I primarily play the French horn, but I can teach basic fundamentals of trumpet playing to any beginning student, any age! Please reach out and I'll answer any questions you may have. Lessons will be catered to each student and you or your child will build a strong foundation that can be applied to all things in life!

For intermediate students, I may elect to use my horn to demonstrate rather than my trumpet, but the principles are the same! An intermediate student would be most helped by me if they were to bring their own music in to work on.

We will use a 2-1 approach to constructive criticism, where for every possible improvement, we will say two positives. At times, we will use singing as a tool to figure out everything from melodies and rhythm. I also believe heavily in making music fun and enjoyable and loving our own sound. The types of repertoire we will explore include and are not limited to: solo music, etudes, calisthenics, and duets.

My only expectations - come in with ...

We will find repertoire and work on diving into material, making it personal so the words flow naturally, and really breaking it down and finding the reason the author chose each word. Can also work on audition material.

I'm a graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (Vocal Major), as well as the Hartt School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, where I got my BFA in Musical Theatre, and performing is truly in my blood! My 11 yr old daughter has absolutely loved working with Monica and has shown tremendous improvement over the last few months. If you aren't sure what teacher to choose, give her a try. I think you'll like her too!

Monica has been a wonderful teacher. I appreciate that the experience has been very collaborative. She will teach a technique and ask if it feels right or sounds right to you and to test it out for a week and if that's not working for you well try a different approach, So it's more trial and error than there is one way to sing. And I think having some control and agency over your vocal journey leads to a more confident and positive experience. Lessons with Monica have been very open and fun. I feel like I have progressed at a faster rate in the past 3 months working with her than the past 5 years I have been trying to improve my voice. And I am very curious and excited about how much further I'll grow in the future with Monica's assistance.

I took 5 lessons with Ed, very great instructor. I learned a lot in those few lessons. He helped with with my pitch and with my accent that I had to prepare for an audition. With his help I was accepted into my high school’s A cappella group “Madrigals” and overall I would recommend. We made it work and tried to make the best out of the situation. Great experience:)

My kids thoroughly enjoyed lessons with Ed (both guitar and piano). Lessons started with my 7yo and when his brother turned 4yo, he started as well.

Experienced teacher of 40 years, with a strong background in classical piano. I have been fortunate to have studied with three superb piano teachers throughout my life, and have learned from each how to relate to students and encourage a deeper knowledge of the repertoire, as well as solid practicing and performance technique. I am not intimidating at all and I meet each student where she/he happens to be on the musical journey.

About Will

I'm a professional pianist/ accompanist with over 40 years experience as a teacher and performer. I enjoy helping students progress and increase their ability, as well as their musicianship. If you give time to practicing, the piano will give back much more, and become a rich part of your life.

I have known Will for many years. He is an incredibly talented musician and an excellent teacher. I worked with Will in a number of musical shows and projects in our area and started classical piano with him when I was 30. In a very short period of time, I was playing with confidence and went on to write, record, and release two full-length original pop albums using piano as a main source of instrumentation! Will is highly recommended!
Ellen
Will Duchon is an excellent piano teacher. He not only teaches technique with great clarity, but most importantly, he possesses the wonderful ability to convey a deep sense of musicality to his students. He does this with patience and passion, with a focus on the joy of musical learning rather than simply the pieces themselves. He knows how to balance challenge with fun, while gently encouraging and motivating his students every step of the way. I highly recommend Will without hesitation!

Magic isn't just a mystery or puzzle to be figured out...Its a performing art (actually one of the variety arts) that designed to entertain. But most importantly, it should be FUN: a delight to both learn & master!

What type of magic would you like to perform for your friends & family? Stage or platform magic (sometimes called Parlor or Cabaret)? Mentalism or mind-reading? How about close-up magic (like cards & coins): Is that your thing? No matter what kind of magic we choose to explore, I've got whole library of teaching references & secret resources (all stowed away in my magic room) to share with you.

I'm Jeff, my stage name is "Mr. Jeffo" and I specialize in entertaining children & families with my own brand of magic and storytelling. I've been performing magic as a part-time pro for decades now, starting out with birthday party shows as a teen, and working my way up to performing corporate meetings, school shows, gatherings and special events over the past 15 years.

Jeff has been providing great instruction in a comfortable environment. Each class Jeff is prepared with a list of things we are going to go over, and we review things from the previous week. He will show you how to make or bring props that you may not have and will let you try them out to make sure the trick works for your routine. After each class he has emailed me links to videos that provide alternate explanations as well as some more advanced techniques of things we may not have gone over. For me, in person learning works a lot better than Zoom and Jeff makes the classes both fun and instructional. The 1-1 in person environment he has will really help you excel your abilities. Each class you leave with at least a few tricks that you can start working on immediately. I would highly recommend Jeff!

5 Chess Moves to Up Your Endgame

The end of the game has come. You have successfully out-maneuvered and outfought your opponent, conquering large swaths of the chessboard, and approaching that triumphal moment when you will topple the opponent’s king and declare that he has fallen---in other words, a checkmate (recall that “checkmate” is an anglicization of “shah mat”, Persian for “the king is dead”)… Only to realize that you don’t quite know how to finish the game, which inevitably results in a slapsti …

6 Tips For Improving Your Chess Game

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …

Patternmaking for Beginners: How to Make Your Own Patterns

Patternmaking for most beginners seems mysterious and intimidating. It is a subject a lot of sewists try to avoid. As a professional working in the fashion industry for more than a decade, I had the same fear as many of you. It took lots of trial and perseverance to overcome challenges, and carve out a successful career. The First Step is to Make Mistakes! Many of my students are worried about making mistakes. They want to be sure every step they take is correct. Multiple attempts and fai …
