New 6 Month and One Year Courses Taught: 1. Radio Introduction Personality Broadcasting. 2. Guitar Studies Advanced 3. Music Industry 4. Advanced Composition 5. Sound Design 6. Abelton LIVE 7. Premix Setup and Post Production
8. PR and Promotions Business
Background:
I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention! ) I have played in bands from Hollywood to Toronto and back both as a singer songwriter and guitarist. I bring the Musicians Institute way to the table and get things up and ru
nning quickly. I help students get it under their fingers fast and get it right the first time.

I believe in sharing the happiness of making music with anyone who loves music and the guitar in particular. I do my very best to get you playing the songs you love in Pop, Rock, Jazz and Folk Music of your choice. Today's modern new guitars are easy to play and you will enjoy learning Guitar right away. That is how it should be.
When you study there is a basic understanding of Guitar to be learned that allows an ease of use for anyone for years to come. This will help you reach your goal and improve each week. My students learn to practice in a way that feels comfortable and makes sense. This takes all the stress out of learning and gives everyone something to smile about and look forward to each week.

The good feeling of playing along with friends and taking a solo is within every students grasp. I will show you the way there. And with a solid and straightforward approach to the theory as it applies directly to the guitar you will feel confident and unafraid of any music endeavor. We'll cover harmony and fingerboard theory and give you a road map of the guitar neck that makes it a pleasure to play. You learn the basics and much more than you thought possible retaining 90 percent of what you learn!

Having been a student myself I was deeply involved in music since age 12 and played in bands and duos for over 15 years . I can help you to be a well rounded player and performer with a smile, a laugh and a joy for music whether your in a band or a budding solo artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
Most students want to play the Guitar to play their favorite songs and I'm the same way. Music is something we carry with us in our hearts and minds. Students will learn what they wish to learn and work at a pace that is comfortable to them. Whether you are a student, “weekend warrior” or a parent whose child has expressed an interest in Guitar anyone can learn all there is to know about Harmony and Theory for the Guitar and how to play their favorite songs.

We cover theory in an easy and straightforward no nonsense way in the first half of each lesson and then apply it to the song you wish to learn. This creates an atmosphere where you understand and feel at home with the Guitar. You get an understanding right away and because it is immediately fun it allows you to feel comfortable at any level. Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music.
After 6 months students will have a solid foundation in theory, and a road map of the guitar fretboard enabling them to advance to an intermediate level if they are ready to do so. Students will know enough that music as it relates to the Guitar, which is the world’s most popular instrument in contemporary music, is not a mystery but is a welcome friend. And they will be able to play songs by popular artists and advance at a pace that is satisfying and enjoyable.

"James is my husband for over 10 years now. Over the years, I have seen James give guidance and counsel to many hopeful musicians of all ages, and inspire others about how music influences and benefits our lives. I would highly recommend James to anyone who wants to learn guitar, voice, music theory, and acting. James is a great talent, and study with him would benefit anyone with the sincere desire to grow as an artist. James is a very caring teacher who took the time to get to know my strengths and weaknesses. He has many years of experience in this field and it shows in his lessons.

Thank you James for the training, I grew as a improv student from the time I worked with you. I utilized this class as a test for my profession (business) and am grateful that I selected you as a mentor/teacher. I am happy with the results and may be knocking on your door again down the road. Stay tuned.

About Jordin
Hi, my name is Jordin and I am an art student at the University of North Texas. My major is New Media art where I use video and other technologies to create pieces of art. I chose this major because I want to work in stop motion film and make my own drawings and characters I sculpt come to life. I primarily started drawing since I could hold a crayon and I have been working in all fields of art ever since! I love painting, sculpting, and even anime/manga!
I have taught at art studios and non-profit organizations, but I have found private lessons is my favorite way to get by during college because I love meeting amazing people and inspiring others to make art. I believe in learning the basics and key concepts/definitions in art when beginning, and then using those learned skills to create wonderful expressions of art. Don't be shy or
worried about your level of art, and I hope I can teach you the skills you need to enjoy yourself while making art!

I believe in the power of art to change lives. I have been working as a professional artist for several decades and I love what I do. My work ranges from murals to intimate portraiture. My resume includes National Endowment for the Arts funded public art projects, solo exhibitions and museum shows. My drawings, paintings and mixed media works are found in both private and corporate collections.

