Gregory grew up in Pearl, MS and served as a percussionist with the Pearl High School Band, graduating in 1988. While at Pearl, Greg earned a position in the Mississippi Lion's All State Band. Following high school, he attended United States Marine Corps Basic Training at Parris Island, SC, graduating in May 1989. Following basic training, Greg graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek, VA. Upon graduation, he earned a position in the United States Marine Corps Field Bands, serving with the Marine Band in Okinawa, Japan and Parris Island, SC. In 1993, after a live audition, he placed as a finalist for the prestigious Commandant's Own, United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps located in Washington, D.C. Upon discharge, Greg became the percussion instructor at Pearl High School while serving with the 41st Army National Guard Band in Mississippi. After one year, Greg enlisted with the 101st Airborne Band at Fort Campbell, KY in the United States Army, while returning to active duty. He later served in the 98th Army Band at Fort Rucker, Alabama. During his military time, he was invited for live auditions and achieved honors as a finalist for positions with the Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps in Washington, D.C. as well as  the “Hellcat's” Drum and Bugle Corps at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Greg's military career has taken him all over the world.  He has had the distinction of performing for 3 U.S. Presidents, as well as several foreign dignitaries to include the Queen of England and the President of France while performing for D-Day ceremonies in Europe. Additionally, he has played in support of several recording artists. 
	
	Greg began his formal education while serving in the military, taking college courses along the way. Upon his discharge from the military, he has completed his bachelors and Masters of Music. He works percussion camps, provides private  lessons, and teaches as a full-time band director and percussion instructor for Quitman Public Schools in MS. Additionally, he is sought after as a judge, clinician and to assist with indoor percussion groups at the collegiate and high school levels. He enjoys performing with local orchestras and churches.

I have been teaching and performing percussion professionally for 30 years. I have had the privilege and honor of performing as a military musician while traveling around the world  Many of my students have gone on to pursue college degrees in music education and have become educators themselves. Learning percussion should be a joyful experience and one that will be a positive change in your life. I have taught percussion at the college and high school levels. I specialize in rudimental and concert snare drum, mallet keyboards, drum set and timpani. Whether you are auditioning for a college scholarship, a high school all-state band position, or simply trying to sharpen your skills....I'm your teacher. I frequently sit on judging panels to determine all-state members for percussion. I currently teach at a high school and junior high where I start beginning percussionist on snare drum and mallets. At the high school level, I help create championship drum lines, indoor percussion lines, and great overall percussionists. Contact me and lets starting making a plan to get you to the next level.

We continue to demonstrate various ways to count rudimentary rhythms as used in all facets of drumming. 

Beginner Rhythms II for Percussion

I have made a video that concentrates on the fundamentals of counting and playing basic rudimental rhythms. These rhythms may transfer over to any percussion instrument. Additionally, the rhythms that are played and counted in this video can be a benefit to any beginning musician.

Traditional Rudimental Drumming

In this class, you will learn the differences between the different types of drum strokes within rudimental snare drumming. You will learn the definition and differences between a legato stroke, staccato stroke, and an upstroke. You will also how these strokes affect the way the music that you are playing is perceived.
