Hello there!

My name is Mya and I am a very patient instructor and understand that students learn at a different pace, after all everyone is an individual!

I received my degree in Geology from Yangon University in Yangon, Burma in 1993.  After I moved to New York City in 2005, I earned a M.A. (Geology) from The City College of New York in 2010.  I learned crocheting and sewing from my mother.  I also took a bauble, bangle and bead string class, Draping I and II classes, and pattern making I and II classes from Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  

I’ve been teaching private sewing lesson (since 1998), beading and pearl knotting lesson (since 2009), and Burmese language (since 2014) and I have loved helping my students.  
Although trained in standard teaching methods, I developed my own method to fulfill my students’ needs. 

I am looking forward to helping new students to achieve their goals!

I began taking sewing lessons with Mya 9 years ago. We started with the basics, like setting up my machine and making pillowcases, to me designing and sewing my daughter's prom dress two years ago. Since then, I've made garments for myself and my daughters. I would not have accomplished this without Mya. She guides me, answers all my questions, and makes me think of things I hadn't considered. Sewing is fun, but fine craftsmanship comes from understanding the construction of garments and how to cut them with precision. Mya is an expert! Her tips and tricks come to mind when I'm home working on clothes. I'm getting better and better. I FEEL LIKE COCO CHANEL! lol Well what I mean is I feel like a real designer. I recommend her private classes. She is kind and patient and knows what she is doing. The drive-in is scenic. Parking is easy. Her studio is neat and peaceful. She is welcoming and provides value every single minute of each lesson. FIVE STARS FOR MYA!

Granny Square Headband Tutorial - Part 1

Materials
Yarn: 1 ball, 50 gram, Size 2 yarn (Coral) + 1 ball (mint green)

Hook: 3.5mm

Attaching Squares:
-Round 3 is only for attaching squares. Do not cut the yarn after round 2.
Round 3: Ch 1(do not count as 1 sc), sc on the same st, sc on each of next 4 st, ch 1, *get the other granny square/set - sc in each of next 11 st on both squares, ch1*, sc on each of next 11 st, rept from* to *, sc in each of next 6 st, sl st into 1st sc. 
Note:
You will need  7 granny squares (4 mint green + 3 coral) for the head band. 3 coral granny squares have round 3 which you need to attach two granny squares/sets.
I pulled the yarn a little longer than usual for double crochet. : )



How to Crochet a Granny Square Headband.

In this video, you will learn some basic crochet stitches:
ch = chainsl  |
st = slip stitch |
sc = single crochet |
dc = double crochet|

Ch 5, sl st to join a ring.
Round 1:  Ch 3 (count as one dc), dc, (ch 3, 2 dc) 7 times, ch 3, sl st into top of beginning ch 3. (Total 8 2-dc groups and 8 3-ch spaces)
Round 2: Sl st in next 2 st, ch 3 (count as one dc), (3 dc, ch 3, 4 dc) in ch space, sc in next ch space, {(4 dc, ch 3, 4 dc) in next ch space, sc in next ch space}3 , ending with sl st into top of beginning ch 3.
