If you are trying to start learning Japanese, you found a right tutor!! I will get excited and happy if I see people who want to learn and improve their Japanese. I can provide an excellent lessons so that you feel your progress.

Hello!  My name is Jinko and I love teaching!  It's a joy for me to see people's progress and success. Being a teacher for 11 years in Japan made me feel this is something I love to do, want to keep doing as long as possible.

I was born and raised in Tochigi, Japan. I have been teaching Japanese since I moved to America in 2001. I started teaching Japanese at community college. Then, local homeschool group asked me to teach Japanese in their community. Also, I was teaching at Saturday school(HOSHUKO) in Bethesda, MD, where students can learn many subjects in Japanese.  At the same time, I am raising 3 children as bilingual.  

I earned B.A. and certified in Japan as a teacher.  11 years of experience as a public school teacher in Japan gave me a joy to see children's success and achievement. That's why I've started teaching in America too.  Learning is fun!  Not only children, but  adults also can have fun to learn something new.  Learning is fun and exciting!! My role is to help and support you to achieve your goals. 

Because I use both languages, I can teach Japanese efficiently, explain details, and provide some useful tips.  I am very good at finding what kind of learning style is effective to you, or you prefer. So that you feel comfortable while you learn with me.  Also, I believe it is one of my talents to find out what each student needs to practice and study in order to improve their skills.  Which means I plan my lessons based on your needs so you can learn efficiently.  In other words, I customize each lesson.  I am very confident that I can provide high quality lessons and make you satisfied. My experience and constant effort to improve my teaching skill is the benefit for you. 

Please read about my policy before you sign up with me. This is very important for both you and me. Please note that my current availability is really limited. If you want to learn Japanese with me, but you don't find any time slot which is convenient to you, don't be discouraged. I can add you in the waiting list and let you know once I have open slot. 

【Cancellation, reschedule and late policy】
I respect your time very much.  Thus, I expect you to respect mine as well.  Lesson cancellations and rescheduling must be done 24 hours in advance before the scheduled lesson. If you do not reach me within the 24 hour period, you will be charged for the lesson. Please remember that you must contact me 24 hours in advance or you will be charged for the lesson. No matter what the reason is.

If you can't make your scheduled lesson for more than two weeks consecutively (for vacation, camp, and so on) I need to give your lesson time to another student. My schedule is very tight since I work with many students. Which means that I can't afford to hold a time slot with a student who can't consistently show up. If you would like to start lessons with me again, please contact me with your preferred time slot from my availability.

If you will be late for your lesson, please contact me by text or email before your lesson starts. I will wait until you log in, but I can't extend your lesson time. No refund will be given for the time you missed.  I need to end your lesson at the scheduled time. I am a native speaker and former school teacher in Japan.  'Learning is fun' -------this is my motto.  When you achieve your goals, you feel a joy from your accomplishment, right? Sometimes, it's difficult to keep motivated. That's why I am here to help you. I want to help you to achieve your goals, keep motivated.  My lesson starts from finding what students really need to learn.  To understand each student is the key to success.  I am very strong in teaching proper Japanese, including reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji with fun way.  Also, casual, informal, practical Japanese too. For intermediate, advanced students, I can help you to improve more native-like pronunciation or accent. I have some good methods to reduce foreign accent.

Jinko sensei has been a phenomenal teacher in the time I have been taking Japanese lessons. She has been patient with my ever changing work schedule and flexible when it is necessary. She has also been patient with me as I am a rather slow learner and always finds a way to teach the subject material in a way that is easy to understand. Would recommend her to anyone wanting to learn Japanese.

Ms. Jinko has really helped me - I stalled out trying to learn Japanese from a textbook alone, but with her help, I continued on.  This will soon be the second New Years I've been under her tutelage, and since last New Year's my goal of improving my reading was reached, and I've become a lot more confident in speaking Japanese out loud even if I have to use a 'katakana word' instead of vocabulary I don't know.
