The chain is where it all begins - the basis to almost all projects in crochet. In this video, you will learn how to start with a slip knot and crochet a chain, how to tell the front and the back of the chain apart, and how to count your chain stitches.

This video is the second in a series of 7 videos demonstrating crochet foundations. In the previous video, you learned how to tie a slip knot. In the next video, you will learn how to make a single crochet.

Crocheting

I learned the basics of crocheting when I was 5 years old and have been crocheting ever since! I taught myself how to accomplish tough stitches, read patterns and diagrams, and even write patterns. I run a small business, Almightyemu Crafts, and participate in local craft shows in the Green Bay and Fox Valley areas. 

Outside of crafting, I work as a learning specialist, developing curriculums and facilitating training for professional development for adults. My passion for teaching/learning and experience at training others means I know that it's normal to "not get it" right away, and sometimes we have to try different ways of learning! 

I love to have fun and laugh, but what makes teaching others uniquely rewarding is watching the "ah-ha!" moment when a learner realizes they're catching on. I can't wait to see your "ah-ha!" moment!

Covers teaching basics, writing a lesson plan, a review of basic stitches, increases and decreases, pattern stitches and crocheting in the round. In addition to a review of their homework assignments and testing by their master teacher, students must complete a minimum of 15 hours of student teaching to receive a basic Certificate of Participation, which qualifies them to teach beginner classes.

I started my own crafting business in 2016. I crochet goods, write crochet patterns, and teach crochet lessons. I also do other crafts, such as Cricut crafts and sewing clothing.

I've been crocheting for 28 years (since I was only 5 years old!) and I want to share my expertise with you! I am Craft Yarn Council certified for teaching level 1 crochet. I am able to help you learn the basics, from chaining and simple crochet stitches to working in the round and increasing/decreasing stitch count. Perhaps you've already learned how to crochet the basics, but want to dive deeper into specialty stitches, texture, and more - I can help you with that, too!

I am happy to work with adults and children, alike. Children are ready to crochet once they can tie their shoes and sit and focus for the desired lesson time. Want to partner up and take a class with a friend? I offer discounted rates for multiple people at once!

I am located just outside of Seymour, WI, near Oneida. We can do lessons in my craft room, via Zoom online, OR I can travel to you for a small fee.

I really enjoyed my lessons with Amanda. She is very patient and explained things in a way that were easy to understand. I learned so much within the first few lessons that I had with her. When you’re done crocheting your project, you’ll need some finishing touches to create a polished piece. In this video, you will learn how to tie a knot at the end of your project, disconnect from your skein of yarn, thread a darning needle, and sew your ends into your work.

Crochet Foundations - Finishing Your Work

The treble crochet is the tallest stitch you’ll learn in this crochet foundations series. This stitch quickly creates an open fabric. In this video, you will learn how to start with a chain, create an appropriately sized turning chain, and crochet a treble crochet stitch. After watching the video, you will be able to recognize the treble crochet stitch, both the front and back, and be able to count your stitches.

Learning the single crochet will enable you to start crocheting basic, rectangular projects. In this video, you will learn how to start with a chain, create an appropriately sized turning chain, and crochet a single crochet stitch. Crochet Fundamentals - the Single Crochet

Crocheting requires you to start with a loop on your hook. The easiest way to start with a loop on your hook is by tying a slip knot. This video will show you three ways to tie a slip knot. Two of these methods use just your hands and the third method uses your crochet hook.

The double crochet, taller than the single crochet, is arguably the most utilized stitch in crochet patterns.
