Max S.

West Hartford, CT

About Max

I am a performing musician who is passionate about helping students achieve their goals. My lessons focus on developing technique, practice strategies, a good sound, aural skills, music theory knowledge, and stylistic fluency.

I currently perform over fifty concerts a year with the Asylum Quartet, an award-winning ensemble acclaimed for virtuosity, creativity, and innovation. I have also performed with the Juilliard Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and International Opera Theater. I hold a Master's in Music from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Arizona St
ate University (ASU).

I have eight years of private teaching experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds. Additionally, I completed a ten-week private teaching mentorship at the Hartt Community Division with saxophone instructor Sheri Brown.

Though I specialize in saxophone, I also love teaching beginning and intermediate piano.

*** Lesson Scheduling***

I offer lessons on a monthly basis (4 lessons total) or semester basis (17 lessons total). Committing to multiple lessons encourages students’ progress and dedication to the instrument, and enables me to reserve a regular time-slot in my schedule.

I do not accept students on a week-to-week basis.

***Lesson Materials***

Saxophone students must have an instrument in good repair and required accessories (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.). Piano students must have access to a tuned piano or a keyboard with touch-sensitivity. I am happy to recommend instrument and accessory brands; please check with me before a major purchase. Quality, working equipment is critical to students’ success.

I periodically request that students purchase books and other lesson materials.

IMPORTANT: If you are planning to buy a saxophone or mouthpiece, please consult with me first. Having a good quality saxophone and mouthpiece is essential to your success. There are a number of cheap saxophones and mouthpieces readily available, but they are often of poor quality. I can recommend options for your first saxophone or mouthpiece purchase that may be more expensive, but will help you succeed in the long term.

Steve K.

Ellington, CT

About Steve

I am a Musical Director who has scored original music for many motion pictures and television and was musical arranger for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I've scored and arranged original music for several television shows including, Desperate Housewives, MTV's Making the Band, It's Showtime at the Apollo and numerous series on PBS, A & E and Disney, . I have also served as on-set vocal and piano coach for many Disney TV series.

As a piano instructor, I believe in giving every student a foundation in classical music.. I enjoy teaching and playing Jazz and pop as well.

I've worked with
students ages 5-90. I simply love the teaching process and respect every student's journey. Mixing structure and discipline with a positive teaching style, I work to inspire students to be their best within a well structured curriculum that is fun and engaging.

Music must be fun...always!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students see progress. I don't believe in cookie-cutter instruction. I take the time to learn a students individual comprehension of the musical language and their learning style. I also build a practice schedule that is realistic and creates growth. Music instruction should not feel like a burden, but should be joyful. It's a process I have respected. Whether you are 90 or 9, you can learn music, love music and feel its presence by playing an instrument or singing. My job is to communicate that joy and show you how you can do it for yourself.

Learning to master a musical instrument is a two way commitment and I will always give you my full effort as I love the results.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a digital upright piano for piano and vocal instruction.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide the lesson material and help students with purchasing the right method books.

*** Specialties ***
For beginning Piano-Intermediate, I have embraced the James Bastien series, as I believe it paces the young student and builds a foundation on a musical and pedagogical level.
Vocally, I follow a classical technique, but use that foundation as a basis to meet the goals of the singer for the style they want to achieve.

1st lesson ever for my 14-yr old son and it went great! Steve did a great job checking in a couple days prior to confirm a few details and sent great directions - he's in the newer part of his neighborhood so the aerial pic he sent was more up to date than the map on our phones, that helped a lot.

Jason L.

South Windsor, CT

About Jason

I provide private music lessons for guitar, bass, saxophone, music theory and songwriting. I have been teaching for over seven years. I combine my passion for teaching and music business expertise to help students achieve their goals. There are many lesson options available including at my studio in Bristol CT, online or at your location. I work with all of my students and parents to create customized teaching plans based on students learning styles, interests and goals. I am available to students outside of lesson time 7 days a week. I provide performance, writing, purchase and music recommen
dations and take an active interest in each of my students learning. Lesson times are exactly as stated. I allow extra time in between students so as to ensure no overlaps and everyone gets their allotted time.

I try to develop versatility and well rounded musicians no matter the skill or age level. Each student attends lessons for different reasons.Students are encouraged to explore all genres of music and I believe in exposing them to a wide variety of styles and methods. I also encourage students, if interested to write original material. There are no restrictions when it comes to music and I incorporate both old school and contemporary methods into my teaching. Students will learn first hand how what they are learning applies to the real world, including song performance from their favorite artists. I strongly encourage all students to develop an individual personal sense of style when it comes to music performance.

Performance anxiety has always prevented me from following through with lessons. Jason has been very patient and encouraging and I have been able to break through to a new level in just a few weeks. The pace he has set for me is perfect-challenging without being overwhelming.

I am a bassist of 30 years that decided to jump to classical guitar. Bob has been able to "get through" to me and help me really learn the instrument. I have been exceptionally pleased with how he has worked with me and this keeps me coming back. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn guitar.

I'm a middle aged guy who decided he wanted to take guitar lessons about 3.5 years ago and I haven't looked back. I started out with Bob right from the start, as a beginner and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Learning to play guitar has been a significant addition to my life and Bob's style of teaching and demeanor has been a big part of that. Bob is happy to take you in any direction you want. If you just want to learn to play tab, that's ok. If you want to read music and learn some theory, he has you covered. Whether you are an outright beginner or someone with a lot of musical/guitar background, Bob has the patience and skill to take you to whatever level of playing you want to go.

Mr. P was my teacher when I was in elementary school. I remember all the times I requested to learn a song I heard on the radio or a song for a talent show, Mr. P will do his very best and help me make it perfect. I loved to have him as my teacher. He was always kind and also understanding. He taught me how to play various songs by memory. I can honestly say that I haven't played the guitar for quite some time but I can still pick it up and play the songs he taught me like Margaritaville, Smoke on the Water, and Cheese Burger in Paradise. I think that he is the best guitar teacher.
