You might have hired a tutor that expected your student to memorize a list of sight words. That's not me. I love structured literacy and explicit instruction because when you teach students phonics and the alphabetic code, they don't have to guess on the page. This also helps me use data and my assessments to understand where your child is at in their reading development and if they need more practice in CVC words to be able to decode a multisyllabic word.

Hello, I'm Mrs. Deanna, a dedicated homeschool educator and tutor. As a Multiply Neurodivergent Adult (Gifted, Dyslexic, and ADHD), I understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with neurodiversity. Despite my own learning differences, I mastered reading through phonics in 1998 and have since completed structured literacy training to teach my own children successfully.

I graduated high school with honors, won multiple writing contests, and am a self-published author of two books: "The Imperfect Advocate" and "Astronomical Learning." Having personally navigated literacy and math challenges within my family, I'm passionate about helping others develop the essential skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

I am committed to supporting real people in learning valuable skills and achieving their educational goals. I offer tutoring sessions through the TakeLessons platform using Google Meet, providing a convenient and effective online learning experience.

Welcome to K-5th grade Reading Class where we will explore the depths of reading, spelling, and writing with a focus on decoding and encoding using Structured Literacy. 

In this class, students will acquire essential skills that enable them to read accurately and fluently. I utilize a technology rich and multi-sensory approach that is used to improve literacy outcomes for students.

Students will learn various strategies to help them decode words, comprehend sentences and paragraphs while simultaneously building upon their phonological awareness skills. 

The goal is not only to develop reading proficiency but also to instill a love for literature in our students.

I tell my students if you can read it, you can write it! 

Reading & Writing is a reciprocal relationship in education. Vocabulary & Spelling. Vocabulary & Comprehension. Background knowledge & Context. 

All of the goals that we look for in a student that has mastered reading are the reciprocal relationship of what we look for in a student that has mastered writing and reading comprehension. 

My goal is to provide a supportive environment where your child feels confident asking questions or seeking clarification when needed. I want to encourage parents/guardians to support their children's learning by reading and writing with each other each week.

Neuroscience research has found no evidence that matching instruction to preferred styles improves learning. Teachers and tutors can spread misinformation about the brain that leads to false conclusions. You can have a preference for how you like to learn. Yet claiming to only learn through one mode such as visual or auditory is unhelpful. Humans use 100% of the entire brain to learn something new. Neurons in different parts of the brain communicate with each other. Help share this information and help debunk this neuromyth of Learning Styles.
