About Viva

Degree: Piano Performance, Eastman School of Music.

As a concert pianist, Viva grew up performing and teaching music. Viva graduated from the Eastman School of Music under world-renowned piano pedagogue Nelita True.
Over the years, she has won numerous national piano competitions in the states and Canada and debuted with numerous professional orchestras including Eastman Symphony Orchestra and Parkdale Orchestra. Additionally, she held numerous solo and student recitals recognized by TV stations such WCTV, as well as several newspapers including the Boston Globe, Andover Townsman, and Wil
mington Advocate newspapers.
In addition to performing, Viva's greatest passion is in teaching. Her beginner students grow an average of 2 years worth of study within the first year. Her former piano students' levels ranged from beginner to advanced, and their ages ranged from 4 to 30. Two of her previously held student recitals were recognized by the Boston Globe and as a result of its success, one of which was recorded by WCTV for broadcast. Viva also speak English, Spanish, and Chinese fluently and have taught in these languages.

Theory and Pedagogical Approach:
"My students are not just masters of notes, but also masters of performance. My pedagogical approach centers on developing technique, theory, harmony, aural skills, but also artistry and showmanship. Apart from being taught the structural and aesthetic components of music, my students are taught the art of performance. Each of them is a showman and a stage performer. Two student recitals are held annually, and all friends and family are encouraged to join."

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson focus on developing technique, aural skills and performance. Technique strengthens and develops students' fingers and provides the foundation. Aural skills includes ear training and singing, will develop the students' sense of pitch and tone. Performance will develop students' ability to master new songs and get ready to perform in front of others.
For beginners and intermediate students, I use the Alfred Series, Bastien Series and Thompson Series. For advanced students, heavy repertoire by well-known composers will be assigned.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano, seating for parents, living room

*** Travel Equipment ***
A piano

*** Specialties ***
Levels: Beginner's, intermediate and advanced piano. While the focus is classical, there is also a lot of time for popular, jazz and ragtime. Lessons can be taught in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Michael K.

Saratoga, CA

About Michael

Hi! My name is Mike and I am 26 years old. I have been playing guitar now for about 13 years. I am a national touring guitar player in the band Letters From The Fire. We recently returned from a national tour with Trapt, Pop Evil, Nonpoint etc. I have been on 10 major national tours and have played every state in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska.

I currently teach lesson in the South Bay Area, CA. My focus has been producing and song writing for film and television. I have taken it upon my self, as a product of the local music scene, to give back and help out younger bands get to t
he next level in the way they conduct themselves as musicians and in their songwriting.

I am also working with Ben Moody (ex. Evanescence) on score pieces for several movies. Music is my life and its everything I do.

I can't wait to get to know you, Lets rock out!

*** Lesson Details ***
As a self taught musician, I know it is important to take away all of the smoke and mirrors of the instrument. It is not impossible and you can, with practice and dedication, be a great musician. I also find it necessary to make lessons fun and entertaining. Though technique is important, it is important that you enjoy playing and practicing.

I am a very laid back teacher as long as you are doing your job :) My teaching style does cater to different skill levels as well as the material you would like to learn.

I hope to make this a fun and stress free environment for anyone. You can not learn an instrument if you are afraid of your teacher and your instrument.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pro Tools 10 HD Native w/ Avid Omni interface.
Axe Fx 2 Guitar Processor and 2 Bogner Uberschall Half Stacks.
Line 6 Mini Combo
2 Esp Eclipse
1 Gibson Les Paul Studio
1 Warwick Bass
Roland V-Drum TD-20

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a guitar if need be. I ,however, would prefer students to have a guitar, tuner, and some kind of amp. (amp not necessary)
If teaching music recording, I would like the student to have a computer, DAW, and interface.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in hard rock/metal guitar but can also teach Pop. I am knowledgeable in pro tools/musical recording as well. I also can teach music writing and music performance. As a touring musician who has toured with multi-platinum bands Fuel, 12 Stones, and The Letter Black, I pride myself on my knowledge in the industry that I can share with you.

Excellent teacher

My 7 year old has been taking guitar lessons from Mike for the past 4 months. It has been an amazingly positive experience for my kid. He has learnt a great deal in such a short time all thanks to Mike's exceptional professionalism, patience and encouragement. He is very observant and is able to spot the problem areas right away, as a result, my kid is learning the right techniques from the get-go. He has the unique ability to tailor the lessons for the student and make the class very enjoyable. My kid looks forward to his lessons every week and doesn't want to stop at the end of the class :-) He is a very motivating teacher and sets high standards and my kid is eager to practice at home, so he can impress Mike at the next class!!
Our experience with Mike has been nothing short of terrific and I would recommend him highly.

Sam is wonderful drum instructor. He is very friendly and my teen son feels very comfortable around him. They worked for several months on drums and Sam even took time to listen to my son's DJ music production. Sam gave him his opinion and suggestions for improvements. We are very happy with how fast my son began to play drums only after the start of a few lessons. We highly recommend him!!!

Sam has taught our 10 year old son for over a year now. The best thing about Sam is his ability to make learning fun and also teach and keep our son engaged. He lets my son choose the songs he wants to learn and brings in piano and guitar as my son explores music each week. Sam is extremely professional, punctual and true positive role model to my son and we look forward to his visit each week. We truly found a gem when we found Sam and look forward to a long musical voyage with him and my son.

Sam is terrific teacher. He's been working with our 8-year-old boy for just a short time, but in that time, our son has made amazing progress. Sam's lessons are well-structured, but he lets our son choose the songs he wants to learn. He also makes each lesson fun and is good at adapting if our son finds something easier or more challenging than expected. Sam is also really nice to work with-- professional, punctual, and courteous. We all highly recommend him.

My 10 year old daughter has been taking guitar lessons from Melody for over a year. In the beginning, my daughter had no knowledge of how to play a guitar nor was she familiar with notes or chords. Today she is able to read and play songs ranging from The Beatles to Taylor Swift (one of her favorites). I look forward to more lessons from Melody where my daughter will be able to learn more skills in playing the guitar.
