About Michael

Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!

In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!

*** Lesson Details ***
We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us f

eel successful. All technique is based on real music. Learning scales, keys and music theory become part of the music. By the end of 6 months, we will have a "repertoire" of several songs that express our best self!

About Miles

Miles McAllister is a Southern California-based performer and educator. He is principal trumpet of the Long Beach Symphony and 3rd trumpet of the Santa Barbara Symphony. He is a member of the nationally and internationally touring brass quintet Presidio Brass (presidiobrass.com) and member of the Disneyland Band at the Disneyland Resort. Miles is an active freelance performer and has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Pacific Chorale, Pageant of the Masters, Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Symphony and Pops, New West Symphony, California Philharmonic, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, Riverside Philharmonic, Golden State Pops Orchestra, San Bernardino Symphony, Pacific Brass Ensemble, and many other groups throughout Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, and the Inland Empire.

He can be heard on Star Wars: Rogue O

ne, Star Trek: Discovery, American Dad and True Believers: The Stan Lee Story. From 2011-2013, he played lead trumpet for Carnival Cruise Lines in numerous showbands performing in their full-scale production shows and live variety sets. He appeared as a soloist with the Redlands Symphony where he performed the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto and at the Redlands Bowl Festival performing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. He has also performed with Mannheim Steamroller, Chris Botti, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

He earned his Master of Music in Trumpet Performance at California State University Fullerton in 2015 and graduated from the University of Redlands in 2011 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance.

As an educator, Miles is energetic and keeps lessons positive, varied, and always with a goal in mind. There is a constant emphasis on building fundamentals and using those as a foundation for making great music. Not everyone learns the same way so it is his aim to be adaptable to the student's needs to help them understand and process the concepts behind good trumpet playing. He has taught all ages and skill levels, privately and in group settings, and can be a valuable asset in helping you achieve your musical pursuits. Three of his recent students have been placed as the principal trumpet in the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and one was placed in the Claremont Intermezzo Youth Orchestra. He has also had students go on to earn generous music scholarships for college at well-respected institutions.

Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.

As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

About Amanda

I have been a professional performance coach for the last 15 years. I have trained students ages 3-16 to find their true vocal, acting and musical potential. I provide a very personalized lesson plan for each student, with appropriate warm ups, expert repertoire selection from both current and classic Broadway Shows, and handpicked audition cuts. I trained as an educator of theater with Kids On Stage in Los Angeles after receiving my BA in Musical Theater. With the Atlanta School of the Performing Arts, I mentored children ages 3-16 in their performances at Walt Disney World, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Bahamas on Royal Caribbean. My students have landed lead roles in musicals like Annie and Shrek. My husband and I run the performance company, K&A Theatricals, which is committed to producing cabarets, musicals, and cutting edge dra

mas. We share the stage with our students and give them the chance to shine with us and learn from us how to be professional performers.

My students have gone on to Broadway and enjoyed careers on TV. One of my students just starred as Matilda in the National Tour.

About Elizabeth

I have taught flute to children and adults for about 20 years. During that time, I have continued to develop as a flutist by taking my own lessons with professional symphony players and by playing principal flute in a community orchestra. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement and applauding my students as they make strides. You may find my profile on Linked in, and Elizabeth Pickens, flute instructor on Facebook. I also have a website fluteteacher.net which I encourage you to visit.

As an adult student I appreciate Elizabeth's attention to so much more than just the notes on a page. She is a terrific encourager, and an especially good problem solver for people like me who have a stream of questions about the instrument, its place in music and history, and music theory. I recommend her for students who are beginning as youngsters and for others who choose to learn to play the flute at any stage in life because she believes that music enhances life.

About Bethany

Hello! My name is Bethany. I have been studying horn for almost 20 years and have been teaching for almost 10. I am currently located in Simi Valley, CA, a little valley located next to THE Valley, quite close to most of Los Angeles. I teach online lessons and local lessons in Ventura and Los Angeles County.

About Me | Teaching Method
As a teacher, I find the most joy in seeing technical improvement translate into artistic freedom and musicality. I also just love sharing my nerdy love for the horn with young musicians!

I tailor lessons and take time to understand each student's pace of learning and playing style. I typically write out customized warm ups for each of my students that highlight aspects of horn playing that promote flexibility and teach music theory. I use etudes in not only a way that promotes technique, but also i

n a way that inspires creativity, giving a student freedom to experiment with musicality and composition. Students are welcome to bring me any ensemble, solo, or audition music they wish to work on.

Lesson Details | Private Horn Lessons
Local Lessons: I will drive to you! The only required equipment is 2 chairs and 1 stand. A piano/keyboard is preferred for music theory and ear training aspects of horn playing but not necessary.

Online Lessons: I use Skype mostly; I can of course use any method of video chat that you prefer.

Bethany is a wonderful instructor! She is consistently caring and insightful, and has appropriately high expectations--which push her students to improve. She was able to help me wisely choose music that would be both challenging and rewarding. I highly recommend her, and I had a great experience taking lessons from her.

"Marie France has an innate ability to quickly assess and apply the most effective teaching method for each of her students. Full of patience and a sweet
nurturing demeanor, Marie France's approach immediately resonated with our daughters. In addition, Marie France teaches from her own curriculum that is relatable with her students. She teaches discipline and inspires her students to improve. We are very fortunate to have Marie France as the girls teacher; she is a gem."

"I worked with Jen for just over a year and I have to say, not only did I learn a lot about music theory and breathing, but I gained such a great mentor an
d friend. I left Pittsburgh when I graduated and Jen is still there willing to answer questions about anything related to singing. In the year that I worked with her I: performed in three studio performances, auditioned and got the part of Mary Sunshine in my college's production of Chicago, and made it to the semi-finals of the Classical Singer's Competition. Without Jen, I wouldn't have been able to do any of that. I am more confident than ever and I'm still singing!"

"Ahmad is incredible!! I could tell from day one he was going to make a huge difference in my guitar playing. His lessons are prepared in advance so very
little time is spent penciling out lesson material. His teaching studio is a very clean and professional, and his super well organized library of teaching materials allows us to maximize our learning time. I love playing his teaching material! None of the guys I took lessons from before had such an effective approach. I have so much fun with it! His lessons have introduced me to various pop, rock, country, metal, and jazz concepts from very popular musicians. He has a unique way of teaching rhythm that has helped me capture phrasing and keep songs in time. Recently I've started taking his harmony classes. These classes have given me the knowledge to confidently play with other musicians and create great music. I would highly recommend Ahmad for anyone that desires to learn more about the guitar. I am moving back to Arizona for work (and sun!). I wish I could take him with me!!"
