I can help you learn the beginning concepts of music theory. As a student musician myself, I completely understand the importance of having those basic skills down. Understanding theory is a key skill in being a great musician because it teaches adjustment and tonal foundations. For example, knowing how many sharps are in the key of D Major will save you a lot of time when you have to sight-read or analyze your next piece.

Lessons:
***KEYBOARD on deck for all lessons*** I find that visual tools help with understanding the theory a little bit better.

I offer 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions. It all depends on your needs.

For lessons at my home or in the community center, parents/guardians are welcome to sit in.

Adult beginners are also welcome!

Music is a part of everyone. Yes, that means YOU!

Too many people say they "wish" they knew how to play an instrument, as if it wasn't up to them. As if those skills fell out of the sky and landed on people luckier than them. Well they don't.

The ability to play is a skill that YOU CAN LEARN. Music Theory is knowledge that YOU CAN LEARN. You want to learn these things, and I want to help you!

I've taught private and group piano classes in San Diego for 2 years, and it truly has become my passion. I'm constantly looking for more opportunities to grow and spread the joy of music to those who seek it.

My ultimate goal as an instructor is to inspire confidence and provide my students with the foundational tools necessary to be musicians in their own right. I want to leave you with the drive, curiosity, and tools to continue learning on your own, if and when our relationship comes to an end.

Lets get started! I look forward to meeting you!

About Perry

A little about me: I grew up in Portland Oregon and attended Oregon State University, majoring in Economics with a minor in Music. I moved down to San Diego in 2017 seeking a change in scenery. I absolutely love it down here, and have been fortunate to surround myself with great people. For two

"My deepest gratitudes to Serena for developing me into a singer who is confident in her ability to sing healthily and happily. It was truly a gift to learn from such a patient, kind, and successful artist for 5 years, and to absorb some of the knowledge she has collected throughout her growing Opera career. Not only does she teach all vocal styles and can prepare her students for any vocal musical event, but she teaches the inner anatomnical workings of the voice and the proper techniques to sing efficiently and healthily. A bit of preparation and practice goes a long way with her thorough and lively teaching style. She is truly an outstanding teacher, a brilliant singer, and a lovely person."

"John's biggest strengths are his patience, understanding and seeming endless facility with music. I read music but not fast enough to allow me to play good pieces, so John translates everything into physical movements. This makes it very easy to play interesting music, which makes me want to play more. I think he has shown me how learn, how to refine things so they are satisfying. I highly recommend him as a teacher, for beginners or advanced."
