Hi there! My name is Beth and I'm a private music lessons instructor. I specialize in customized, encouraging, and engaging instruction for each student, specific to their unique interests, experience level and goals. My teaching experience started primarily with teaching in-person lessons, however, in late 2019 I expanded to online lessons and have since had the privilege of teaching students all across the USA: California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, just to name a few. Teaching online has proven to be a very flexible, convenient, and effectual method of teaching and I’m excited to expand my online roster. 

In May 2011, I graduated from Texas Woman's University with my Bachelor's Degree in Music and a minor in Business Management. Music has been my passion since before I started taking piano lessons in third grade, and there was always an innate desire to master the keys. At age fifteen, I taught myself how to play guitar and started writing and performing original songs. In 2013, I became a published songwriter when my songs were produced on my church's Christmas Album ("Who Is This King?").

I have been teaching private piano lessons part-time from my home in 2011, and just a few years later transitioned into full-time teaching in January 2017. Throughout my teaching career, I have instructed over 250 students one-on-one and it is a dream come true to be able to invest all my time and energy into the precious gifts of my students. Teaching is my greatest passion, whether it's of the classical genre, musical theatre, theory mastery, or equipping a student to use their gifts in worship.

The MTNA was founded in 1876 with the goal of advancing the value of music study and music-making to society while supporting the careers and professionalism of teachers of music. With nearly 22,000 members in 50 states—and more than 500 local affiliates—the MTNA is the preeminent source for music teacher support, where members embody like-minded values and commitment to their students, colleagues and society as a whole, while reaping the rewards of collaboration, continuity and connection throughout the lifetime of their careers.

Our primary function is to establish definite goals and awards--in noncompetitive auditions--for students of all levels, from the earliest beginner to the gifted prodigy. 

Served on the worship team and in the choir at my last church for several years in a volunteer capacity. I was blessed to be able to direct the choir on several occasions, including Christmas and Easter programs. I was also able to lead and coordinate worship teams for women's monthly services, as well as share some of my original music with the congregation.

Over the years, I've been honored to share my musical gifts with friends and family for their special day. I've played guitar and sung, sung with tracks, or played piano / sung for the event, along with playing the piano background music for parties and events over the years.

Music Theory is the study of the systems in music, typically examining the structure and patterns underneath all music, regardless of genre. These lessons include an assessment of the student's musical theory knowledge, including writing scales/chords/intervals, rhythmic study, writing figured bass, various music terminology, etc. 

These lessons are most valuable for the seasoned musicians (especially those that perform regularly), and those who are looking to go to the next level in their musicianship (i.e. starting university studies, wanting to explore a new musical genre, wanting to compose music, etc.), however a basic understanding of music theory is a necessity even from the very beginning of one's studies in any musical instrument. 

Music theory is such valuable knowledge to have and can greatly expand a musician’s horizons and confidence. I enjoy helping my students connect the dots and understand the system that governs music! I incorporate a variety of books and other elements for lessons in Music Theory, and customize all lessons to my student's goals, experience level and interests.

Beth has been a patient instructor for my son. She is willing to learn new songs that interest my son, so she can teach him how to play it on the acoustic or electric guitar. She has helped him grow as a musician.

Beth is very nurturing. Her positive personality and encouragement builds confidence. My daughter enjoys her lessons immensely.

Finding Beth has been the highlight of our time during Covid-19. We were preparing to start in person piano lessons when Covid-19 started and quarantine stopped that plan. After searching the web high and low I stumbled across TakeLessons and particularly found Beth. She has been teaching my daughter voice and piano lessons for 6 weeks now and I cannot speak highly enough of her!! My daughter has not only learned so much from her about piano technique as well as how to use her voice as a beautiful instrument, but Beth is also such a positive light and gives my daughter tons of self confidence. Her positive attitude and upbeat teaching style are electric. I would recommend Beth to anyone, old or young, beginner or experienced.
