About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

*** Lesson Details ***
First, I need to talk to my students about their goals. Not only for the adult, teacher also need to know what kids want to know about music. They are interested in it sometimes, they just don't know. Second, I will let them know, interests is just the first step. If you want to learn, you have to pay! Pay your patient, and your endeavor. I will teach in some specific ways to motive students to approach the goals. for example: listen, singing, playing, reading is the process to make the students catch the goal faster without lost their interests! So involve more activities in the lessons is very important! Also, serious technique practice is necessary. As I mentioned before, not only interests, if you want to learn , you have to pay. Once you catch your goal, you will feel happy that the teacher has been pushed you for some boring finger exercise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I do have a grand piano at home. For violin students, they should have their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki style, classical, contemporary, modern music

Kan seemed very qualified and the first lesson or so went well with the exception of hearing her child cry on and off throughout the lesson and make an appearance on camera as well. We tried to be understanding. Unfortunately we learned she has quite a temper. Our Internet went down and caused problems in our Skype connection. We tried to contact her and Skype said she was unavailable. It took some time to unravel it. When we finally got back in touch with Kan 16 minutes after the lesson started, instead of listening and understanding that we had technical problems, she yelled at us and kept brandishing her phone at the camera to "prove" that she was ready for the lesson. She barely let us get a word in. She very firmly told us we would be paying for the lesson and continued to hold her phone up to the camera. We wanted to just continue the lesson in it's shortened form, but she refused to put her phone down and kept talking over us. Our goal was to remedy the situation; after this, we wanted nothing further to do with Kan. She upset our daughter and that's the end of that. Be warned.

My 12 year old son was hesitant to have Latin lessons based on the experience he had in a classroom setting. He just had his first lesson and immediately told me afterward, "I learned more from Jonathan than I did all year in class." He seemed to really connect with Jonathan and is actually looking forward to his next lesson.

After searching in vain for a latin tutor for our son in our neighborhood, we reluctantly turned our search to the internet. We're so glad we did. Jonathan is an excellent latin teacher! He evaluated our son's current ability level in latin and has guided him in lessons designed to address his weak areas. Our son is a good student and will work hard when challenged, but he also needs structure and guidance from his teacher. Jonathan provided both and has inspired him to pursue latin with enthusiasm. We are very grateful to have found such a wonderful tutor, and we would highly recommend Jonathan Hills to any student serious about improving his/her latin skills.

Eric is a great teacher of Spanish. He is very professional and methodological in his classes. He uses a lot of different study materials, including online apps that are geared to the topic he is covering. He can switch gears and help in preparing our high school son for his school tests. Eric is very accommodating if it's necessary to move a lesson. Highly recommended!

I have used Eric for about 5 years now, and he took me from speaking basic Spanish to exceeding more courses definition of Advanced quickly. His teaching background and patience make him an ideal teacher, and he is able to find material that pushes you to the next level well. Now my South American wife has to be polite about me when she speaks to her family about me!

I would highly recommend Eric as a tutor for any level of Spanish.
