to promote us in the social media, bringing in important speakers and contacts, and always lending a tried and true hand. She single-handedly planned and presented a very much appreciated service in January 2016 entitled: "An Active Peace for 2016: Profile of James Twyman, Peace Troubadour (and other peacemakers)," including a well-received lecture, music, readings, and audience participation. She was a stalwart support and cheerleader for our group and she left a large gap in our community. But we take heart in what she embedded in our group -- a standard of excellence for our children's edification and enjoyment that we will try to replicate in the future. She trained an up-and-coming youth leader, an adolescent who blossomed under Kate’s tutelage. Kate brought into our fellowship a wonderful energy, love, creativity, connectivity, artfulness, and magic which should enrich the environment of any employer lucky enough to enlist her aid and services. She was entrusted with our children’s welfare, with access to buildings and equipment, and was the most reliable and delightful person imaginable. She worked sometimes under very uncertain conditions when we did not know who the participants would be and under frequently and unexpectedly changing conditions, and she was always an excellent problem solver and adapted to the prevalent situation with grace and joy. The entire UUG Steering Committee wholeheartedly endorses her for any work involving children and/or adult learning creativity, art and discovery.

While studying Spanish, I learn that teaching a language is not solely about grammar but rather the culture and structure behind it. Grammar nonetheless is part of the language and a co-requirement to excel academically. My qualifications comes from my multicultural methodology where I teach and provide students resources to self-learn and structure their metacognitive abilities. Merging both culture and language provides opportunities to research, creative write, independent study themes and topics related to the language of Spanish. My interdisciplinary vision provides students the ability to learn grammar not as a base but a tool to comprehend, critical think, and synthesize own their own perceptions and opinions about its culture.
Being a teacher means that one once was a student. The value of learning different things and paying attention to details while having fun in discovering and researching has make craft my abilities to teach the particular subjects describe previously.
