Module 3 focuses on symbiotic relationships in Coral Town - mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism.

Students will learn about how organisms on a coral reef interact with each other via relationships such as mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism, and how these relationships work to keep the ecosystem in balance. These concepts will be further explored through a matching/sorting game and a STEM challenge.

In Module 10 we celebrate Coral Town and its restored balance.

Students will review the key issues facing coral reefs worldwide as well as the potential solutions for each. To make it more relevant, students will engage in a simulated coral restoration game and will
recreate themselves as a coral superhero to help save the reef.

Coral Town - Module 10 - Saving Coral Town

Solve the mystery of Mayor Meg's disappearance in Module 9 as we discuss the state of our ocean's fisheries.

Students will learn about the effects of overfishing through an interactive mystery solving activity and a role playing simulation game. By touching on the problem of the tragedy of the commons and highlighting consumer demand for seafood and improving technology, students will brainstorm ideas to solve this global issue.

Coral Town - Module 9 - One Fish, Two Fish, Uh Oh! No Fish!

Plastic pollution is the focus of Module 8, but we'll work together to find solutions for this global problem.

Students will learn about the scope and consequences of plastic pollution in our oceans, and will be
introduced to some product alternatives, making their own reusable bag from an upcycled t-shirt. To help
spread the message, students will create their own public service announcement through a poem, skit, rap, or
song.

Coral Town - Module 8 - Plastic in Paradise

Module 7 introduces the concept of ocean acidification as we continue learning about threats to coral reefs.

Students will learn about continued effects of global climate change on our oceans, focusing on the changing
water chemistry resulting from excessive carbon dioxide absorption and sequestration. To further understand
the nature of our changing oceans, students will engage in two water chemistry experiments and play a familiar game with a new twist.

Coral Town - Module 7 - Dissolve It LIke It's Hot

In Module 6 we learn how the reef can become unbalanced and unhealthy as we explore the threat of coral bleaching.

Students will learn about the threat of warming oceans on coral reef ecosystems, and some of the consequences that result from it. The concept of coral bleaching will be explored through role play and research simulation, and potential solutions will be discussed.

Coral Town - Module 6 - Trouble in Coral Town

Module 5 celebrates the biodiversity on the reef and introduces two new Coral Town residents - seahorses and nudibranchs.

Students will celebrate the world of Coral Town that has been created together through characters, storytelling, role play, and engaging activities. Two new reef residents will be introduced, and students will name nudibranchs, race to collect food for their seahorse bellies, and build a model seahorse tail. To experience what it would be like to swim next to a real coral reef, students can use virtual reality viewfinders to “dive in”. Students will also help to assemble their own version of Coral Town - a three dimensional art piece to be displayed at their school, after school location, or camp.

Coral Town - Module 5 - Coral Town Carnival

Module 4 is all about how animals communicate on a reef - to warn about a nearby predator, to find food or a friend, or to get another message across.

Students will learn about the ways in which animals on or around a reef may communicate. The lesson will
focus on color changing for the first half, incorporating concepts into two communication games, and for the
second half will focus on sound through two STEM-based sound matching activities.
