In my one hour of comprehensive teaching, students learn extensively the techniques of the violin, including tone production, vibrato, musicality and pieces of music which are chosen from standard violin literature or Suzuki books. The whole idea is to get students to look at the whole learning process as a fun activity, and very soon they acquire the ability to produce beautiful sounds, correct intonation and strong vibrato. In addition to the above, I conduct some some ear-training exercises to improve intonation as well.

Nader was fantastic! I took Violin lessons for a few years from a couple different teachers, and he taught me new, interesting things I'd never learned before. He's also very patient and nice.

He is very patient and has excellent communication skills. I have no knowledge of how to play the violin or music of any kind. After my first lesson I strongly feel he will be my private instructor for many years to come. I left with proper technique of how this instrument is to be cared for and good posture when practicing. He also informed me of the books we will be incorporating into my lessons. Most importantly homework is given and he is very patient and explains everything at your level.

I was very pleased with my first lesson with Nader. He is very kind and patient. We covered some basic points with what we'll be covering for my lessons with the cello. His instructions and explanations of technique is very clear I feel my lessons with him will be very beneficial and enjoyable.

I have worked with Lauren for over a year now. I have found that Lauren is very patient and is willing to work with you to reach your goals and not just the goals of a book. Lauren works with you on a one on one basis to help you get where you want to go. Lauren is extremely knowledgable and always ready with a challenge to help you progress.

I just completed my first lesson with Lauren. I was hesitant as to how it would go because I know nothing about the violin or how to hold the bow. With that said, even though it has only been one lesson, I have complete confidence that Lauren will help me reach the goals I am looking to achieve. She has a wonderful calmness that makes you feel relaxed and competent.

I believe in developing students’ full potential step by step, as a mentor, to inspire them to foresee a higher vision. To me, every student is an expert learner without limitations. Tailored to each student’s learning progress and needs, my lessons include practice tasks based on pedagogical principles from both the traditional approach and the Suzuki method. My top priorities in teaching include good posture and confidence to perform. I emphasize the importance of aural development by listening to recordings carefully to recognize fundamentals, such as tunes and rhythms, as well as more detailed aspects, such as articulations and tone quality. I also focus on performance practices and interpretations of each musical composition. Overall, I see every lesson as a lesson in life, equipping my students to face challenges with practicable strategies for understanding personal skills, such as patience, determination, consistency, focus, self-motivation, memory, logic, self-awareness with ...

As soon as the lesson began Mr. Ming-hang jumped right in and started to go over all of the important information a beginner like myself needed to start learning the violin efficiently. I have been Mr. Tam's student for a little bit over a month now and I have to say he is one of the best, if not the best, teachers that I have ever had. I am a high schooler, and I had been playing the violin for a long time by the time I started taking lessons with Mr. Tam. He wasted no time in beginning the lessons. We started off basically where I had ended with my old teacher, with advanced scales and a piece of my choosing. Throughout the weeks, he follows up by sending me an email asking if I had any questions for him before the next session the following week. He records every session and sends them to me so that I can review my mistakes and listen to the tips that he suggests. Overall, he is an amazing violinist and teacher. He has a great sense of humor and is knowledgeable in the world of classical music. He will explain things thoroughly if you do not understand and seems to take great joy in his profession.
Roxxana
The instructor is very attentive to skills and needs. He is patient and passionate as about teaching the violin. He explains things in an easy to understand manner. He was very enthusiastic about my improvement and stated how happy he was to see improvement. He is knowledgeable about his craft and comes off as a friendly and likable instructor.

Lessons are fun. My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime.

After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing multiple songs.

About Betsy

Music is the biggest passion in my life. I love being able to share that gift with my students, and look forward to their progress as much as my own. I continue to grow and develop as a musician, and love connecting with people through music. My students all learn to love and appreciate music, th

"Elizabeth is an artist at heart. She's very patient and kind. I highly recommend her!

I came to Elizabeth as an adult student with a few years of experience in playing, but with a lot of doubts about whether I could advance. I'd previously taken lessons at the Music Institute of Chicago (Evanston campus), but I didn't like how they did things over there. They are extremely overpriced for what they offer. In my first lesson there, my teacher wouldn't even let me pick up the bow and she made me play Twinkle Twinkle over and over again...

Elizabeth made playing very relaxing. Her approach is just to attack the material without any hesitations. And if you make a mistake, just do it again. She let me pick out the repertoire, which made me excited to play, and offered great recommendations on material that would help my playing. Sometimes I was too ambitious and she'd be the first to point out that maybe I wasn't ready for a piece just yet. Then she'd recommend something else that would help me get there.

Elizabeth teaches from her home and it's pretty easy to get to by train, bus, or car."

Violin Lessons Near You

The violin has a long history in the music world. Its early ancestors from the 15th century are thought to be the Arabian rabab and the rebec. But toward the end of the Middle Ages, the fiddle came on the scene. Nowadays, we refer to the violin and fiddle as the same instrument—the only difference is in the style of music you play. You call it a fiddle when you play fiddle music, like Irish jigs and Scottish tunes, and it’s a violin when you play more classical styles of music.

Have you always dreamed of playing classical violin music in a chamber orchestra or fiddling solos in a country band? If so, it’s time to make those music dreams come to life. Here at TakeLessons, we feature the best violin lessons for students of all skill levels and interests. With the help of our certif

Reasons to Take Violin Classes Near You

There are lots of convincing reasons to learn the violin. For starters, you can experiment with all your favorite music, whether that’s classical tunes or top 40 hits. But learning to play the violin also provides you with a creative outlet. You can express yourself through music, letting out your emotions, frustration, and stress. In fact, many experts believe learning to play an instrument can stimulate the brain, improving your cognitive skills and memory.

When you take violin lessons, you will also begin to build your confidence. Not only will you see yourself accomplishing your dreams and surpassing your goals, but you’ll find yourself engaging with like-minded musicians. Perhaps you’ll feel inspired to join an orchestra, try out for a theater production, or form a pop band. As you improve your violin skills, there’s no stopping what you can achieve!

Topics You'll Learn with Your Violin Teacher

The topics you will cover during your violin lessons will vary on a number of factors. For example, if you’re a beginner, you’ll need help with the basics. Your violin tutor will likely focus on building a foundation on which you can build your skills, such as teaching you how to hold the instrument and the finger positions for each note. But if you’re a more advanced musician, your violin instructor will assess your skill sets and challenge you in new ways.

When you take private violin lessons, you will have a violin instructor dedicated to your success. Through one-on-one coaching, you receive the individualized instruction you need to achieve your musical goals. If you’re a beginner, you’ll need help with the basics. But if you’re a more advanced musician, your violin instructor will assess your skill sets and challenge you in new ways.

Perhaps one of the best aspects of taking private violin lessons is that your tutor will cater your lesson plans to your needs and goals. Your violin teacher will determine where you are in your musical journey and create customized lessons just for you. During these sessions, you can go at your own pace, ask all your questions, and even focus on certain techniques or styles that most interest you. When you follow your teacher’s instructions and advice, you’ll find your music skills improving before you know it.