I enjoy how the act of art-making improves lives. If a certain subject matter moves you, then we will begin there. I emphasize craftsmanship and solid technique. My work leans towards realism. If you are interested in learning anatomy for artists, still life, landscape and generally working from life, then I would be a good fit.

My lessons take place in my studio. I have been teaching for over a decade and enjoy watching my students develo

I am so fortunate to have Boris as my art class teacher! Starting from December 2018, by now I have attended about 20 x 2+ hours of private lessons held in his studio and love going there on weekends. Within few sessions I learned that Boris has excellent educational background and proven life-long miscellaneous art experiences backed up with striking masterpieces - his own art creations.

Boris undoubtedly is a marvelous teacher and educator for those students who want to go beyond mechanistic approaches to the drawing and painting, willing expand their ways to ‘perceive’ the visual art. Boris has unique talent to deliver information and instructions in a concise and clear manner aided with his unlimited patience and politeness. Self-trained hobbyist in watercolor, I never took formal classes before; being engineer by trade, was a bit uncertain if we can get along smoothly due to big gaps on my side. That doubt disappeared after just couple of our meetings. Boris has adapted to my needs well above my expectations by giving just right amount of elements of classical academic disciplines - which I personally was looking for - such as perspective, composition, light and color, forms, constructional drawing.

My initial interest was to work in acrylic for landscape painting from photographs on a medium sized canvas. Boris’ suggestion to start with still life painting (completed as the very first project) was a saver for the ongoing mountain depiction project, relatively complex. I am gladly satisfied with his guidance, solution proposals, and corrections – I like the friendly atmosphere in his studio and "behind-the-scene" explanations why he thinks this or that could be made more professional. My painting perception is also growing because of art history studies I do at home following talks and lectures Boris gives during our classes; I like to review and study illustrations in books and online materials that he recommends – now I know much more about famous artists and major directions in visual art and art advances throughout the centuries.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder to advanced, really experienced artist, is a stirring feeling and thanks to Boris’ soft skills, I can tell I am respected and taken care of. During 2019 spring break I brought my 15yo son for 4 master class sessions at Boris studio, and they have finished a pretty looking painting on 18x24 inch canvas in acrylic on an extraterrestrial planet theme; which has significantly promoted my son’s interests both in art and astronomy. My son enjoyed talking to teacher, our time was worthy spent on ‘painting bootcamp’.

Boris gives memorable, highly narrative hands-on sessions on color blocking, shading, underpainting, color mixing, value and tone balance solutions, one-line drawing, composition, and many more. I feel I am back to a good school where I do acquire my new painting skills at a rate I can control.

I strongly recommend Boris to both kids and adults.

I am taking Boris’s classes for more than 4 years and am more than happy with my progress. Boris is an amazing teacher and a very talented artist with lots of experience and knowledge of art history. He helped me work on my creativity, master different techniques, explore various mediums and challenge myself. I took group and individual classes and both formats worked fine. I am always looking forward to my art classes with Boris as I learn something new and they are never boring.

I am a professor with seventeen years worth of experience in teaching various subjects for a multitude of students. I've taught subjects such as creative writing, commercial law, ancient civilization, ancient and transitional Latin and Greek, as well as Graphic Design, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Federal and Commercial Building Compliance and Law, et cetera. To put it bluntly, there's very little I cannot teach.

I've taught GED classes and courses for the State of Michigan and the Northeast Penitentiary system for seven years as well, which has been some of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.

I believe that everyone can learn. All it takes is that student to professor connection and knowing what type of learner the student is. I don't believe in a "one shoe fits all" type of teaching style.
My students are unique, with different ways of looking at problems and different ways of coming to their own conclusions and solutions.

Mr. K taught was amazing. He taught the GED in Michigan a few years ago. The moment I walked into his classroom, it was just one and one. He didn't treat me like all the other teachers. He actually cared and it showed. But man, is he hard! I didn't think I would get homework after the first class, but I was seriously wrong. But over the next two months, he grilled me and grilled me until I wanted to scream. But when I took the GED and was scored, I aced it! Just to warn yall though, he's not an easy teacher. And he doesn't put up with excuses. But when he gives you his attention, its all of it.

He even went waaaay beyond the call of duty and helped me get into college at Lansing Community College. He walked me through the application, even drove and met me at LCC, and sat with me when we talked to the reps. He even helped me look for scholarships and gave me advise on financial aid! This guy is a saint!
