About Eric
For almost 25 years, I've had the privilege to have worked with thousands of performers who study with me from all over the world. I teach in-studio at my two locations in Houston and in The Woodlands, Texas. I also work with students who come to me from all over the globe via online over-the-web Skype lessons.

Originally from Detroit, I enjoyed being a "Jack of all styles" singer/musician for over 15 years. I was a professional musician performing Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Gospel, Musical Theater, Commercial and Studio work, along with being very involved in Contemporary Christian music. While I very much loved to perform, I found myself drawn much more to the joy of teaching. Vocal instruction and improvisational piano teaching eventually became my passion, and so I've poured my time and energies into teaching singers and players t
o become, well… better musicians!

I have been singing in Choirs and Bands for a number of years and learned more about my voice and singing properly in a 45 minute session with Eric than I have in all my years of performing. I now understand why I have been struggling to sing in my upper register and Eric has put together a personalized program to help me develop my voice and gain back my vocal range. Eric has a great sense of humor and made the session very enjoyable as well as informative. I look forward to my next session and would highly recommend Eric as an instructor.

Eric has coached me for more than two years. Each lesson was personalized and has helped me to improve gradually. As I could download the recording of the lesson, I was able to practice between lessons. Eric has been very supportive and was very open to my unique music taste. I really feel comfortable now singing thanks to him.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha DGX-650 weighted 88 keys full sized keyboard
area for parents to sit and observe lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Main area is in classical music and media scoring with secondary focus on musical theatre vocal performance and composing/arranging.

About Stan
Hi! I am a private music instructor offering lessons both in-studio and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music, where I graduated Summa cum Laude, and I have over 36 years' full-time experience as an instructor.

I also have over four decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages to churches, as well as television studios, radio stations, and many recording studios.

Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.

**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****

My teaching style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and results.

I don't work with “one-size-fits-all” methods. Ea
ch lesson is customized to make the most of each student's own unique abilities, limitations, preferences, and interests. Whether students prefer, or do better with, traditional materials, playing/singing along with their favorite recordings, improvisation, or anything in between, I am more than happy to accommodate and bring out each student’s best!

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on the Beatles One album ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.

**** MY STUDIO ****

My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummers going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.

**** STYLES / GENRES ****

I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.

My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged!

**** MY STUDENTS ****

Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.

Do you have a song or two in your heart? Contact me today and I will help you reach your musical goals and have a very good time doing it!

Becoming a teacher is a special honor. As a teacher, sharing knowledge becomes an important part of life; not because you have to, but because you want to. I feel that I have great qualities that will enable me to be successful in this field. I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree, and an Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance. I want to teach because I want to make a difference. I want to spark students’ interests; I want to challenge students to discover new things about themselves that they may not have otherwise known. I want to impart my fascination about music and love for singing with my students, so they too can enjoy a life filled with the arts and come to appreciate it on a whole new level. I strongly believe that when you love to do something, it shows, and because I am so passionate about music, my teaching will be that much mo
re effective; I believe music will help make each individual a well-rounded human being and ready to face the challenges of everyday life.

Katie is fabulous to work with. She was very positive and encouraging as well as insightful with tips for dealing with nerves during the audition. Her approach includes technical tips which she introduces in a very hands on, experiential way that my 12 yr old with no vocal training could understand. My daughter felt more confident going in to audition after working with Katie.

Adam Gaines is a godsend. I was really lucky to have his guidance over the years which helped my craft and dedication to the art of writing greatly. He is a proven writer with legitimate credits but also, he actually cares. He is always ready to help and takes your material seriously which is most important when you want honest feedback and guidance. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of films, screenwriting, and the industry that is both impressive and beneficial. He is a wonderful friend and mentor who will always have a great recommendation or suggestion ready for your work and/or career. Adam is an extremely open individual with an immense passion for film and the craft of screenwriting which becomes infectious. That trait is crucial since it keeps you driven to keep learning and grow. He is also an excellent conversationalist with his own voice which is truly refreshing. Highly recommend.

About Justin
My passion for magic actually evolved from an interest in theater and acting. This was a natural transition for me, since doing magic is so much more more than just sleight-of-hand. When I was 14 years old, I attended a convention for high school theater students. One of the classes at the convention was titled "How Magic Can Improve Your Acting." I was intrigued, so I attended the workshop. The magician that was there amazed me, and I left with a resolution that someday I would do magic like he did. That is only half the story though...

A good friend of mine was also interested in magic, and after he showed me some very impressive tricks, I asked for his help. He stayed true to the magician's code, and instead of teaching me his secrets, he taught me how to figure magic tricks out. That skill, along with 10+ years of practice has brough
t me to where I am today. I've now performed all over the country, doing both solo and group performances with other magicians. I've now decided to settle down in Houston Texas, and I'm ready to bring some magic to H-town.

About Ophelie
I am a professional stage director, who has worked in Germany, England and the across United States. I have worked with singers as well as actors, as a teacher, assistant director and director.

I graduated as an Associate of King’s College London with a degree in Philosophy and significant experience acting and directing for independent theater companies in London.

I then went on to work as an assistant director in major German opera houses, where I learned how to apply the same teaching and dierecting methods with singers.

At only 23 I was offered the Juilliard Opera Directing Fellowship - and I was the first person, to whom it was offered two years in a row. At Juilliard, I mostly worked with the few selected Postgraduate students.

I have considered accepting an adjunct teaching position, but chose to go on directing and teaching pr

“I cannot recommend Ophelia Wolf any higher as an acting coach and stage director. I worked with her privately on staging all of my audition arias. Her genius is connecting your unique story to the character. She knows intuitively how to break down emotional/body tension to free up performance and discover your truth. She has a flexible formula for analyzing characters and making them immediately personal to you.
As a German native speaker, she prepared me for all of my audition trips to Germany. With her guidance in perfecting diction and conversational style, I gave a confident tour. I also sought out her method when giving a series of masterclasses on how to interpret characters.
We worked together right before my first audition for the Met, and I got the job! You’ll love working with this director who has experience working with the greatest opera houses in the world."
