Hi everyone! This is a culture video about the school system in Mexico, where I grew up. Take note: all of this information in based on my experience growing up in Mexico. Some vocabulary might be different in other Spanish speaking countries. My culture videos are mostly in Spanish, but I try to speak slowly and have images and text so it's easy to follow. Welcome! My name is Azalea, I grew up in Mexico and I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I hold a Master's degree and I have been teaching since 2012. Some of my classroom settings include private lessons, group lessons, summer camps, online lessons, among others. I have experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds such as children, adults, college students, working parents, etc.

I believe it is important for students to be emerged in the language they are learning. For this reason, I like to encourage my students to practice in and outside our lessons as much as possible by speaking, listening, and reading in Spanish. Every single student is different and they all have very different learning techniques; therefore, I customize my lesson plans to fit my students' needs, learning style, and interests. Plus, the most important part of the learning process is to have fun and to enjoy ourselves every lesson! 

Our background or language should never be a reason to feel disconnected from others, like our own family, friends, or colleagues. I am a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in Mexico. All levels and ages are welcome!

Azalea not only keeps conversation flowing, but recognizes where you can use more practice! In our lesson she helped me improve my listening skills and made it feel like we were working together. Practicing another language can be very intimidating but Azalea has a very comforting presence that makes it feel safe to make an error, and subsequently rewarding when a mistake is corrected. Not only did I gain a lot from my one hour session, but she provided me with extra skill-enhancing links that I can reference even after time is up!
